Summary: Good but not a Bible
Review: This is a good book about how people get power yet without revealing the harm it causes. It is one of those books we like to pretend is not the way things really are. However, it also makes lying, manipulation, exploitation, etc... seem positive and necessary. I don't agree with this.

I think the book should be required reading in schools not so people can copy it but so, like alchoholics needing to acknowledge they have a problem, that our society has a chance to move beyond it.

Summary: An Amazing Book
Review: I have never read this book and after not ever reading it I would ask others not to read it as a favor to me. I know you do not know me but I am a very nice person and ... well you may or not get the picture. In fact the less folks read this book the better off I will be! This is the kind of book that you wish you were the only one who knew about. It is a handbook on Power not only does it discuss the "48 Laws" but provides clear examples on how you can use them. Richard on the TV show Surviors , read this book the other folks on the Island did not .

Summary: Decadent & Naughty
Review: I bought this book out of curiosity, and on the recommendation of a friend who said that I had too much integrity to do what I do for a living. The first time I read it, I thought it was a good, juicy read, but it seemed difficult to put these rules to good use without acutally raising an army, invading other countries, or beheading and poisoning opponents.

The second time I read the book, I realized how wrong I was. Maybe I can't poison a coworker or an opponent as a way to get ahead, but I can definitely learn how to control and manipulate my behavior to get what I want out of other people, and out of any situation. People tend to think that if they just work hard and play nice, rewards will be heaped upon them. Not so. You have to be an active participant in your success, not just a passive passenger along for the ride. That's the basic premise of the book and it's a good one. Even if there's too much Machiavelli here (which there is, but that's the point), most of these rules are adaptable to real life. The fact is, most people already play by them, so isn't it better to at know what you're dealing with?

I'll be reading this one a few more times. If not, my integrity is all my children will be left with when I die. That's not much to take to the bank.

Summary: Next to Nietzsche --- the Best!
Review: I have just spent all summer reading and digesting this book and am eagerly awaiting Greene's October release, "The Art of Seduction."

Nietzsche once wrote, "Anything truly productive is offensive," Offensive was my first reaction to "The 48 Laws of Power." But after careful reading I am convinced this is the best book on practical psychology ever written. Pay no attention to the reviewers who say the laws contradict each other. They don't. They rather compliment each other in the game of life. Read this book with a spirit of adventure (and with some humor as well) and you will find the experience richly rewarding. I wish I had had this guide years ago.

Review: Great book. Easy to remember examples. Read it repeatedly to allow the rules to become second nature.

Summary: Sounds Evil but can be insitefull to human nature
Review: I got this book because I am a coporate weenie and I wanted to keep advancing. Well At first I thought this book was evil as it seemed to say things I fundamentally think are morally wrong, as I read more of this book I came to realize that It is helpful to keep some of these insights in mind when dealing with people.

Summary: Instructive, but too machiavellian
Review: I have occasionally given this book as a gift, but always with some reluctance. I have given it to colleagues in the hope that it will help illuminate the byzantine politics of certain large organizations, some of whose leaders have evidently taken some of the book's precepts to heart (which is the only satisfying explanation that I can find for why anyone follows certain leaders). I am somewhat reluctant, however, because while this book contains some instructive advice, it is far too machiavellian for my taste and spends far too much energy extolling the pursuit of power for power's own sake rather than for the sake of the good that power can accomplish. Nevertheless, forewarned is forearmed, and I have enjoyed recognizing in its cautionary tales some familiar and otherwise inexplicable patterns that I have observed in my own experience.

Summary: Wow, this is one of the best books I have read
Review: Wow, after Nietzsche this is my second favorite writer, this is the best book I have read after Nietzsche, wow, this author not only explains power, but he stimulates you with energy and strength to get more power. This book is a must for everyone who wants to gain strength and power in every face of life

Summary: Like a Naked Blade
Review: A trusting friend recommended it to me (how trusting I only learned after reading the book). I read it. The first reading took 4 days, the I put it aside. The second reading took about 4 weeks, put it aside again. Just finished reading it again, took about half a year. Out of dozens of dear friends, was able to tell only two about the book. The 48 Laws is like a bare gleaming pig-sticker of a blade which you can't just whip out for display in polite company. It is deadly effective stuff, and you may not want it known that you know.
