Summary: Provocative
Review: This book is a bestseller because it provides us with frame work to lifes many challenging questions. The Power of Now has differentiated for me the two things I hold in high esteem, namely my family and myself. By doing this I am in a better position to make decisions (by not intermingling these two). Another book that has proven very influential to me is Dreams: Gateway to the True Self. It's a parallel of this book in that Dreams identifies the self and provides structure to the endless sea of jargon surrounding the unconscious. Many have read both and liked what they have read.

Summary: A Good Book!
Review: A book to "Guide" one to "Spiritual Enlightenment". A field guide of sorts. It either works or it doesn't, it gets you to where you'd like to be or you find yourself lost. In this case you can find your way and Eckhart Tolle explains it rather nicely. Not to say there isn't a point or two which could use a little simpler explanation, and why I'd consider giving the book 4 1/2 stars, but these concerned women more than men and being one and not the other perhaps I'm the one at fault and not Mr. Tolle. I am personally aware of some of the enlightenments spoken of in this book and can attest to their being valid. That's why, to me, this is a "Good Book".

Summary: Freeing Yourself from Your Thoughts is Easier Than You Think
Review: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle creates the possibility of living a life free from anxiety, worry and self-doubt. In a direct and intimate way, as if you and Eckhart were sitting together talking, he describes the habitual and culturally-embedded behaviors that people unconsciously recreate and the ways to dissolve them. Freeing yourself from these behaviors is much simpler than our minds would assume: he says that it takes being present to your life and simply observing what is. I found this to be a refreshing relief. He describes thinking as an 'affliction' and a 'disease.' At first, I found this shocking, as thinking is something that is so much a part of me and I certainly hadn't considered myself 'diseased' by it. But when I looked at all of the ways in which my judgments, resentments and complaints ' all thought-generated ' are futile and irrelevant to the reality of my life, I saw the truth in this description of thinking. It is a hindrance to living in the moment and being fully alive. The Power of Now is full of such insights and they are all conveyed in a direct, honest and gentle way.
For those of you who enjoyed this book and are interested in discovering that there is more aliveness and joy available in life, I also highly recommend Working On Yourself Doesn't Work by Ariel and Shya Kane. This book is actually the first place where I discovered that there is a difference between who I am and my thoughts about who I am. It's written in a simple and uncomplicated way by two people who are compassionate and create an opportunity for their readers to have a magical, fun and rich life without changing anything about themselves.

Summary: The most direct way to achieve inner-peace
Review: This book cuts to the issues of achieving happiness and inner-peace better than any others. While great wisdom can be found in other books on this subject, one must read between their lines to identify the true dissatisfaction with life that plagues the people of our modern society. The Power of Now, however, directly identifies and addresses this issue within the first 20 pages.

The book is short and to the point and the style is very easy to read and understand. The author wastes no time creating lengthy examples and then providing lengthy solutions. He addresses many of our culture's common issues and questions in a 'tough-love' way that direct yet sensitive.

If you are truly ready to begin the journey toward spirituality, enlightenment and inner-peace, read this book and you will quickly be on that path.

Summary: Wait a minute!...NOW...the "law" of impermanence?
Review: One of the main lessons of "Enlightenment" is that life goes on after "Enlightenment".

On page 74 it states that "the sooner you realize that your outer purpose cannot give you lasting fulfillment, the better."
This is because "every outer purpose is doomed to "fail" sooner or later, simply because it is subject to the law of impermanence of all things." Just a tad pessimistic, eh?

While impermanence is "true" on one level, there is something else, even more "true" called: when you learn to ride the wave of impermanence, you become one with impermanence (another word for constant change) and are able to make it's so called "negative" effects disappear. In other words you become an actual living evolving being. NOW you become a learner, except now you take the ecstacy with you as you learn and change. "Enlightnment" is just the first step! What, did you think you were just going to become some monk on a hill somewhere? Nah! Now its time to use your mind instead of "trying to rise above it" and all that stuff. Step into the unknown, with pleasure. Be in the now, or not....it's up to you. Create a worthwhile future NOW.

If you enjoy getting "all profound and stuff" this book will be a fun read. But will the "law" of impermanence prevent you from enjoying it?.....Oh No! ; )!

Summary: Happiness in THIS moment !
Review: I avoided by this book for a while. I read some of the negative reviews on here and let that deter me. Then a friend recommended it, and here I am.

Eckhart Tolle delivers in THE POWER OF NOW! What does that mean? It means that as you read this book, you will find essential truths about yourself and what goes on in your mind and thoughts. Normally we don't pay much attention to our thoughts. We just let them bounce around in our head triggering our happiness or misery.

