Summary: An awesome book, but how do you get "there"?
Review: I loved this book but soon found that I was 99% inspired and left with little understanding of how to get to this present moment that the author has so vividly described. There are a couple of books that I've come across that have been really helpful in teaching this monkey mind of mine to let go, and dissolve into the present moment. First, and my personal favorite for its direct usability and applicability to an everyday persons life: Present Moment Awareness by Shannon Duncan. On every page I felt like it was me being described. I met this author at a workshop and was really impressed. I don't know how to describe someone who feels so "there," so rock solid, except that it felt similar to when I saw Eckhart Tolle speak.

Next I would recommend: Wherever You Go There You Are Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life, by Jon Kabat-Zinn. This is another one that is very practical and immediately usable. A great classic on mindful meditation.

Last I would recommend: There is Only Now by Scott Morrison. This book, like the Power of Now, can be a bit "floaty" in that it is great inspiration but less directly applicable. Inspiration is awesome and most likely necessary, but so is working on what is real for us right now in this moment. All of these books have been excellent in my experience in helping me (aka my mind) to open and relax into the eternal now.

Summary: Changed my LIFE! So AMAZING!
Review: My sister handed me a box of tapes called the Power of Now by some guy whose name I couldn't pronounce... I thought, Oh, yeah, another self help guru... but as I drove home, I popped in a tape and immediately connected to his words... took me a little while to get used to his accent, but once I did, his voice soothed me... I am familiar with the concepts he speaks of, as I was raised Catholic, then as a teen learned TM, then the Berkeley Psychic Institute, which led me into bodywork, healing, physical therapy... then Course In Miracles spoke to me... and the Power of Now incorporates all these and more... so it speaks to all of us, it doesn't exclude anyone and it's refreshing how Eckhart Tolle (TOLE-ay) doesn't draw attention to himself, but rather his message. PON has helped me stay centered and elevated during difficult moments and I'm very grateful for this work... I've given several friends these tapes, some are mildly affected, while others are transformed! I, for one, have been changed for the better... enjoy! breathe! Love! This is IT! Kerrie

Summary: great book but whats up with these reviews??
Review: This is a great book, if you are at all interested, then definitely check it out.

What I don't get is what is up with all these people writing their about their own beliefs in these reviews. They write paragraphs and paragraphs about their own philosphies. Just state what you liked or didn't like about the book you are supposed to be reviewing and leave it at that, please. Nobody cares what you believe or don't believe. If you need people to "hear" you that badly, then get a therapist or write your own book. I look for reviews about the books here, not the readers own philosophies.

Summary: A practical book in allowing one to achieve their goals
Review: recent Ph.D. engineering graduate

The "Power of Now" book enables a person to free themselves of their mind, which is the sole cause of worry, doubt, fear, discouragement, anger, anxiety, ups and downs, as well as all other mind based causes. I use it continuously to produce desired effects that allows me to continuously GROW. Time and mind are synomonous as the book states because the mind acts now on possible future negative conditions as they are real and completely upsets your actions in manifesting desired goals. Additionally, it puts off future events that should be done NOW. It does this so that it can remain "comfortable" and maintain its current state. As the book states, all a person ever has is now and by accessing the power of being which is present in each and everyone of us, the way will be shown to solve a problem or manifest a desired goal and the necessary changes in our environment will be made by the being. All of this will occur according to Universal Law. By the person acting on the "intuition" that it receives from the being (i.e. the way to go) along with the changes that occur in one's environment, a union will occur at which time the problem will
be solved and/or the desire (the being seeking expression) manifested.
By repeatedly using the technique of focusing on the now consciously whenever a problem or desire is realized,
the unconscious will connect to the being on a continual basis. Basically, it becomes a habit. Hence the removal of all mind based causes.
By simply reading the book, one will develop an inner peace, which can only be achieved through the being. Additionally, if one performs work in other "realms" or "planes of existence" this work will help immensely as demonstrated in my own practice. In addition to the "Power of Now" I personally
recommend the following books to call upon the "being"
or "universal life energy" to assist one in realizing one's dreams. Before I proceed, a word of caution must be used. If anyone is doing work with other systems which would
include but not limited to the occult, mysticism, and witchcraft, I would abandon these systems for a period of time before attempting the following works, if one felt that these books is the way to go. The reason is that by "mixing"
systems one will create cross currents which will create no end of problems in attempting to manifest their desires. I personally, would work solely with the works below (each one separately), assimilate them, perform the exercises "achieve the positive results", and thoroughly think through what I have learned and experienced. I would then integrate them into
my being before returning to the system I was originally performing. One needs to develop their own eclectic system, which is comprised of many systems along with their own personal discoveries, to develop their own personal system that a person will be using on a permanent basis. Needless to say, this process takes much work and time.

