Rating: Summary: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle Review: I truly wish I could afford to ship this book to everyone in the entire world. Eckhart's words speak the truth about life, love and true inner peace. Over the past few years I suffered the loss of several close dear friends and most recently my Father. I felt disillusioned with God, life, love and the human race in general. This wonderful book has renewed my spirit, has given me inner peace and has filled my heart with pure joy. To quote myself, "I feel as though I have come back from a 3 year hiatus from life." Buy this book...you will NOT be disappointed. Eckhart...if you read this...I wish you many blessings and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Wisdom - Some Criticisms Review: I bought Tolle's book THE POWER OF NOW yesterday. Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. His message resonates with what little I know about Being, and with much of what I understand about Buddhism.I fervently agree that the human race must awaken to a higher level of consciousness in order to survive. The evidence is of impending calamity is flooding us -- violence, superficial commercialism, imbalance of opportunities and power, hunger, disease, and materiality as the measure of the person. Social action only goes so far. The real answer is that each one of must take responsibility for our own spiritual awakening, for when we have experienced awakening, we will emanate compassion and healing just by Being. What I missed in Tolle's book was a deeper teaching on the myriad ways the egoic mind latches onto false identity. He mentions some of the classic ways we create identity through racism, nationalism, and so on. In particular, I was disappointed in the way that Tolle dealt with gender. In truth, gender is but one more way in which the egoic mind latches onto identification. But rather than encourage readers to explore the falseness of gender as identity, Tolle seems to bless the male/female dichotomy as one aspect of the physical world that has substance. He does this by writing in depth about the problems and pitfalls of the romantic heterosexual relationship. But if we are going to be true to the path, we must also view gender as an identity grasped at by the egoic mind. If you want to understand more about gender, I highly recommend Martine Rothblatt's book THE APARTHEID OF SEX. Criticisms aside, I think Tolle offers us a remarkable guide to finding joy through experiencing the NOW.
Rating: Summary: The Power of WOW!!!! Review: I highly recommend this book to anyone that is serious about their spiritual and philosophical journey. I've read many wonderful books on the topic, not least of which is Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, but got the feeling that all the reading I've done prior culminates, in essence, into this one truly significant work. I had some difficulty comprehending Chapter 6 on the inner body and I look forward to reading it again but the rest of it just blew me away. Mr. Tolle also provides practical examples which I find extremely helpful when dealing with such profound subject matter. The basic premise is living in the present moment, becoming consciously evolved and not allowing your mind to continually delude you with past or future thoughts thus stealing the only truth you actually do possess which is the now. I'm not too good at summarizing so I'll not mislead you, but I will tell you that this work resonated with me in a big way. It speaks to our higher level of consciousness that most of us are not aware that we have.
Rating: Summary: An Overdue Sense of Peace Review: I've never written a review before (although I read them often). This book does not need yet another raving review, yet I feel compelled to do so. Tolle's book has the same trappings of many "spiritual guidance" books: difficulty in bringing the philosophy to practical "American" living; regurgitating the same answer to too many scenarios; and it pulls the reader quickly along when the philosophy comes down to faith. I only mention these in order to be make clear my objectivity. Beyond a doubt, I found this book refreshing in a way no other has. I've long been confind by an identity created by my mind through an intricate maze of acheivements, failures, pleasures, pains... forever reliving the past and creating fantasies about the future. Right now I feel clean, light, and empowered. Who could ask for more?
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: What an incredible read. Not something one would just buzz through. I absorbed little by little, making notes for me inside. A challenge, but a thumbs up to anyone who is open to everything in thought between two covers. Have fun!
Rating: Summary: Best Nonfiction Book of the Year Review: Sound too woo-woo for you? Not to worry, Tolle writes in an unpretentious and accessible way. He offers more information than what one is typically given in the personal growth genre. Also, his writing is non-linear, and while not better than linear writing, it is a refreshing change. This is a you-won't-be-sorry book.
Rating: Summary: This will bump you up, if you are... Review: The word enlightenment is defined very applicably here. This is one of those books that makes change for the uplifting in your life, but I think if you are not open to the spirit this book may, and I say may since this book may open your spirit up, not be what you want to read. I say that since the write is very directed and aimed at lifting existing spirituality. But dont take that negatively, there is nothing negative or weak about this one. I recommend this book to everyone, including Osama. Another great eye opener is by Karl Mark Maddox, that title is SB 1 or God.
Rating: Summary: very helpfull for the everyday NOW living Review: This is a spot of light in the darknes something that can really help to anyone to find the inner self and the meaning of life. Most of self esteem and espiritual books are full of inspiring histories that might inspire to someone but that's it. However the Power of Now goes beyond that and build a espiritual path or a bridge to life enlightment, joy and peace. The best of a had read so far. Make yourself a favor and buy it and give it to others.
Rating: Summary: This may just be THE book! Review: Eckhart Tolle's message isn't new. His book is meant to point us toward enlightenment, and thus his teachings aren't much different than that of Buddhism. But the way this book SPEAKS... WOW! I've been reading "Power of Now" slooowly, over the past week and a half. I'm nearly finished with it, and plan on starting again on page one when I'm done. This may be the ONE book that you've been looking for... it's that good. You can FEEL the essence of Tolle's message while you read. The book BREATHES with spiritual insight. As you read, you just KNOW that what Tolle says is "the truth." In reading the book, meditating, and practicing these principles in everyday life, I've noticed in myself an increased ability to be "fully present" in the world and STAY THERE. This is the experience I've been wanting for many years. I've been waking up each morning in a peaceful mood... I think, while sleeping, I've been integrating the lessons I've learned! Be here now... it's the only place and time to be.
Rating: Summary: A Masterpiece Review: Eckhart Tolle has assembled a thorough, accessible work on a very pure form of realization: the realization of one's presence. As a fully realized being, Tolle explores the topic of this being-ness. He demonstrates how to transcend life's challenges not so much by efforting, but by simply and firmly remaining in the point of power: the now. In a gentle, intelligent and humorous way, he answers student questions about real-life, practical concerns such as relationships and family. These answers are clear and direct, and can satisfy the beginner as well as the long-time seeker of realization. He honors each reader and listener when he writes, "You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold. That is how important you are!" I found the chapter on the Inner Body most useful. This is the "meat" of how to practice one's presence. Tolle recommends we feel the inner body at all times. "This will rapdily deepen and transform your life. . . . negativity cannot affect you anymore, and you tend to attract new circumstances." This book merits reading and re-reading. It is a treasure.
