Summary: THE END OF SEEKING
Review: 99% of our thoughts are compulsive, useless and dangerous. This "mental noise" creates all of our suffering. Time, which is only a construct of the mind, is made by continually thinking thoughts of the past and of the future. Regrets, over things you didn't do; shame, over what you did do; anger and resentment, over what was "done to you," and memories of brief, happy moments. THESE ARE YOUR COMPULSIVE THOUGHTS OF THE PAST. Fear and anxiety of things that "might" happen, hoping (and praying) for a better future, waiting for tomorrow, or even the next hour to be better than it is right now, planning, to keep control of your future. THESE ARE YOUR COMPULSIVE THOUGHTS OF THE FUTURE. Past Thoughts + Future Thoughts = Time TIME is this world of thought played out in form, with all of it's pain, suffering, and brief moments of pleasure, leading inexorably to death. NOW is the collapse of time into eternity. Your natural state of joy and peace.

To enter this eternal state, you collapse time by practices which lead to the end of compulsive, thinking. How powerful is the mind, to create this world of insanity. How simple the solution, should we choose it. It had to be simple and it is. There is no need to look further than this book and the practices within it. Salvation is here, salvation is NOW.

Summary: Tolle overreaches yet still delivers
Review: An excellent book about the benefits of being present and living in the moment. Also an excellent review of strategies and techniques for developing presence. My only problem with the book is that Tolle equates immortality with eternality. He suggests that the experience of timelessness proves that one's being lives forever. He claims to know that his being will survive the death of his brain and physical body. I agree with him that his being is immortal, in the sense that it will never experience "I am not" and that it always experiences "I am," but I don't agree that it survives beyond the physical death. To me that's just wishful thinking. Tolle also suggests that reincarnation is a fact, that nothing real ever dies or changes and that all things are conscious or are in consciousness. Again I simply disagree and haven't seen any evidence to convince me otherwise. I believe that consciousness is a byproduct of the brain and nervous system, that matter exists whether we are conscious of it or not, and that reality is a process that is constantly changing. In the end I guess it doesn't really matter who is right. The bottom line is that learning to be present and living in the moment has many advantages and benefits and Tolle's book will definitely help you get there.

Summary: This book is phenomenal!
Review: I picked up this book while browsing. I could tell from the reviews mentioned in the introduction that this was no ordinary book. Eckhart Tolle teaches from a truly enlightened perspective, which turns concepts into experience for the reader. I have not found any other book which matches this one in power or clarity. Echoing many previous reviewers, I've given away 4 copies, am reading it for the 3rd time, and feel 5 stars are not enough to do it justice. I would urge anyone open to spiritual enlightenment to read this book!

Summary: A Life Altering Read
Review: I haven't stopped talking about this book since I read it last month. It is one that has changed my way of thinking, literally the way I want to live my life. It makes so much sense and I am grateful that Mr. Tolle was able to present the concept of living in the moment in a way that wasn't cliche or complicated. This book is a must for anyone who frequently feels rushed, stressed, angry or otherwise not at peace, probably most of us! It will help you get back on track and remember what is important in this life, THIS MOMENT!

Review: A tremendous read for those of us who are asleep at the wheel of life.

Summary: Transcendence
Review: I'm convinced this is the best book on Spiritual Englightenment ever written. It is simple, clear, direct and easy to read. Given the subject, that is a major feat in itself. Written in the form of a dialogue, it's more like a conversation than a textbook. If every human being could learn to be "present" in the way that Tolle suggests, all the problems that plague the human race would be ended. This book can unlock the riddles of the universe. Wow!

Summary: The YOU is waiting for the past/future you to be quiet.
Review: I used to think long Amazon reviews were a little obnoxious. I have a feeling I'm about to ramble on about my how I have been changed.

You never know when a book can change your life but when one *does* knock you on your rear, the doubter inside you creates "noise" about how this is just another book, and you've tried to change your thinking for a long time and why would this be it? But you know it's possible for an actual person to walk into your life and change a key distinction more than anyone else has before. Well, Eckhard Tolle will change your complete psychology, because he will take away the need for it.

You have a constantly accumulating "partyline" of voices that have come from events and things others have said to you or about you in the past. These voices want *you* to be their puppet - they want you to distract you at every possibly moment. They want you to be constantly judging and worrying and figuring out things that happen in your life while you're living each moment, so that you're NEVER PRESENT !

These voices aren't ONLY from the past. They are from the collective race-consciousness of other people on this planet. There is a "Watcher", there is a YOU, that is watching the "you" that was born on this Earth. If you stop your thoughts and literally stop evaluating each possible moment that went by and just stay with the THIS MOMENT, you will connect with the YOU. It is so powerful. (thus the title)

The way in which I looked at my life, and myself, and how to live, and what to think about this life on Earth ( and after this existence) can represent a building. Just picture that building in the middle of an empty parking lot. The words in this book are a Tomahawk missile that has now destroyed this building in a loud fiery explosion. I now look at each moment separately.

I don't give a rat's you-know-what, for example, as to what that person who has just walked by me at work is thinking, with a frown on their face. Because I am now three seconds in the future, walking into my cubicle, aware of the PRESENT and aware of the PRESENCE that will be with me even after this life. I'm *not* in my cubicle wondering why some people bother working jobs they don't like, or why some people are married to people they don't like so they have to dwell on it when they come to work the next morning and spread around the unhappiness. And these are just my inane guesses, which probably aren't true, and the frowns I thought were frowns probably are preoccupied looks, but the destructive voices are telling me they are looks of disapproval directed at me. You have control. So don't act like you don't.

Why do you get stressed and get all raged out on the freeway, when someone driving behind you is three inches away from your fender, in their SUV, talking into their cell phone? Because you're letting the PAST drive your thoughts. What if you just take this as a brand new experience and forget about how much you disliked the person *yesterday* who was on a cell phone, swerving in front of you to make the entrance to the restaurant in time? If you lived in the present, you don't JUDGE.

If you live in the present, you're stealing the ammo of your earthbound personality from being able to prop up reasons why your blood pressure should skyrocket and be enraged. You're not judging. You're just simply acknowledging that people do what people do. You don't need to forgive that un-conscious person driving unsafely, because it's a neutral event, not bad or good. You just simply take action to remove yourself from the situation. Because NOW is *all* there ever is. (but don't try to fight those feelings of rage - they LOVE a good fight, they love attention.. just let them run their course - but just don't feed them with thoughts of past or future!)

I like how Tolle resolves questions about trying to reach your future goals, but living in the NOW

at the same time. 90% of the book is in a question and answer format, and he makes sure to cover every question you would have about what he is stating. Because you're here reading these reviews means you're ready to take your life to a new level.

My religious beliefs have changed a lot from being a Christian ( believing in Judgement and Damnation and original sin) in the past year (not from this book, just in general), to being strictly spiritual. But I'm not saying this book won't help you if you happen to be Fundamentalist. This book is for everyone. But be open-minded and let the truth touch you. If this book were to be read by the leaders of the major nations, there would be Peace on Earth.

Remember, you are it *all* right now, you don't need anything else.

Summary: It changed my life...
Review: It is my sincere opinion that this is the greatest book ever. Just after a few pages I knew what I was reading was the truth that I've been searching all my life. And it was always inside me... I have never felt so peaceful; it is as if I came home for the very first time. As I am reading this book I feel like I am reading my own "words" (words that were locked in a chest for a long time, until Eckhart Tolle gave me the key). Thanks Eckhart.
