Rating: Summary: It's a Good Book Review: People who read Rick Pitino's Success is a Choice book will find it to be a pretty well-written motivational book. In the book, Pitino bases his success around 10 simple steps, in which he explains in a detailed manner that we all can understand. Pitino's book gave me a clue on how to go about long-term success and also on how to keep it. He explains that once you reach your goals, to look back at the steps you took to get there.
Rating: Summary: Now everyone can have Pitino as coach! Review: At first glance, the book "Success is a Choice" seems to be just another informative guide to success. To a degree, this is true, but reading the book in this way does not reveal its true potential: The real power of the book is not as a passive informative piece of literature, but as an active companion which guides and motivates you through your projects. Putting it simply: "Success is a Choice" is a coach. It is full of motivation talk as well as constructive criticism that Coach Pitino gave to his players in real situations. It also lists and analyzes quite a few Pitino's own mistakes and fumbles, and this gives you the feeling of candid nonpatronizing approach. In short - this book is the next best thing to having Coach Pitino himself by your side, coaching you to success... and the guy sure is a great coach! The only bad thing I can say about this book, is that it doesn't look like a coaching book at first glance. As stated in the beginning of this review, the book seems to be just another "success guide", and I suspect this prevents many readers to realize its full potential. Overall, a highly recommended book for anyone who wants to get gain more control over their lives.

Rating: Summary: Gives you the chance to make the choices without preeching. Review: I am an 18 year old high school senior preparing to graduate and go to college. The idea of the "I'm okay, your okay" self help book disgusts me, and that fact made me skeptical to read the book at first. But the attitude presented by Pitino is like no other that I have ever seen. He places a heavy value on being positive and making attainable goals. Pitino makes everybody feel like they are important and will succeed. He never bad mouths or makes you think negatively. Even if you have never followed basketball, this book will help you in ways you may have never thought possible.
Rating: Summary: Achieving goal is not so difficult if you..... Review: I highly appreciate this book. It is well organized. It explains the ideas step by step with lots of examples, so that you can understand easily. The summary at the end of each chapter also help you to have deep impression on each point. The most touching me and persuade me to believe in the points made by the author is that, there are some third-parties who experienced the methods/concept, shared their feeling with us. They told us how they using the method or concept to achieve their goal. I really believed that if we follow the concept and steps mentioned by the book, it is not so difficult for us to achieve our goal.
Rating: Summary: Practical, Encouraging, and Motivating... Review: I overly enjoyed reading Rick's practical philosophy of basketball, business, and life. The whole emphasis of taking charge of your circumstances through hard work and determination....ultimately pays off. It at least will make one a better person. Being a basketball fan, I found his real life stories, interesting and encouraging. One can easily see how Rick's principles helped him develop winning basketball programs throughout his career and the book showed his genuine caring attitude toward his players. I especially like the end of chapter summaries, and the summary at the end of the book. The one thing I did not like about the book was the testimonies after each chapter that to me tried to show to the world a "how great I am" attutude. I certainly do not know Rick and this attitude did not come across through reading the chapters of the book, but I got this impression from the testimonials. Otherwise; a wonderful easy-reading, motivational book!
Rating: Summary: Need a change in your life? Review: If you have ever struggled, Pitino will guide you through overcoming adversity and growing from the experience. If you haven't struggled, you probably haven't tasted success, and he will help you seek out challenges relevant to your dreams.
Rating: Summary: Order 10 of these for your friends! Review: It's an understatement to say I loved this book. I've seen Rick Pitino speak live on the subject 'embracing success' and never realized what a small part of him that touches on. You'll want multiple copies of this book to give to co-workers and friends. It's an easy read, but the kind of book you'll want to read many times to refresh your resolve! It's a must-read for any manager/leader and for high-achievers. I've already passed it on to several employees and will ensure every fellow manager at my work gets the chance to share in it. It's the kind of book, and Pitino's the kind of man you will find yourself quoting alot! Now if only he was a hockey coach....
Rating: Summary: Ten Steps To Overachieving In Business Review: Rick Pitino's book on how to overachieve in the business world is nothing that anybody with any common sense hasn't heard before. The book was written because Pitino is trying to tell his story of his basketball career. He will make a germane point with the first paragraph at the beginning of the chapter, and then will belabor the simple point into 20 pages. This is a good book to read, buy you don't need to read the whole thing, you need to read the first few points of the chapter, where Pitino makes his point, and the summary of the main points at the end of the chapter, and you will learn just as much as somebody who read the whole book. It is a decent piece of literature, but combined with a biography of Pitino's career makes the entire work way to redundant.
Rating: Summary: this book will change your life Review: Success is a Choice is a book I wish I had read years ago. Oh wait, actually I did. My dad thrust it into my hands the summer before my junior year of college, which was six years ago. Coming away with a renewed "can-do" attitude and all the sense that this book made, I returned to school that fall weighing ten pounds less and committed to studying harder and making better grades.
At that time, I had much different goals than I do today. Reading it then, I had little clue about the corporate world and couldn't truly identify with those success-sabotaging scenarious Pitino describes that we can often let happen to us in the workplace. I am so thankful I decided to once again return to this incredible book for a refresher course in self-motivation and overachievement. Now as a young working adult faced directly with new challenges, I am so much more appreciative of what Pitino is talking about.
In today's environment Pitino's ideas are needed more than ever. I wish this book could somehow be re-introduced and read by all the good citizens of the world. I wish that even those who read it when it was first published would read it again. This book is empowering and dynamic. Through reading it and choosing to closely follow its principles, your life and the lives of those around you REALLY CAN dramatically change for the better.