Wait? How do thoughts do that? I didn't think my thoughts did that? Of course you didn't. Most of us don't. We are so used to the chatter in our head that we ACCEPT it and don't even realize that this non-stop dialogue is the equivalent to being trapped in a moving vehicle with the passenger from hell who never shuts up... who pivots from totally joyful and complimentary to completely negative and attacking in a split second... over and over again! Yes, this is you! This is all of us... even those of us who have practiced positive thinking and have gained a reasonable amount of control over our thoughts. That nonstop chatter in you can be calmed and even stopped for lengthy periods of time. Why would you want this? Because when the mind is quiet, we are free to experience pure joy and bliss and serenity... because when our thoughts aren't telling us how wonderful we are or what losers we are, or how we did this wrong or that right... or whatever they tell you... there is a wonderful feeling that will pervade every cell of your being. The simple truth that few realize is that the chatter in our heads is dictating our moods, feelings, and judgements of everything. (seriously, right now, just stop, and listen to your thoughts... what are they telling you? What are they saying about you? About me? About this review? Start listening to your thoughts and you'll learn a lot about why you are or are not happy with you life or areas of it )

All that being said, you now can begin to understand the essence of the power of Now. Eckhart does a wonderous job in guiding us through the dark veil of brain chatter into THIS MOMENT, where we do not have to dwell on the past or worry about the future. He takes the time to remind us that Now is all that matters and essentially it is all that exists. And he writes so the reader can understand what he means. He is very straight-forward and has the reader apply what he has written in the very moment they have read it. What could be a better testament to the power of now than to have us stop and become aware of the 'now.'

Even more amazing is that whether or not you stop and apply what you have read, you will still have gained a whole new understanding of living in this moment and not get caught up in all the things that were and all the things that might be. You will walk away from this book freer because there will be instants when you are dwelling on the past or worrying about the future, and in one of those instants it will occur to you that you don't need to put yourself through such misery. And in the moment you have this revelation you will smile and laugh and remember Eckhart Tolle's words and wisdom and be grateful for it. AND if you are anything like me, you will be grateful enough for the gift of that momentary revelation that you will retreive the book from your bookcase and begin reading it all over again.

This is the mark of a great book! In fact, writing this review has reminded me just how much I loved this book and I'm inspired to read it yet AGAIN! Thank you, Eckhart!

Summary: Erase the HOLLOWNESS from your life
Review: My father gave me this book as a gift for Christmas. Little did I know upon receiving it that it had the power to change the lens in which I view the world. Living in such a high-paced, money and egocentric era, I have found it extremely difficult to find true joy, and to find myself for that matter. We are constantly bombarded with ideologies that perpetuate the decadent nature of our existence. This makes it extremely hard for the individual to break away from these cultural "norms", as they are virtually hardwired into our ways of being. Life has always seemed to be a cycle of winning and losing, of ups and downs, of happiness and sorrow. This book has the potential to break these cycles and bring you true joy and acceptance of not only yourself, but the world [universe] around you -- which Tolle contends is one in the same. Joy is not rooted in religion, acheivement, money or any other physical or ideological manifestation... it is much simpler than that. Joy is rooted in YOU (in the form of spirituality), and Tolle tells you exactly what to practice in order to achieve the ultimate feeling. Perhaps the best part of the process is that it is attainable as you read the book. It is a very deep book, so read it slowly and relish its every word. I plan on reading it again. If you need an ideology to compare it to, I would say that it is very Zen-like, but again, this is only a comparison. I recommend this book to all my friends and loved ones, and I recommend it to you too. Stop your suffering, and begin living in the "Now". Forget who you were or where you want to go. Deal with things on a moment to moment basis. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by reading this book. Enjoy!
As one last footnote - if you are a person who is constantly lost in thought regarding past events or future, imaginary points in time, (like I was) this book brings you back to where you belong, and to where true joy exists - you guessed it... NOW.

Summary: An end to stress
Review: I used to stress and worry over the smallest little things in my life. Things far off in the future that I couldn't change or may very well never happen at all. After reading the first 15 pages of this book, I turned off my stress like a light switch! All the thoughts, worries, and dread are over. I don't dwell upon the past or the future anymore. I'm only concerned with right now. Anybody who has stress or anxiety, or who spends a lot of time worrying or thinking about the past or the future, you really should read this book. Your life will be so much better!

Summary: Great book
Review: I love this book and I think it can change your life, but I'm troubled that I am seeing that Julie Norem is promoting her own books on other successful book sites to link her book up with theirs. Shame on you.

Summary: a sincere message from ET
Review: I did an interview with Eckhart in Holland, and met a sincere man, sweet and timid in personality. His message is wide spread now, and stimulates many seekers to read even more. I would recommand readers of his book also to take a look at Tony Parson's book, "As It Is".
