Rating: Summary: You go deeper with each reading Review: Attracted by exciting reviews, I bought and read the book. I was so impressed that I bought the tapes. I have been listening to them over and over again every morning for several months. Rather than repeat the wonderful comments of previous reviews, I would like to add a few personal insights. Eckhart's message is very condensed. He compresses a tremendous amount of meaning into a very few simple words. This makes the book very good value for money. You would have to buy and read several similar books by other authors to derive the same quantity of information - but they would probably not match Eckhart's high quality of delivery. Eckhart's messages are deep. A typical sentence has two or three levels of depth that reveal themselves after a number of readings on the conscious level. (On the sub-conscious level you would probably appreciate the deeper meaning immediately). Reflection, and day to day experiences should take you to the deeper levels. However, do not be satisfied with whatever level you have reached. Deeper levels exist. Continue reflecting and seeing day to day events with the new wisdom you have acquired. This will take you deeper still. While you may not agree with all of Eckhart's teachings, you will admit that most of them make sense at a very deep level. After reading this book and listening to the tapes, you will be well on your way to higher levels of consciousness. Buying this book should not be the main consideration, since it is clearly essential reading for everyone. For me the main consideration is how deep do you want to go? I would urge more than one reading. I think you will be pleasantly surprised as each successive reading takes you to new levels of awareness and serenity.
Rating: Summary: Now I know why NOW is so talked about in Spiritual texts Review: I have been reading many spiritual books. Most of the books talk about the importance of staying present with the moment, that is, NOW. I don't think I still understand why that seems to be the essence of the path to the truth but this book has given me the best possible explanation thus far. I would recommend this very highly to anyone on the path towards God/Truth/Enlightenment.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Book Review: Although I had studied elements of what Eckhart Tolle writes for many years and made tremendous gains from doing so, I have never seen the information so simply and beautifully communicated before. I prefer straightforward useful information to parables or obscure references. This book puts complex ideas in a form so simple that reading the book is effortless and pleasurable and yet extremely powerful. I felt changes occuring just by reading the information and that was only the beginning. Applying it on a regular basis provides ongoing, neverending improvement. Even for readers with lots of earlier experience with these concepts, there will be something new and better. As a certified trauma counselor, I've used these ideas extensively, even to the point of writing a book called "Your Mind and Body are a Corporation and You are the CEO" filled with ways to help "become the watcher" where mind and body are concerned. In spite of all that experience with these concepts, I still found great benefit from what this book contains. Thanks so much for the wonderful book, Mr. Tolle.
Rating: Summary: Being HERE NOW is vital! Review: You know how you can look at some people and in their eyes you see they're just "not home"? Well, this helps you get home and stay that way! I know I'll wear this tape series out. And I've recommended it to everyone I know. GET IT if you're ready for it... or even think you're ready for it. And if you've come so far as to read this, you're ready!
Rating: Summary: Believe This! Review: Eckhart Tolle opens his book with; "You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold. That is how important you are." When we accept that fact, what more do we need to get our own lives in order? Eckhart tells us how. I have added his teachings to my personally exclusive list of real and authentic teachers of Truth. One is the late Vernon Howard. Another is A Course in Miracles. Only One Truth is real and constant and until we learn to understand that absolute fact, we have no choice but to continue living with our own ignorance, fakery and self-imposed idiocy. I intend to keep trying until I get it right. Eckhart's words bring me closer to that.
