Summary: Timeless Wisdom re-stated for Modern (Western) times!...
Review: This work will become a true Spiritual Classic. Eckhart states that none of these core concepts are new. They have been re-stated in a crisp clean no-nonsense fashion. Here is the easiest and clearest light upon the path to spiritual peace and freedom I have ever read or listened to. I have the book and audiobook. I like both, but enjoy the audio version read by the author best; because the sense of deep peace conveyed in the authors voice.

After reading and re-reading the book I felt compelled to go and listen for myself to Eckhart in person. I was curious if his presence would be what was conveyed through the book. I flew to New York shortly after the awful incidents in Manhattan and D.C. and participated in a Meditation Retreat at the Omega Institute. Eckhart conducted a five day workshop that was amazing. 'Life-changing' is the best description for it. He exudes PEACE through his serenity! It was a God-send after the horrible upsetting incidents of the previous week. We didn't retreat from the world, but Eckhart addressed the terrorist attacks from his spiritual frame of reference. Those words healed the hurt and anger, with love. He didn't excuse the terrorists but made clear the insanity that grips the entire human family.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with a yearning for a more spiritual life. An open heart is all that's required to begin down a path to enlightenment. Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed, Krishna, and others pointed to this same path. But many of their words became obscured with the egoistic mind of mankind. You needn't change religions, but rather re-read your scriptures with wide open eyes. For the first time I realized what many of Jesus' words were really about.

There's nothing hard here. It's quite simple and almost obvious after hearing from Eckhart's un-obscured view of life. Enjoy!...

Summary: A Simple Statement
Review: I feel that Eckhart Tolle makes a strong case for paying attention to the obvious, in paying attention to our "not-so-common" common sense. He is the first to state that he is saying things that many spiritual leaders have said in the past, or perhaps ALL truly moving spiritual leaders have said. His work is in many ways a condensation of those teachings. He quotes Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, and others.

He states that all humans have the capacity to "get it", that we are all beautiful people. It is easy to take his words at face value and not actually apply them. I listened to the audio version of his book. For those that feel he contradicts himself, the tapes might be useful: the words of the book are delivered in Tolle's own voice, with his inflections, melting some misunderstanding in phrasing choices. It is often easier to remember something he said 10 minutes ago than something you yourself read over 50 pages ago, and perhaps 2 days before.

I highly recommend Tolle's statement of the obvious. A truly powerful statement is a statement of the obvious, because it cuts through all the mental clutter, all the B.S., everything that keeps us from understanding.

Enjoy!

Summary: Very insightful
Review: I found this book to be very insightful, and not just in a spiritual way. Reading this book has changed how I view the world as a whole.

Summary: What a great "how to book on practical spirituality
Review: I've have been on a spiritual journey for many years. The Power of Now is one of the clearest books I've read on the subject of making spirituality practical. As I read the book I was glad to see that Tolle's ideas are built on the Bible and other spiritual teachings. I have incorporated some of the exercises into my own practice of spiritual healing.

I was also struck by the resonance to the ideas in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. While the language in Science and Health is different, because it was written in the 19th century, it is clearly in harmony with Tolle's writing.

So now, in addition to getting spiritual direction from sacred texts of the world and Science and Health, I have added Power of Now to my spiritual travel bag. The closest on-line dialogue I've found for ideas like this is at ( ).

Summary: Invitations for daily life
Review: This book was recommended over a period by various people from house people to inmates. I have a list of souls I started 2 years ago to discuss and share Conversations with God. Now I just send out what I feel at the time may be appropriate from what I receive and occasionally my own thoughts. It is no longer centered on discussions of CWG.

CWG and many other works are more invitations to consider while this book not only does that but invites the reader to apply in very simple ways methods that may result in change in consciousness.

This book is aptly titled but will put off many. If one can take their mind out of it and be as objective as they know how it can provide some simple concepts to look at and perhaps apply.

I know it has helped me remember my Now. There is no-thing else.

As I am also involved with a metaphysical outreach for inmates where I can and I will recommend this book to them. As you can all imagine being an inmate invites many different methods of coping. Inmate or not this book may help many.

Be Blessed

Summary: If I only owned one book
Review: I have hundreds of books, many in the area of spiritual growth, and many good ones from notable authors like Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, James Redfield. However if I could only keep one book, it would be "The Power of Now". You have to read it to experience it for yourself, words do not aptly describe...

Summary: The truth doesn't need to be complicated
Review: I was a little put off when the author described himself as sitting on a park bench being incredibly happy for two years affter his enlightenment. Sounded nuts to me. Then I realized that real enlightenment might look a little nuts to the rest of us. The author is able to explain profound truths very simply. I found the information changing my attitudes and behavior immediately. And he explained some things I have wondered about, for instance I have wondered about the future of the earth and the human race (which doesn't look good) and how consciousness could continue if the human race doesn't continue. His explanation of consciousness experimenting with form makes more sense to me than other things I've read. He also takes us gently to task, somewhat like the Dalai Lama, and doesn't allow us to make excuses for our poor habits. This is also a good book for anyone wanting some insight on relationships.

Summary: Utterly profound, a book to TRULY change your life.
Review: I was attracted to the title of this book, and when I picked it up and read Eckhart Tolle's first words, a description of waking up in the middle of the night years ago filled with dread and an unnameable fearfulness, I thought: "This is me". When I returned to the bookstore a few days later to buy it, ALL of their multiple copies were sold, as was another bookstore's. Three local libraries had it out on loan, with a waiting list to reserve it. This is a book that connects to people. The premise of "The Power of Now" is that, rather than USING our minds, we have grown into a society that is used BY our minds, trapping us in a neverending cycle of repetitive, negative thinking that totally absorbs us out of ourselves and any awareness about the miraculous moment we are in RIGHT NOW. This is not a new concept, and the author is admitedly influenced by the teachings of the Buddha and "A Course in Miracles". What makes his approach so remarkable (aside from his clear, vital writing style) is a simple question-and-answer format that Tolle has drawn out of years of teaching. Tolle presents probing, often argumentative questions raised by his students, and then answers them with eye-opening truths. The book is also notated throughout for moments to stop reading, put it down, and get a feeling of the message that's been presented. And it's these moments NOT reading, but allowing yourself to be conscious of what you've read, that really opens the ideas for you. "The Power of Now" is so vastly superior to other books of its kind, it is staggering. While I am currently relaxing my way through a third reading, none of the philosophy of "Now" is in any way promotive of obsession or in conflict with ANY religious or spirtual belief, as a previous reviewer seemed to suggest. I will be buying a LOT of these for holiday presents.

Summary: Thought provoking.
Review: This books takes some time to read if you contemplate what you are reading. It is worth doing so. An extremely powerful read for those who have the courage to stretch their perspective.