From Health Research Books in Pomeroy, WA which can be found on the Web by typing in "Health Research Books" in a search engine, I recommend the following:

The Science of Being Set for $58.50 as well Hilton Hotema's works on

Ancient Secret of Personal Power: Tetragrammaton ($11.30), The Magic Wand ($11.30), and Man's Higher Consciousness ($23.60).

Fersen's Works allows one to contact Universal Life Energy to assist one in solving financial and health problems as well as allow one to develop their own latent powers.

Hotema's works allow one to access their spiritual centers to solve practically any health problem.

From Robert Collier Publications in Oak Harbor, WA which can be found on the web by typing Robert Collier Publications in a search engine or a bookseller, I recommend:

"The Secret of the Ages" and "Riches within your Reach (The Law of the Higher Potential)". These two books allow one to develop their own latent powers as well as better understand the full meaning of past experiences and solutions in overcoming present hurdles.

Finally, if these books are out of stock, I have had good luck purchasing used books at the Abebooks web site.

Summary: Tolle tells us how our minds really work
Review: We need to discover how our emotions work, not just how our minds work -- and that is Tolle's point. In his book, Tolle says many times "we are not our minds." That is so true, and it's even more true for people who have been studying how "thoughts create reality." It's easy to turn into a thought cop, scrutinizing every thought for its negative or positive properties. Tolle's book puts us back on track, toward a more wholistic way of living that includes more than the mind -- and what a relief that is. Summary: The Power Of Now
Review: I thought that The Power of Now was a great eye opener. The thought that "Now" is what matters struck a nerve of enlightenment. By explaining that "Now" is what matters, that the past and future are sources of emotional baggage rang true to me. "Thinking" too much instead of "being" was also powerful. I think I got a lot out of Mr. Tolle's book. I do find it a hard concept to understand at one reading, but that it is worth reading and working on. I understand when he explains accepting "Now", surrendering to it, brings serenity, joy. He further explains how accepting "Now" is not the same as letting something just happen to you. Lets say something tragic is happening to you. By accepting the situation you will know how to react and do what has to be done in that particular situation. My whole outlook has taken on a different perspective of how I think and why. His format, questions and answers, was excellent. It did make me feel as though I had walked in on a lecture that was half over though-as if I missed something. But in whole, his book was very helpful. I feel The Power of Now is a great companion book to other spiritual books because it did leave me with a bit of needing more. Another book, Ask and You Shall Receive, by Mary Anne Thomas is another spiritual book that works for me. Her book teaches how to pray, how working with words, discovering their true meaning and finding the words that "touch" you are important and powerful. Her book gives wonderful exercises on how to ask for what you want and why, and how to pray. She also explains that knowing how to receive is just as important as knowing how to ask for it. Finding happiness in your life does come from this understanding. I think that The Power of Now and Ask and You Shall Receive have helped me towards understanding this goal.

Summary: What a great book!
Review: This book is one of the best on enlightenment I have ever read! It not only explains the state of enlightenment and the process involved, but also explains how we can approach this state. This book is easy to understand and a pleasure to read. As Toru Sato convincingly shows us in his book, "The Ever-Transcending Spirit" it is impossible to reach a state of enlightenment while we are "trying" to become enlightened. However this book still eloquently shows us that living in the moment is the essence of enlightenment and what that really means. If you are ready for this next step, the ideas in this book will resonate in your heart. If you are interested in enlightenment, definitely read these books!

Summary: The message is not new.
Review: It's another spiritual book. It points to what all spiritual teachings point to - your True-Self. There is nothing new in the message that Mr. Tolle gives to us. It is in the way the message is delivered that Mr. Tolle serves us best. He provides us with insight using language that is clear, concise, and current. No zen koans, but simple tools that can be applied in the course of your everyday life.

Summary: NOW is all we have
Review: Eckhart Tolle makes an essential point loud and clear -- all we have is NOW and we will never have anything other than the present moment. Yes I agree. Then he says "BE in the NOW." This is where the book falls short. BE lazy, Be mediocre, Be silent or ....? So I recommend Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self by Rosalene Glickman as well, because it truly shows you how to BE YOUR BEST in the present moment, make the MOST of any situation, and enjoy the best life has to offer.

Summary: A spiritual awakening in the light of truth...
Review: I listened to the audio CDs of this book and it has changed my "life." Tolle's message is incredible, revolutionary, yet seemingly something I already knew (but just didn't realize it). His words are the truest I have ever heard and the book has completely given me new perspective and brought me in touch with who I am really. It has also helped me to make sense of a multitude of spiritual encounters and life experiences that I could never before understand, ones that certainly no conventional religious organization or church congregation ever spoke to. I am humbly practicing living in the power of the now and am amazed at the peace and serenity - and joy of living - that I feel when I remain present. I recommend this book to anyone looking for an end to suffering, and end to pain (i.e. - everyone).
