Rating: Summary: This is IT!!! Review: I've been searching for a good quality book and to find my TRUE purpose in life. Thanks to The Purpose Driven Life, I have found it.Thank you Rick Warren. God Bless You.
Rating: Summary: Very inspiring book Review: This book inspired me to repel satan and get closer to God. After reading and completing the first chapter, I found my life's purpose and am now living it. Great book.
Rating: Summary: Ignoe those 1 star reviews Review: All those 1 star reviews proove is that prisons and mental isntitutions allow liberal use of the internet for their inmates/patients. Do not believe that anyone of substance, anyone of high moral value or any good christian would write this garbage. The Purpose Driven Life is a five star book all the way and judging by how it is doing in book stores, it is still the #4 best selling book in American and the World. Great book. Highly recommended. Even good for the mentally deranged, criminals in prisons and satan worshipers...as long as they want to change.
Rating: Summary: The Purpose Driven Life #4 best selling book in America! Review: According to reputable polls based on actual books sales and conducted by book stores. This book is still kicking (...). Notice those anti-Bush books come and go but this book stands firm! Great book Rick. Looking forward to your next foray!
Rating: Summary: Interesting opinion. But..what happened to those 5* reviews? Review: Everyone has the right to their opinion of course, even if it is way off base if not borderline slanderous like the 1 star reviews posted here but my real question is, what happened to all of those five star reviews that were here a little over a month ago? When those five star reviews got deleted this book (at least here at Amazon) dropped not only in the star rating (from 5 stars to 4) but the book ranking dropped from #2 (where it still stands by reputable polls) to now #20. And of course the value-oriented words of those who believe in God and practice his word has been eliminated also violating our rights of free speech. Something is very wrong here at Amazon and I know that this is not the only book here at Amazon that it has happened to. My question is, why have a review board with voting rights if only certain reviews and votes get counted? Doesn't make any sense. I can now see why so many people have left Amazon (in droves) and why so many shareholders are dumping the stock. Perhaps this sole 1 star reviewer is too concerned with trying to sell his self published books or promoting anti-Bush books (which by the way have been proven to contain false information from basically fired or disgruntled former Bush people with an agenda and no facts) to consider the word of God valuable. If anything, this guy needs this book more than anybody! So Amazon, I am going to join the rest and ask as they have "What in God's name happened to all of those 5 star reviews? Why were they deleted and why only 5 star reviews and not 1 star reviews??" Hmmmmmm??????????
Rating: Summary: Why were the 5 star reviews deleted? Review: Still no answer on that one. Why did Amazon delete the five star reviews? Just to help out that pathetic devil worshipping self publisher who has no social life? Easy to see why so many people have left this board and why so many investors are leaving the stock. Amazon better get it together before it is too late.
Rating: Summary: A missed opportunity, unfortunately Review: I was sad to discover that I could not write this book a unequivocally good review. The truth is that a book like this is exactly what our culture needs right now. We have forgotten as a people the truth that God created each and every one of us for a purpose, and that we fulfill that purpose by prayerfully living his will. I must start by listing the things I liked about the book. a) The author of the book tries to be inclusive, saying at one point that people are called to a deeper relationship with Christ in different ways. He lists the ways most common for Christians to grow closer to Christ, and includes the liturgy, which impressed me given the author's background. b) The book is packed full of scripture references. c) The questions at the end of each chapter are truly thought provoking. d) It is accessibly written. e) This topic is THE answer to the misery faced by those who don't believe that their lives have purpose. f) The book acknowledges that to get to Heaven one must not only have faith, but one must strive to do God's will in their life as well. However, to my mind these strengths do not make up for the book's many weaknesses. a) While the author tries to be inclusive, the theology he often relies on is weak. People sympathetic with the teachings of the early church, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and most protestants will find "Day 2's" simplistic view of predestination laughable. Furthermore, the author states that Christ called us to "love our fellow believers," but the author does not emphasize love for everyone. This is at best a half truth and at worst a lie. Christ called us to love each other. Remember that whole "love your enemies" thing... He meant that. Worse still, Warren states in the book that there are specific ways to "treat unbelievers..." He doesn't enumerate those ways. I don't know about Rick Warren, but when I read the Gospel I get the sense that Christ was not interested in his followers treating others in any way but through love, believers and unbelievers alike. b) The questions at the end of each chapter, while thought provoking, are sometimes designed to lead people in the wrong direction. See the above c) The writing style, while accessible, can be downright simplistic. I tend to be less sympathetic towards authors I feel are insulting me. d) While the book is full of scripture references, the translations the author uses are usually very poor. The vast majority of the time Warren depends on the most biased and unacademic paraphrases on the market. While it does not occur often, there are times when the original meaning of a scripture verse is obscured by the fact that Warren has taken a verse out of context, or has used a biased paraphrase. As a result of these weaknesses Warren's goal is subverted. It is my hope that a more ecumenically minded author can approach this issue in a way that is more effective for more people. Reading a true master like C.S. Lewis would be an excellent way to start.
Rating: Summary: Good job, Rick, you done good! Review: As I was reading the publishing page in the front of the book in preparation for this review, I noticed that the hardbound copy is printed on acid free paper. I know why the publisher went to extra effort and expense in printing this book- it simply is a modern masterpiece of devotional literature that you will keep for a lifetime. My first copy of The Purpose Driven Life, was audio. Each morning as I walked my dog along the river, I would listen to another chapter. Almost immediately I realized that the audio book was the wrong format for me. Rick's insights into scripture are so good that I wanted to read them again and again. Three weeks later, I bought a hardbound copy. For pastors, this book is a must. To be sure, it is pretty basic stuff; but Rick's genius is to communicate the basics in a very delightful and insightful way. As I listened on my MP3 player, I kept trying to make mental notes, saying to myself, That stuff will really preach. For a pastor, there is a years worth of sermon ideas and outlines you will be able to expound on. Most devotional books I find to be disappointing, so much so, I gave up reading them. I am sure glad that I gave Rick a chance. Every Sunday I beg my congregation to purchase this book, telling them that it will give them a foundation to build their Christian life. By the way, I was especially appreciative of Ricks use of multiple translations in his quoting of Scripture. It gives the reader (or hearer) a fresh perspective on already familiar passages. Good job, Rick, you done good!
Rating: Summary: * * * * * I concur w/ all the 5-star ratings! * * * * * Review: You'll be excited to take the steps in living a life of purpose - God's purpose - a Purpose Driven Life. Blessings to you and yours to living according to His will.
Rating: Summary: Simply life-changing!!! Review: For one that's searched unknowingly in all the wrong places, I was enlightened with true understanding of His purpose, and excited to act on the simple yet in depth instructions on how to live a Purpose Driven Life. Best of all, you'll find that it all makes sense. I recommend having both hardcover & CD versions of PDL. The print copy is great w/ the scripture reference in the back along w/ the different translations used. The CD is a must-have for the mobility of popping it into the car while stuck in traffic and for the times when your eyes are just tired and only have the energy to listen. Each time I experienced the latter, I suddenly have the energy to open the book and follow along w/ my highlighter in hand. ***** Great companion to your Bible. *****
