Summary: Be your Self
Review: God-fearing atheism is what I would have called my shaky yet logical alternative to faith. I settled on this after an evolution of discontent with modern practices of the popular western religions and the lack of good answers to important questions. My pragmatic mind would no longer endure the unprovable, deciding once and for all that devoting more time to it in a fleeting life would be wasteful. After all, everything I admired and feared about God, everything that made God interesting enough to pursue, had been hearsay. You can't bet your life on hearsay. So until God pops in with a miracle I'd focus on practical things, like making money and looking good.

The woven logic above unravels now. It unravels not through intelligent counter-attack and argument, but through finding that which is eternal---within me, within you, within everything, and even the space and nothingness about and between. The answer is. God is. I am. Now.

My experiences throughout and after the reading of "The Power of Now" have been profound. Some of the writing may seem paradoxical, but you will understand it nonetheless on a deeper level than the mind. The book not only describes enlightenment but shows you the way. Actually several paths lead to enlightenment and they are described in surprising practical detail.

Eckhart Tolle is the author's name. "The Power of Now" is the book's name. They point you to that which is nameless.

Honor your self by reading "The Power of Now."

Summary: Not worth the paper it is printed on.
Review: I sensed I was in trouble with this book when I read an endorsement from Deepak Chopra, the Martha Stewart of enlightenment. In writing this review I have no delusion about changing the minds of any true believers, those seekers of the truth. There are enough of you to keep this author prosperous for years.

Instead, I am hoping to stop those readers who are earnestly looking for more out of life from wasting their money. This may be the worst book of its type I have ever read. It goes nowhere. It offers no new insight, nor does it take existing ideas and present them in a new, creative way. One critic refered to his writing as gibberish. I think that's being kind. I actually got angry reading this book. OH! I was very much in the "Now" when I had this reaction.

You could read this book a hundred times and not find anything useful. Here is the gist of what I think he's saying. Don't spend time worrying about things you can't control or change. It leads to frustration and in extreme cases to serious illness. Take the energy you would spend worrying and apply it towards positive, constructive thoughts and actions in everything you do.

There are so many authors who say it more precisely, more insightfully and more creatively. Invest your money in them.

Eckhart is a charlatan. He has figured out one of our modern era's greatest shames; you'll never go broke preying on the needs of others. Mr. Tolle is to serious insight into life as John Tesh is to serious music.

Summary: There is only now
Review: Juust what is the now? It is the moment around which your whole life unfolds. This book has helped me become aware of how I continuously create my unhapiness. The blinkers are blowing of and I have to admit that there is huge resistence to this.

I am able to identify the theme of avoidence in my life. Is it posible to be truely happy? I want to cross the shore, but this means a kind of death that is dificult.

Through suffering Tolle has found the answer, and the answer is now. My suffering is great, but i can feel the power of Tolles words. All I need now is to let go of and embrace a new life.

Summary: Look Inside Yourself For True Wealth
Review: Eckhart Tolle's book is an insightful resource for living in the moment. I especially found the chapter "You are not your mind,"
inspiring. Just by reading the possibility that I am separate from the constant positive or negative thoughts I have about myself, others or situations, I felt a sense of freedom. I am able to distingish myself from my thoughts and live my life in a sincere and authentic way. Not as a result of my mind's concept but as a direct expression of whom I am. The idea that Tolle presents of how living in the present moment I am able to discover that I am complete and perfect is also truly remarkable.

Another inspiring book about living a meaningful life is called "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work," written by Ariel & Shya Kane. Enlightenment is no longer an elusive state for a chosen few, but has become a realty for many people through insightful and practical guide books such as "The Power of Now" and "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work." I highly recommend both of these books.

Summary: Oprah Hype
Review: Have you ever been disappointed by a book that Oprah
recommended? Well, don't be fooled again. I am a
normal person of at least average intelligence. I
enjoy reading spiritual books, but this one is ridiculous!
I tried several times to sit down and focus on this book
and I felt like I was reading a bunch of gibberish.
Returned a copy to [a competitor's bookstore] today and the cashier
told me that a lot of people hate this book.

