Rating: Summary: Still # 4 book in America & The World Review: While those anti-Bush books start off great and then fall sharply, The Purpose Driven Life continues to be a top seller. Still in the top five and positively impacting the lives of millions. Considering the garbage that is coming out in the form of books, the nonsense going on in the world. Certain government officials who wer used to trust and are turning out to be frauds RE: A certain democrat governor in Ct, not to mention a recalled governor in the state of Cal-E-Fornia, a former president who was more worried about the penthouse than the white house and his vice president who got lost in the white house recently despite spending 8 years there. The war that is taking many lives. A insane leader named Osama bin Laden who must be brought to justice ala Sadam Hussein. Eveil doers, devil worshippers etc. There never has been a better time for this book than right now. I'm gald to see that it is stillin the top four. I only hope that it makes it back to #1 and that people use the information herein. This is Gods word presented by Rick Warren. A great book.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding book - 5 stars all the way .... A masterpiece Review: I have read a lot of books on goal setting and personal achievement. I have also read a lot of good christian books, but never have I read as outstanding a book as this great work by Rick Warren. In The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren has written a masterpiece of incredible wisdom and wise counsel for you. AND remember....this is not Rick Warrens opinion, it is God's word.
Rating: Summary: Ignore those devil worshipping 1 star reviewers-5 stars!!!! Review: Do not pay attention to those low 1 star reviews on this book. All those 1 star reviews proove is that mental institutions, jails, prisons and federal penitentaries allow liberal use of the internet for their patients and prisoners. It also prooves that devil worshippers know how to use the internet as well. Rick Warren is a man of purpose. The Purpose Driven Life is a book about purpose. N0 REAL CHRISTIAN OR ANYONE WITH HIGH MORAL VALUES would write the garbage 1 star reviews like you see here. People of purpose and people of real substance are the five star reviewers while the 1 star reviewers are people of real substance abuse! The Purpose Driven Life is still the #4 best selling book in America and the World, has been for quite some time and will continue for a lot longer. Good book - highly recommended. Especially for those of real purpose and of real substance. Mental patients, criminals, devil worshippers and substance abusers can also benefit from this great book but only if they want to change.
Rating: Summary: Good reviews, BUT..What happened to the 5 star reviews???? Review: I too noticed an inordinate amount of five star reviews that were deleted from this board. While I don't know when it happened, they were here around the end of February and were gone this week. Why did you guys delete the five star reviews, especally the ones that were here for awhile and had over 100 helpful votes? Is someone at Amazon trying to manipulate the ratings? It sure looks that way.
Rating: Summary: Grounded in Spirit or Ego? Review: The Purpose Driven Life is a very well written book grounded in Scripture. It includes many interpretations that would seem to be quite helpful to many on their own spiritual journey. But, it only goes halfway to the full truth. From my perspective it is written by one who is still essentially centered in ego and not Spirit. Its appeal is more to ego and than to Spirit. It seeks to help our egos find a kind of satisfaction in discovering purpose. Rather than thinking that the teaching this book contains is the current "be all end all" regarding the living of a surrendered and spiritual life, it would be more helpful to be aware that it represents a more mid-level stage of faith. Anytime writing focuses upon the separation between God and people, it in essence focuses upon the separation between Spirit and ego. Obedience is a word that appeals to ego. It is a way for the ego to gain temporary satisfaction by attempting to reach some worthy goal. This kind of focus does not address the crucial thing required to bring about what Jesus emphasized, which is being born again (perceiving the world with a new mind and heart) or becoming One with Spirit. This can only happen with a full surrender of ego... the death of ego. Ego loves goals. Ego loves obedience. This kind of book, while it represents a legitimate step along the spiritual path, will not lead one to transcend their false self (ego) to ultimately find their True Self... which is Oneness with God... which is egolessness. The True Self can be known in this life, we do not have to wait until we reach "heaven." Finding the True Self is truly a coming home. Rather than feeling out of place anymore, one who has been awakened to their True Self will feel that they have come home... that they have discovered fully the "peace that passeth all understanding," and the "abundant life" now. The search will have ended and what remains is practice and presence. One will know this as a consistent sense of Peace and of Unconditional Love toward all creation. If one senses a deep hunger, a frustration with life, and a deep desire to continue to seek, they can know that their ego is alive and well and that they have not surrendered all.
Rating: Summary: Oh! Come On!! Review: This book is great if it's for elementary school kids or younger. From day 6 on, I started to feel the author is talking to young children who don't have enough life experience yet. I totally felt that the author insulted readers' intellegent by writing such an over-simpleminded book about God and life purpose. Don't buy this book if you are older than 10 years old!! I just couldn't believe that this book claims it's the #1 New York Times bestseller??!! I think we need to do the re-count!!!
Rating: Summary: I'm a conservative Christian and I disliked this book Review: First, let me say that the book has good intentions, but poor theological teaching. Warren often quotes scripture from multiple translations, using paraphrased scripture to make his point. If a particular translation does not fit his point, he finds another tranlsation that will. This is a dangerous way of using scripture to say your own words. There is also a prosperity gospel flavor to his work. Christian life and success is not simply about being moral and treating fellow Christians well. Warren focuses on fellowship of believers, but not on humble Christian attitude toward the world, poor, and suffering. I have heard many "It changed my life!" claims about this book, and I am wary. It has become a mass/pop culture phenomenon, one of those quick feel-good books without much thoughtful or reflective humbleness. Wait a few years and its popularity will probably fade, and the same audience will be searching for another Christian feel-good fix. It is a very popular book at the moment, and that's great for Warren. I'm glad his book is doing well. But I would just caution Christian readers to think/read critically and understand this book's role in Christian pop culture.
Rating: Summary: A good read Review: I just bought this great yesterday at Sam's club and already halfway though it. Great Book. I can't wait to finish it!
Rating: Summary: So simple stupid Review: This book was incredible!! It truly pointed out how difficult WE MAKE being a Christian. I just kept thinking, "so simple stupid". I was very impressed with how deep each short and simple chapter could be. If read, as one chapter per day, as recommended, you will be amazed at the revelations that surface. I really enjoyed the large scripture base as well as the different translations being used. Chapter 31 & 32 were my ephipany chapters. I read this alone about 6 months ago and am anxious to begin the study we are having church wide on this book. This book clearly emphasizes the need for us to step out of our comfort level, stop making excuses and realize while salvation is free for the asking, Jesus did clearly define what we are supposed to be doing as living disciples for Christ.
