Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: "Tough Love" - And Highly Recommended Review: I listened to this abridged version of the audio cassette (which is why I didn't give it 5 stars - I wanted to hear the entire lecture)and, at times, it made me very uncomfortable. I felt most uneasy when Dr. Myss suggested keeping a journal of all the lies you've told for a month - the little 'white' lies as well as any whoppers. I haven't done it yet because I'm not sure I have the gumption to see all the untruths I speak over 30 days. However, she gives an example of how to be honest without being brutal with someone - and still honor your spiritual contract of honesty with God. So I think I'll try her suggestions and THEN count the times I'm actually untruthful! In the end, though, this no-nonsense spiritual session actually left me relieved about the way my life is going. By emphasizing that everything you do in your life (no matter how small and humble it seems) is a necessary component of your spiritual path as well as a contribution to the world at large, Dr. Myss gives sacred meaning to all the 'simple' things in life. This tape is a must for anyone who feels they're not doing anything important in life or who feels their life is worthless. In fact, Dr. Myss points out that life is supposed to be depressing at times, that even thoughts of suicide are to be expected in life's darkest moments that are sure to come and go. And, she points out, these dark moments DO eventually leave as she gives suggestions for how to move through these hollow times and emerge stronger and more faithful than before. I disagree with Dr. Myss on only one point. While she stresses the importance of gratitude, she states it only counts if we express gratitude during the hard times in our lives. She seems to imply that gratitude comes too easily to matter when things in our lives are going as we want them to. Personally, I believe expressing gratitude for receiving or experiencing the things we want is just as important. Too many times, people take their good fortune for granted. It seems unsual for her to say expressing gratitude doesn't count unless we're miserable when we do. Other than that and the fact that I know it was actually a three-hour lecture whittled down to a 90-minute cassette, I find this tape an incredibly illuminating and unique take on being a spiritual being in a human form. I know I'll listen to it again and again.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Life Changing, Amazingly Insightful Review: I've just finished listening to the tape set called Spiritual Madness by Caroline Myss. I can do nothing less than to thank God for the amazing insights that she gives. The information is fresh - I haven't heard any of our "spiritual leaders" speak so openly before. This tape set was definitely NOT watered down for the masses. It's an "in your face", honest challenge to get real with your spirituality, and throw the rest away. Caroline speaks at such a deep level of spirituality, and she says it all so bluntly (which I love - nothing mushy gushy, nothing to make you feel more comfortable). It's fascinatingly refreshing to listen to. Every sentence has a new insight. Every sentence is heavy with meaning and direction for our lives. I've only listened once, but know that I'll have to listen many more times as I continue along my own spiritual path. Caroline gives us many insights about why we are here, and how we've got so many wrong ideas about what life is really all about, and how we need to improve how we run our lives. She paints a detailed picture of God, and of what to do during our earthly existance. And she gives fascinating real-life examples of true spirituality that support what she says. It will make you realize that everything you've done in life so far is nothing compared to where you could go in your future, but your future probably has no relation to everything that you've got planned. She cautions us against spiritual superstition, against wanting spiritual power for the wrong reasons, and against thinking that OUR plans for our spirituality can somehow override what God wants for us. If you haven't hear it yet, I would highly recommend it. But I'm not sure absolutely everybody is ready for it yet.

Review: SPIRITUAL MADNESS Caroline Myss If you are living aspiritual life, it is inevitable that one day you will be plunged intodarkness, what Saint John of the Cross described as "the dark night of the soul." Through the ages, every mystic has experienced this interior trial. What of today's "modern mystics," who seek the divine while holding down jobs and caring for their families? On Spiritual Madness,Dr. Caroline Myss describes a path for the modern mystic, a way open to people from all walks of life who seek the first step toward true mystical experience. Mystics of past ages, Dr. Myss begins, generally retreated from society. In solitude they sought to achieve freedom from the self and unity with God through prayer and meditation. Today, spiritual seekers are faced with conflicts no monk ever faced, leading to a "dark night" unique to our age. This deep and rich "madness" is an inescapable part of the contemporary mystical journey. Join Dr. Myss as she uncovers the roots of mystical experience, both ancient and modern, and reveals: The true reason we invite God into our lives Why spiritual intimacy can lead to chaos in our personal world Four questions "crucial to your spiritual direction" that therapists never ask How mystical experience translates into everyday life in our time The truth about spiritual powers such as clairvoyance, healing, and bi-locating A way to end spiritual confusion with a simple, honest prayer PLUS many self-teaching exercises and practices for daily life Spiritual Madnessis a unique and daring session that reaches to the borderland of spiritual experience, where the inner mysteries of the divine are fully opened in the outer world of career and family. Caroline Myss, Ph.D. is a pioneer in the field of energy medicine and human consciousness. She holds degrees in journalism, theology, and intuition and energy medicine. Over the past decade, her work with Norman Shealy, M.D., a Harvard-trained neurosurgeon and founder of the American Holistic Medical Association, has helped define how stress and emotion contribute to the formation of disease. She is the coauthor, with Dr. Shealy, of The Creation of Health and author of Anatomy of the Spirit and Why People Don't Heal and How They Can.

Review: The problem of suffering for someone on the path of seeking G-d is a challenging and confusing one. Caroline Myss has done something extraordinary in that she has opened the door to understanding what kinds of pain the modern seeker of G-d must encounter and why, and what to expect and what to do with it. This is all in a modern language that calms and heals the soul, and imparts extraordinary hope. This is simply one of the ten best books/tapes/teachings on the life of the spirit I have ever encountered. For those tired of the traditional religious view of "life is a valley of tears (so just put up with it)", or "your faith isn't strong enough or you wouldn't be suffering", or "you'll be rewarded in the next world", and the rest of the un-helpful messages that might have spoken to an older world or era, but doesn't speak to ours, I STRONGLY encourage you to listen to this tape, again and again and again. It is one of those RARE pearls that changes your life forever.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Outstanding guidance to help you make sense of the confusion Review: This is my favorite work by Myss because it helped me make sense of the confusion in my world. I had thought that following a spiritual path would make my life run smoother, that I would find my daily life full of little rewards because I chose to be "spiritual." But it didn't work out that way, and Myss explains why. Now, when my life gets messy or confusing, when the very things I don't want appear, I hear the wise and kind words of Myss in her soothing voice reminding me that these situations show me the presence of the Divine in the most profound way. I'm forever grateful to her for this work.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: GREAT! Review: This is one of the BEST tape series I have ever listened to. I have listened to it again & again for almost two years when feeling out of sorts about the direction of my life and every time I hear something new. It has helped me get right back on track. There is so much information in these two tapes that it makes it worth much more than the price. A perfect addition to any tape collection!