Rating: Summary: THE POWER OF NOW CONTAINS THE POWER TO CHANGE YOUR FUTURE Review: Five stars is simply not enough - "The Power of Now" is a 10+! Having tried to live my life upon a foundation rooted in Buddhist philosophies and the Four Noble Truths - suffering, origin of suffering, cessation of suffering and the path to the cessation of suffering, I found this book to be based on those same principles. Many people believe our thoughts and feelings are all that we are, but in truth we are much greater; our life is far more complex. With words of inspiration and wisdom, Tolle shows us the path, the truth, the beauty and the light within us. For those seeking the path to enlightenment, "The Power of Now" is an eloqently written, soul-searching masterpiece. If you are searching for a spiritual healing, or more peace and tranquility within yourself and your life, in addition to this book, I also recommend, "The Art of Happiness" by the Dalai Lama and "Awakening the Buddha Within" by Lama Surya Das. In all these books, you will find inspiration, and powerful truths to a more peaceful, rich and fulfilling life
Rating: Summary: The time is indeed Now Review: Eckhart Tolle has conveyed, in his own words, the Presence of Being, which some people refer to as 'Cosmic Consciousness'. This term was first coined by Dr R. M. Bucke 100 years ago and became the title of his own extraordinary study of the potential of Consciousness that we, Homo-Sapiens-Sapiens, have. The study points conclusively to the fact that we need look no further then "within ourselves". And, indeed, the time has always been NOW! The 80, or so, previous reviews provide ample evidence of the wisdom, the 'Presence', in Eckhart's words. Instead of trying to say the same thing over again, but differently, I wish to provide a response to the question on page 105 re: the topic of "Slowing down the aging Process". There the questioner asks, "Is there any scientific evidence for this?" I have personally seen that there is. There are a number for studies prepared on the amazing longevity of the peoples of the Caucasus Mountains. Within that culture there is a practice they themselves refer to as Ahmusta Kebzeh. (Europeans and Russians refer to it as 'Caucasian Yoga'). When one compares the wisdom contained in Eckhart Tolles words with the teachings of Kebzeh they have the distinct "feeling" of resonating from the same source. The works of Murat Yagan are an example of this resonance. Yagan has himself prepared detailed publications around the Circassian tradition of "Living Life Abundantly". Since Yagan and Tolle are literally (and figuratively) in each other's backyards I am look forward to the two of them getting together and sharing their wisdom someday. Be Well Ed Schulte
Rating: Summary: MY EXPERIENCE PRACTICING THE POWER OF NOW Review: I found the Power of Now almost one year ago and have practiced it intensively since that time, including listening to most of the audiotapes and seeking out many workshops in order to be in the presence of this remarkable human whom I have come to love very deeply. I have talked to numbers of people who come to see him, many from strikingly different religious or spiritual paths, but all claim that Eckhart speaks the truth of their own path. He cuts right through to the essence of all spiritual teachings. Buddhist, Christian, A Course in Miracles...it doesn't matter. All can claim his teaching as their own. My year has been full of consistent, wonderous internal transformation. Eckhart describes exactly what will happen, and it does. He knows the process, the roadblocks so well, there are few surprises. And even with the aching longing to be permanently transformed, the practice itself, as he tells us, is beautiful. Full of wonder, really, at watching your Self unfold. But in order to get the most out of these simple "practices" you have to recognize this book's signifance and make it the most pressing priority of your life. Trust every word this gentle teacher tells you, for he speaks from the deepest possible truth. It is necessary not only for your own personal joy, but for that of your suffering brothers.
Rating: Summary: Quite good Review: This book really does teach how to practice the Presence. I have found since starting it that I can remain without thoughts for 20 min or so. Feels good.
Rating: Summary: All We Need to Know Review: Indeed Eckhart Tolle's book "The Power of Now" is a powerful tool for opening into the vastness & peace of the "Now". In trying to apply his words by being aware of where my attention is, I have discovered how often my attention is in the past or future. I also discovered that when I can live NOW, almost miraculous things have sometimes taken place in my life. Tolle tells us that since we have based our lives on what we have been taught, our cultural heritage, DNA & how we have been treated, etc. everything we "think" possible is caged within the limited possibilities of that particular world which is based on our "past" experiences. So we expect the "future" to grow out of the "past". Very limited!! Therefore when you can be intensely present NOW, that world created by your mind drops away, & what is left is infinite possibility! I cannot recommend this book strongly enough, & if you are more auditory than visual, buy the tapes of Tolle reading his own book.