Summary: The End of Suffering is Possible!
Review: This is the best book I have EVER read. Period.

I've never written a review, but I had to chime in here. This amazing book is a plain-spoken how-to for living a sane life, free of misery. Why don't they teach this to children in schools? Why don't therapists know this?

Eckert Tolle's gentleness, clarity and intelligence shines forth from every page. Consistently, with every paragraph, he urges the reader to journey inside to discover the treasure that is our birthright - inner joy and peace.

If you are ready to drop drama from your life, if you've had enough suffering, if you would like to lessen the hold fear has on your way of being, perhaps "The Power of Now" will blow you away as it did me.

How many stars is that worth?

Summary: Star Power -- NOW, Positives Over Negatives In Life
Review: YES -- this book has the 5-star power of Now being here to help us. The Zen of finding the positives in the face of the negatives is the key. This book is wonderful -- helpful & enlightening. And I might add, don't forget the workbook supplement, Practicing The Power Of Now, and also try the practical psychology complement, How To Change Your Entire Life By Doing Absolutely Nothing. These books help us learn to get in touch with the POWER to feel better, be better, and live better. I recommend them highly. NOW !!

Summary: I'd give it ten stars if I could!
Review: The Power of Now is an impressively written very inpiring book. It resonated so clearly with me that I felt shaken after having read through it. The new doors that were opened in my awareness, didn't all open to places that felt good or that were comforatable. Sometimes it was frightning, and sometimes it was painful. But, the experience, in the end, was cathartic and deeply beneficial.

I've been a practicing therapist for many years, and have begun to use Tolles ideas in my practice - with great success. Although, many that don't have the prior experience with eastern wisdom, or psychological concepts, have a hard time making the leap from theory to practice with The Power of Now alone. I recommend for all to first read Present Moment Awareness (author: Shannon Duncan), which gives very practical and useable ideas and assignments for the reader to do, that truly set up the appropriete frame of mind to get the most out of what Eckhart is teaching.

Summary: Enlightening Indeed
Review: After I had purchased the audio cassette of "The Power of Now", I made a commitment to listen to it at least twice a week, usually while I'm performing some mundane tasks such as exercising or doing housework. For someone who is in search for more meaning in life, I find its question and answer format very suitable for me. I praise Eckhart Tolle's skill in getting his message across without sounding arrogant.
The impact which "The Power of Now" had on my "being" is so positive that I believe I have a better understanding of my own existence.

Summary: Now is a good place.
Review: Every now and again, a book comes along to remind us of how simple life is
and how complicated we make it with our minds. In "The Power of Now",
Eckhart Tolle converses with his readers about what it is to shift from a
thought-based and time-based view of life to a being-based life. It's a
simple idea: there is no moment but now, and when you get into this
moment of now, the past and future have no power over you. If a mental
grasp of this concept could get people into the present and keep them
there forever, we'd have a lot more enlightened people on the planet. To
that point, when a student in the book tries to insist that the past and
future are real, Tolle replies: "You haven't yet grasped the essence of
what I am saying because you are trying to understand it mentally. The
essence of what I am saying here cannot be understood by the mind. The
moment you grasp it, there is a shift in consciousness from mind to Being,
from time to presence. Suddenly, everything feels alive, radiates
energy, emanates Being."

What people can do, Tolle suggests, is to practice getting into the now -
by feeling what's happening in their bodies, by noticing their own
thoughts without holding them as true. Everything that is precious about
life is in the Now. Eckhart's presence is powerful and palpable in this
book. As I read it, I felt worries and concerns about things I can't
control just drop away. I can't explain this phenomenon, but as Tolle
says, the mind can't hold the moment. The daily practice of being present
is key, since each day brings new challenges to remaining centered.
