Rating: Summary: A life long memory! Review: For the first time after reading a book I searched back to re-read pieces. I was so taken by the man and his ways that I already sent 3 copies to friends and family to make sure they have the chance to experience the gift that he has given me! Don't miss this one.
Rating: Summary: This is a real story.... Review: I noted that in one review of this book a person noted the character failed to move them, that it was not in a class with The Horse Whisperer. I agree it's not in that class. It is not fiction. Monty Roberts'story is a real person, a real life, and an incredible one. It is a story that goes beyond horses and should be read that way, though it is wonderful as a horse story for the pure animal lover. I am buying copies to share with friends. I also have been to Monty's ranch and seen him work and everything he says he can do in the book, I have seen him do......a must read for anyone in organizational life wondering how to get the best out of everyone around them...
Rating: Summary: Incredible individual! Well written and quite informative. Review: My husband and I were fortunate enough to watch him in person saddle-break a horse. Very interesting book, and a MUST on my list for books to read.Anyone interested in horses needs a copy in their stable.....better yet, in their saddle-pack.
Rating: Summary: Monty Roberts is a miracle worker for horses!! Review: This is a great book for anyone who would like to learn to communicate with horses. I tried out the excercises to achieve "join-up" with my horse, who, like so many of Monty Roberts subjects, was beaten in his younger days. Even without a round pen he showed the submissive signs of licking and lowering his head. He now trusts me much more. This was not just a how-to book, even not-so-serious riders (or for that matter, people who don't ride at all) would enjoy reading the wonderfuly written story of Roberts life.
Rating: Summary: interesting story but not well written Review: Introduction is way too long and repeates all that the author writes in the story. Several unexplained incongruities. Man who rides in horse shows from age 4 on. Yet says he wants to work for free for some horse trainer when he is 40 years old.
Rating: Summary: Great for training animals or husbands by understanding them Review: The wolf fights one another to prove who is the Alfa or lead dog. Those same fighters will kill to protect one another. With this in mind your own dog must be taught you are the Alfa leader of your own pack. Horses & other animals have Alfa leaders thus you must be the Alfa in your Pack/herd to them. For anyone who wants to get more love & understanding from thier own horse they need to understand how the horse lives in the wild . This is the best book I have seen since Will Roger's "Smokey". It not only helps you understand what your horse could be thinking it guides you through training. Men may be from Venus Women from Mars or Women from Venus & men from Mars the horse is truly from God. You'll see this in every page. This would be a great time to try a book on tape so you can listen to it over & over until you know everyword by heart. You will find yourself loving long trips for who wants to leave the car when so great a story is playing...lol.
Rating: Summary: At least one mystery of the universe is revealed Review: This book is one that needed to be written in order for new insight into the nature of animals (of which human beings are a subset, after all) to be shared with the world. The style of the book did not strike me as being compelling - Marty Roberts is a horseman, and not a writer - but what he has to say is well worth paying careful attention to. I'm thinking of trying some of his methods on my child, actually: send them to their room without argument until they come back contrite. Any sensitive, searching soul who wants to learn more about the world around them, the language of natural animals, free from the influence of human social conditioning would enjoy this book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, I'm recommending it to everyone I know. Review: I heard Monty Roberts in a half-hour radio interview and decided to try the book. I'm not that keen on horses - never can tell what they might be thinking. I prefer dogs, but I like all animals and nature is fascinating. However this book is wonderful and the author's style is friendly and enthusiastic. Try it.
Rating: Summary: Roberts shows the uniqueness of training, and loving horses. Review: Roberts had a profound affect on me, I adore horses and it kills me to see how some people train and treat their horses; I believe Roberts is a true inspiration and hero to all lovers of horses for breaking the pattern his father used. To find such a wonderful man with the compassion, understanding and complete love of horses is something that will forever be held in my heart. I would like to thank Monty Roberts for sharing his thoughts with us and let him know I hold him in the highest respect as a writer and a horse lover.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding provider of a new insight to a wellworn subject. Review: I have been working with and making horses for dressage, showjumping and racing for the last thirty years. This book was so illuminating that it almost embarassed me, I thought that I was kind and had a good understanding of horses, I now realise that I was somewhat wide of the mark and will definitely attempt to "START" them Monty's way. This book provides the missing link for so many of us who thought we were experts in our field. The humility of the man is just incredible. He is a true peer in our lives.
