Summary: I judge a book by its 'stickiness', and this one sticks.
Review: If I am still thinking about a book days and sometimes weeks after I have read it then I consider it a great book. 'The Man Who ListensTo Horses' is such a book.

The writing was good and it didn't distract me from the content which I found fascinating. The human animals relationship with its non-human members is a concept long overdue for exploration and this book is a giant step in that direction. Monty Roberts is a truly exceptional man and a gentle-man in the truest sense of the word. I so hope this book becomes the most chosen textbook on how to 'join-up' with a horse. Montys powers of observation and his ability to draw conclusions from them at such a young age had to be innate. It is a cinch this trait was not acquired from his father. It is a tremendous irony that so much of what he learned was from his father and a prime example of rising above and learning from negativity. Not an easy thing to do! After reading this book I was tempted to buy many copies to give to all the people I knew would love it as much as I did.

Summary: Good reading, but not a how-to book
Review: This book is about the man's life and experiences with horses. It is insightful and easy to read. Unfortunately, I was looking for a book to help me train horses the way he does. Mr. Roberts doesn't give away many of his secrets. After stating that he had learned almost 200 hand and body movements which are understood by horses, he never told the reader how to do them. After reading the entire book, I found 7 pages in an appendix in which he explains the "join up" procedure. However, if you are looking for a book about an interesting man who has led a very eventful life with horses, this is it.

Review: I cried. I tried it I couldnt test it could my horse dropped his head, chewed, licked his lips & came up to me when i walked into the paddock. In the round yard, he walked up to my back, & just like monty said, he gently nudged me to say "hi, is everything ok?" and of course it was....

Summary: The Man Who Listens To Horses
Review: I loved it ! I counldn't put it down!. It was very inspiring. It shows the other side of training instead of yelling and hitting them. I recomend this book to all my friends! It is the greatest book I have ever read! I have two horses of my own so I can relate to the way Monty Roberts trains his horses . I'm a 15 year old horseback rider. I plan to use his method of horse training from now on.

Summary: The best book I have read on communicating with animals
Review: The way that Monty Roberts learned from observation is a lesson to us all, not only in dealing with animals but each other. The book combines humor with horror in the recounting of Monty's personal life. As a person who has been criticized for being "too nice" to my horses but who realized that I put my life in their "hooves" every day, I feel vindicated by this work. I have always felt that the golden rule applies to animals too. Just as I believe that we should respect others cultures and beliefs, I think we should respect animals and their instincts. It is too bad this work is so often paired with the "Horse Whisperer" because this is so much better. The fictional work lacks heart while this one could make your heart burst from your chest with the emotion it evokes. It is wonderful.

Summary: excellant truthful and honest book
Review: After reading this book my husband who has very limited experience with horses, was able to join up with and saddle our quarter horse yearling within thirty minutes. It was smooth as butter, just exactly like Monty describes in this book. I would not have believed this had I not seen it with my own eyes.

Summary: Monty Roberts pays attention and it pays off.
Review: Of course people who love horses should read this very entertaining memoir, but so should teachers, physicians, police officers and anyone else who deals with people in distress. Monty Roberts tells us how, by observing and "listening" to the subtle movements of horses, he learned to understand and speak their language and to apply this knowledge to develop non-violent training methods. His many stories also make clear that we could all improve our communication skills if we emulate Monty Roberts.

Summary: Terrific lessons in communicating
Review: From a humble upbringing in Salinas, Monty Roberts is determined to find a better way to tame horses than his father. This book covers rodeo horses, the Queen's riding horses, race horses and wild mustangs. Training horses by understanding them is Monty Roberts talent. This is a primer in communications skills, Monty not only interacts with horses, but also with their owners. It is the insight and vitality he brings to his work that makes the book enjoyable for not just the horsey set, but anyone who's enjoyment of life can be enhanced by good communications skills. Those in a position of training, coaching or leadership should consider reading the book for it inspires one to persist, be patient and observe the nuances of a dialog.

Summary: Monty Roberts book was truly inspirational!
Review: After reading this story of a real life "horse whisperer" I was intrigued to call up his website listed in the back of the book. My friend and I found out that he was kicking off his "Join Up" tour demonstration in New York City and went to see him. It truly was amazing to watch this "gentle man" start two young horses. Never did he raise his voice; not even when a two-year stallion reared up to strike out at him. He remained calm and gentle and within 23 minutes had a rider on the horses back. This book is a definite read for everyone, not just horse owners.
