Summary: Absolute Truth and a Must Read for EVERYONE
Review: Dannion Brinkley brings astounding truth as to the actual death experience, and what it is like to come back to life. I know, as a dear family member went through the same experience back in the 1964.
What is most important about this book is that before Dannion's experience, he was one mean, angry guy who brought a lot of pain to a lot of people. When he describes his experiences in this book, he shares how he FELT the pain as he re-lived it during his life review. I read this book when it first came out, nearly a decade ago, and his words STILL stay with me.
No matter HOW much pain you have caused to others, no matter how many hurtful acts you have committed, ANYONE CAN turn it all around, once they turn themselves around.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone whose life has been at the bottom of the barrel, where they KNOW they have brought many people pain, and justified it all along.
This book is a testament to one Divine and wonderful being, Dannion Brinkley, and HOW he was able to turn his life around once he was brought to the light in respect to the life he lived prior to his death experience.
This book is an outstanding contribution to humanity. 10 Stars!

Summary: Proven to be wrong again and again
Review: Dannion Brinkley offers a lot prophecies given to him during his NDE. NONE (zero, nada, zilch) have proven right. What more do you need to feel betrayed? I read this book years ago, and truly awaited some of the scary events the author predicts. I was a believer then - and I am a disbliever now. And if his prophecies turn out to be complete nonsense (as they did), why believe even a word of the rest of the book?

Summary: Excellent book, but careful: Some themes seem UnBiblical.
Review: Dannion Brinkley writes an extremely compelling book on the NDE (near death experience). This is the fellow who got struck by lightening and was clinically dead for 28 minutes before being revived, met by a "Spirit Being" both times he died. His interactions with Dr. Raymond Moody, who studies NDE's, make for excellent reading. He also comments on accounts of others who've died & come back to talk about it. (Dannion can speak with authority on this subject, having experienced it first-hand!)

One of the most interesting things are the predictions given in the book, the "Boxes of Knowledge." Since it was written in 1994, many of them couldn't be verified as accurate. I mean, how do we know he really had these visions back in 1975. Maybe he conveniently remembered certain things after they happened and pretended to predict them.

In any case, this isn't the major thrust of the book, but I'll briefly touch on it: He mentioned (in his book, which, let me emphasize again, was written in 1994) that he sees people flooding over the boarders from South America by 2000 due to civil wars, socialism, and a breakdown of the Mexican economy. These problems and the resulting flood of Hispanic immigrants, both legal and illegal aliens, have all happened to some extent as predicted (immigration being a major political issue nowadays). However, his prediction that Egypt would collapse as a democracy by 1997 seems to not have happened. This nation is considered to be a moderate Arab nation to this day. No one likes a false prophet, so it's a good thing he mentions that the "Beings of Light" (angels) told him that these predictions weren't definite, that "The flow of human events can be changed."

Dannion, however, does good: He claims the main point of these predictions was that we must make a change. True!

The many accounts of his ability to read other peoples' minds, however, MUST NOT be taken lightly, for there is NO rebuttal that I could find on the Internet of his allegations, and I did search deeply. Thus, neither his predictions nor his books should be discounted offhand: He seems like an authentic psychic, a gift he says he gained from his NDE.

In a later book, "At Peace in the Light," Brinkley says his mission is to go to hospices and help with the dying process to let these people know that what they're about to face isn't scary. He tells them his story, assuring them they'll have a life review, asking them to do good so they won't feel regret.

However, his main point in this book is to simply tell people what happened to him, and to share his vision for making these healing "centers" (aided by education in electronics and math in classes during his visions). The purpose of the centers is to let people attain their higher self, help people forgive others, and do good, for he claims that in the life review where your life flashes before your eyes, you get to feel the pain or pleasure you've caused others, and even the pain and suffering or pleasure that results from THEIR actions, downstream, so to speak.

This is the authentic, redeeming quality of the book; he brilliantly captures the law of sowing and reaping. (Plus all those angels and visions don't hurt either!)

Brinkley mentions religion & God in passing, citing, in particular, experiences of people in the Bible that may have been near NDE's. His theme of doing good for others because we're all connected and his message of people taking responsibility or being "in control of their lives through God" (page 60) is certainly in line with mainstream Judeo-Christian philosophy. However, there are nagging omissions that are as wide as a canyon!

On page 202, for example, he says there exist many paths to righteousness, instead of Jesus as the only way. Yet, he doesn't address Jesus' role. He makes absolutely NO mention of Hell, even though it's clearly a topic about which Jesus spoke numerous times. Is there a hell? He doesn't say.

Lastly, his plans for the stress reduction "centers" worries me: On page 60, he mentions one of these rooms has a bed with "musical components" to help a person relax deeply enough to leave his body. This is strictly forbidden by the Bible. See e.g., Ex. 22:18 & Lev. 19:26. My review is only of this particular book, but it must be taken in context with recent actions by Mr. Brinkley: More recently, he's featured on programs in which he assists people in contacting dead relatives. Being a "necromancer," one who talks with the dead to predict the future or doing sorcery or magic, is also Biblically forbidden: Deut. 18:11. Could the "Beings of Light" be fallen angels, demons masquerading as God`s Holy Angels? "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works." II Cor. 11:14-15

Bottom line? I have pressing concerns about possible departure from or omission of certain truths that Judeo-Christian readers, such as myself, may hold true. For this reason I can't give it five stars, but I still HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT, for there is much good in this, if the reader will read with a critical eye. Many of the things Dannion mentions are certainly true and supported by the Bible; and, he is a touching and authentic person, who admits his lack of full knowledge, his love for people, and his actions that demonstrate that love, a fine example for our beleaguered world today. GOD BLESS YOU, Dannion Brinkley!

