Rating: Summary: Sine Qua Non Review: Peggy Huddleston's book was the single most important factor in helping me through surgery. My procedure, aortic valve replacement, was a complete success thanks largely to great doctors and the preparation I brought to the experience from reading Peggy's book and listening to her tape. The staff at New York Hospital were totally agreeable to the preparation steps divised by the author. Their response was that a motivated patient with a plan was more likely to have a successful recovery. I read the book, listened to the tape before, during, and after surgery and participated in her support group system. Thank you Peggy. Your advice enabled me to endure and recover.
Rating: Summary: Packed with excellent suggestions Review: This book and tape really got me through my surgery. Many wonderful suggestions for preparing yourself mentally and physically. I used the tape on the way to the hospital and post-surgically to relax. It is also really helpful for falling asleep even after you have healed. A great, great book and tape.

Rating: Summary: Do not buy this book if you are seeking medical information. Review: This book contains no scientific medical information. It is directed at the new-age reader and consists almost entirely of anecdotal "evidence" to support its claims. If you think nothing is wrong with talking to your diseased organs AND getting an answer, then this book may be for you. Otherwise, the book is one long, repetitive pitch to buy the author's audio tape.
Rating: Summary: An extremely helpful tool for entering surgery with optomism Review: This book helped me prepare to undergo major surgery with a sense of participation and control. If you're going to face surgery, the use of the accompanying audio tape is essential for maximim success, but just following the five steps of preparation listed in the book is a great help. I underwent serious abdominal surgery, had very little blood loss, used half the amount of pain meds usually prescribed, and went home in 72 hours. Every surgeon should know about this book, and every person undergoing surgery, who wishes to thrive, should take a look at this one.
Rating: Summary: Read the book, used the tape, had a great recovery! Review: This is an important book! Peggy Huddleston tells you how to use relaxation methods and visualization of your outcomes (for surgery and recovery - or chemotherapy) in a very straightforward, practical way. She also tells you how to approach your surgeon and anesthesiologist before surgery, what kinds of questions to ask them, and how to get them to help ensure a positive outcome/recovery by using healing statements during surgery and post-op. Most of the pieces of Peggy's method may seem familiar, but no one has put them in one place as such an easy to use guide. I used the book and tape prior to major surgery, got out of the hospital (my choice) in 1 day, and took no pain meds after 1 day at home because I felt so good. It worked for me.
