Summary: Insightful and compelling
Review: Many of the reviews here seem to be very negative, when the reality is that this book is simply a new and different approach, which is exactly what makes it so compelling. It is refreshing to have such a practical and straightforward approach to living our lives based on something we can control..our thoughts and how they influence how we live. Any book that helps remind us how important this connection is would be worthwhile. However, a book that does so in such an interesting way is worth reading.

I also highly recommend Intuitive Healing: Five Steps to Physical, Emotional and Sexual Wellness by Dr. Judith Orloff.
Dr. Orloff offers the best, most complete and the most fascinating strategy for using our minds to acheive inner peace, success and healing I have seen yet. Add it to your nightstand "must-reads!"

Summary: Life enhancing!
Review: A person has to be at a very open level of understanding to be open to this depth of knowledge. If you are ready for this opportunity, this perspective can change your life for the better in such a way that you can never go back. Once you have the knowledge you can move forward in your life, and everything changes for the better. I want to give this to everyone, but not everyone is ready, for they are so attached to their "suffering image". But one day they will be, and the world will be a better place for it. I write about nutrition in The Simple Truth About Nutrition, to make the body a better place to live in so we can all be our best, this CD helps us to live in a better place in our soul! Let money be no object, get these CD's, I only wish I had discovered them sooner!

Summary: Dare to read this book and see through your mind
Review: I find it intriguing how this book has garnered many responses at opposite extremes -- either people loved it, or they hated it. I have to admit that when I first picked it off the bookshelf, I put it right back. To look at things from the perspective that my mind could be my own worst enemy was, to say the least, quite intimidating.

But being the counselor I am, I recognized a response in myself that I see all the time in therapy: the "don't go there" shutdown clients sometimes go into when you get too close to the root of a problem.

Eckhart Tolle "goes there". He reveals the mind for what it truly is. No, it's not something we need to get rid of, and in fact it helps us immensely in the appropriate situations. But the problem is, it often takes over. It drowns out the Real You with its incessant chatter. It runs amok and is capable of causing all sorts of misery. Only if you can see through this, and recognize the mind for what it truly is, can you break through and find enlightenment.

It's not easy to accept. No one said the truth was easy. But if you are ready for it, Eckhart Tolle and The Power of Now definitely deliver the truth. Face it if you dare, and watch your life change for the better. I highly recommend this fascinating book.

Summary: Same as Buddhist Teachings
Review: First of all, I need to come clean: I have not read the book, just the reviews. I'm sure that this book has value for many people. Please, just realize that Buddhism (and probably other religions/philosophies) have long taught the same thing. Many Buddhist meditations are about stilling the mind and dealing with afflictive emotions (anger, greed, lust, etc.).

If you like this book, that's great, but please be aware that these ideas have been around for some time. You may also benefit from books on Buddhist meditation, no matter what your religious affiliation or faith.

Summary: I certainly feel better
Review: I started reading the book a week ago and immediately felt more focused after the first chapter. I have been reading about Zen Buddhism for about a year now, and while I found it enlightening, I have not read any other book that was as clearly stated. I am a survivor of many abuses in my early years, and I found that I was constantly reliving these abuses and suffering the pain all over again. Now, I have a handle on my thinking that was lacking. I recommend this book to anyone who seriously wants to be at peace. I think that anyone who is looking for power over others or material gain should not bother. I also recommend that those who read this book and found that it changed them should read Thiaoouba Prophecy by Michel Desmarquet (sp.?)

I read every review on this site and I feel so hopeful for the future of this planet that so many people understood and are passing the message on. Perhaps there is hope for a better world in the near future.

Summary: Now is all there is!
Review: "The Power of Now" is a wonderful book which puts you in control of our life by focusing on the present moment. Although there is little new in this book, the way Tolle emphasizes the power of the present moment is compelling. In addition, I absolutely recommend Dr. Rosalene Glickman's "Optimal Thinking - How to Be Your Best Self" (Wiley 2002). Glickman shows you how to accept what is out of your control (like the past, the weather, etc) and maximize the present moment with simple questions like "What's the best thing I can do under the circumstances?" She provides the ultimate, practical roadmap to deal with all disturbing emotions. If you read both of these books, you will not only have control of your life, but all the nuts and bolts to optimize any situation.

Summary: mind
Review: I read a review that said a lot of readers hate this book. Hate seems a little strong. Who hates it? Minds hate the idea of being called a tool. If you read Power of Now with your mind, you probably won't finish it. If you do as Eckert says and not get hung up on the words, they will pass right through your mind and kindle your spirit.

The downside of the book is that it removes all excuses - now that we know, we must act. I believe that this book may usher in the "New Age" - it could be the catalyst that gives humanity the strength to raise it's consciousness. Groups may form, energy will concentrate, others will be attracted. Many spiritual teachers speak of a planetary transformation during the generation beginning in the eighties. It would indeed be a transformation if we all lived in the Now. No more madness.

This is the 261st review. I seriously doubt that many people read all the reviews. But if you get this far and still haven't decided, put another vote on the "read it" side. Savor it. Languish over it. Let it wash over you like a warm bath. Now that I think of it, get the tapes and listen to his voice. The sounds make the words vibrate, and are more likely to pass through your brain. I was going to say "read it, you won't be disappointed", but I can't since apparently many have been. It's one of those "love" "hate" things - not much neutral.

Give it a shot - what have you got to lose. Just some of your mind, that's all.

Summary: Appreciate Today and Live Now = Be At Peace
Review: ... Reading this book is great for keeping life in perspective. We are not supposed to be happy and satisfied all of the time. ... Good to know that the power of 'word of mouth' is working, and this book is now on the NYTimes bestseller list. ... It is excellent! Very thought-provolking!

Summary: "The Power of Now"
Review: This is the best book on spiritual enlightenment I have ever read! Tolle's insights are amazing and ring true. They make sense intellectually and "feel" true from within. I have heard, read, and agreed with the basic principle of living in the present for years; but this is the first book that brings it all together in a way that enables the reader to begin practicing the NOW right now. I thank authors like Deepak Chopra, James Redfield, Thomas Merton, and C.S. Lewis for preparing me to so readily embrace the teachings of Tolle. But this book far surpasses all the others in presenting the amazing Truth of who we are and how we can realize our true lives as manifestations of God in the joyful manner intended by God. I am on line today to buy copies for my friends. It is the best gift they will ever receive.