Summary: Thought provking, incredible book
Review: Dannion Brinkley's book, Saved By The Light" is a truly, incredible, life-transforming book. I would say that after reading this book, which by the way, I could not put down until I finished it, Dannion was indeed "saved by the light". What I found so fascinating was the turn-around - the total turn around of his life. I had heard about life reviews before, but the impact for me, was that not only do we get to review our life, but also get to review how the other person felt whom we were hurting, whether it be conscious or unconscious. How our actions have a "ripple effect" in the world. I can only imagine what pain that must be. I was also especially moved by the messages that the book imparts, messages of God's love and kindness and forgiveness. These messages are old, yet they have spanned time and remain true today in the new millennium and I feel, are needed more than ever. Dannion's will to survive, and his peacefulness on accepting death helped me see that we are indeed much more than our human bodies. I commend him on his hospice work and sharing with us that death is a time for love and forgiveness. He shows us that death is a healing time for all families and that death is actually the beginning of our next life, our next adventure. Nothing to fear, but to embrace instead. The quote that most inspired me from the book from the Being of Light is, "What you are is the difference that God makes. And that difference is love." This is a book that needs to be passed on and on and on! I cannot recommend it enough. For those who have recently lost a love one, this book will provide immeasurable comfort for you.

Summary: Very Interesting
Review: Death is not a subject I usually like tor ead about. However, something intrigued me about the title one day at a bookstore and I gave it a glance. Ever the more curious, I made the purchase and was enamored by Mr. Brinkley's experiences.

Whereas I am a realist in most of my literary pursuits, I found Dannion Brinkley's descriptions of what he saw in the afterworld as quite thorough. Furthermore, I find it quite inspiring that he became a much better person from his ordeal.

Summary: Seeing a new world
Review: Elements in this book have proven to be a very important part of my understanding of life's purpose. You can't get it all from this book, but I think this work is very important to inner soul searching. If you believe in the afterlife to start, this can help you understand some of the meanings to a question most asked, "why are we here?" From this book, I think it is also very clear the things we do to others and contribute to this world in this temporary life, bad or good, will live on with us in the all important afterlife, and even affect our place there. After much pondering over aspects of Dannion's story, I found myself understanding this life of various hardships as very temporary, and realized, as he was told in his brief moment in the afterlife, this life on Earth is an opportunity to do something special, serving the purpose of creation and the creator. While we are all somewhat self absorbed as human nature has made us, it is not the things which we can bring ourselves that will ultimately create joy, but what we can give to others. As happened briefly in this story, the end time will come for all of us, and I believe as described in the story, we will review the events of our lives then. Life will have seemed like a brief moment, and in our moments of revisited human weaknesses, we will probably regret times will held back, or hurt others selfishly. Perhaps speaking for myself, though I know many do this as well these days, I will regret the moments I let fear and anxiety hold me back from certain things in life where I could have done more. I recommend you make this book part of your spiritual development. You may find different meanings and interpretations, but I suspect they will be helpful in any case. Ronald Reed Jackson

Summary: Very thought-provoking
Review: I don't know if Brinkley's story is true, but his description of his after-life experience really rang true for me. If there is an afterlife, I think it's as he describes - reliving your life, experiencing for yourself all the joy and pain you brought to others.

Summary: This book is truly spiritual, comforting and enlightening
Review: I found it hard to put the book down after I started reading it. I bought the book when it was first published. It helped me through the passing of my mother and grandmother. I feel the experience Danion had was real, and the love and the feeling of peace he returned with will stay with him forever. He endured so much pain to recieve the psychic gift that was given to him. I will never forget the gift he has given me in publishing this book. I have loaned my book to others who have had passings of loved ones hoping it will comfort them as it did me and I ask them to pass on the information of his book to others as well. Danion probably didn't know that he has created a chain of love and inspiration to many people with his book. I will always treasure mine for ever.

Summary: Shed light on a new meaning of life.
Review: I had received this book from my Physics teacher. It had taken me 2 years to actually start reading this book. I had no idea what impact it would have made on me then.

I am currently 18 years of age as I am writing this, and this book has changed the way I approach life and think about others. Subjects such as death, hope, and forgivness give this book a nice mood throughout its journey.

It begins with Dannion, the author, talking on the telephone with one of his business parnters. He gets struck by lighting and enters a mysterious spirtual realm. At first, he does not know where he is, or whether the lightning bolt has killed him. The fact finally comes to him when he his hovering over his fried body, that he is in another place. He embarks on a colorful journey to better his not-so-good past life. The spiritual worlds that he travels about are very visually descriptive and delightful. He finally gets sent back to earth, telling everyone about his near death experience and begins his mission.

I think is an excellent book for all ages. It will change you for the better, and you will appreciate it.

Summary: Don't accept anything at face value
Review: I have not read this book. I understand, however, that the author claims to have been a Marine Corps sniper in Vietnam sent to assassinate enemy leaders. This claim is exposed in the book Stolen Valor by Burkett and Whitely as unsupported by military personnel records. According to Burkett, Brinkley's records show that he was a USMC truck driver who never left the states and contain no evidence that he received any of the training that would have resulted in an assignment as a sniper or in covert operations.
