Summary: Looking for your purpose in life? Read this book!
Review: What a great book Pastor Rick Warren has written! Our church is a Purpose Driven church and recently went through the 40 Days of Purpose together as a congregation. Pastor Warren has such practical applications of how to pursue a daily walk with God through fellowship, discipleship, worship, ministry and evangelism. A must read for any Christian who wants to deepen and strengthen their relationship with God.

Review: Ricks book has been a real eye opener for me and my wife of 14 years, we found so much insite and wisdom in it that we're now reading it over for the second time to take notes and put some of the principals into action.

Thank God for this Man!

Summary: POWERFUL
Review: I had this book for a month or so before I decided to read it, now I can't put it down. I have shared quotes from this book with my family and Church members. This book made me understand myself and a whole new way. One of my favorite parts is when he talks about Being Content With Your Weaknesses, that whenever you feel weak, God is reminding you to depend on him.I also liked the chapter about using what God gave you. I love this book. If I could give it ten stars I would. This book is a must for a person that looking for spiritual directions. God bless you.

Summary: Changed Lives
Review: My entire church went through this book, a chapter a day for 40 days... with almost 1,000 Bible references, it was a devotional, a Bible Study, and a call to let God change your life... all in one. It literally DID change lives within our church. A must-read.

Summary: A LIFE-CHANGING BOOK ABOUT LIFE'S PURPOSE
Review: Pastor Rick speaks as to who we are, what we are, why we are here and our life's purpose for being here on earth. This is the most important book I own after the Bible. Thank you for your love and dedication Pastor Rick. (jmg, OC CA)

Summary: We all know this
Review: This book is of course aiming at self fullfilment through a spiritual walk with God. The purpose filled life in this book can be defined two different ways.

They both are the same but number 1 is as follows,

1) In god we strive to better ourselves by reaching out to a hope or faith that god exists to guide us through life, teaching us the way to higher ground. In that there is a desire to seek out a better physical life as well, materialism, housing , so forth. Sex and family is also included to repopulate the earth. These things give humans a sentiment of purpose.

Notice how a search for purpose in life from an evolutionary point of view.

Self preservation, shelter, and to better our shelter. The search for food and finding better ways to obtain food. A human nature to bond with one another in social desire. Then sex and family, all very similar and really exactly what this book conveys. Try reading Karl Maddox on this very same subject, a truly purposed filled life does exist, either way.

Summary: Poises Age-Old Question With Biblical Poignancy
Review: Focused on Scripture, Rick Warren's "Purpose-Driven Life" is not unlike Richard Bolles' spiritual goals' section of "What Color Is Your Parachute," except that Bolles wants to help the reader find a fulfilling job, and Warren wants the reader to find meaning in their life.

Unlike Tolle, Zukav, Myss and other popular self-help writers, Rick Warren unapologetically confirms he believes that Jesus Christ is God, and that, fundamentally, we are here to serve and worship him. This clarity of belief counters some of these modern writers' assertions that God is whomever you decides he or she shall be. His stance toward Christ is bound to offend nonChristians, but they most likely will not be customers of the book.

In fact, as you read, it is imperative to have your Bible next to you, and a notepad next to that. Don't be surprised if through reading you have a lot of "Aha!" moments, as you connect with things you may have long forgotten.

Fans of John Maxwell will find kinship in Warren's mission of practicality and approach.

Learn what are the basics of purposes before God, and what this means to the everyday Christian. In the current surge of openness among Americans to consider their own Christian upbringing, Warren presents that Jesus Christ alone can provide the security and structure of a fulfilled life, that Christ should be the purpose. He is careful not to sound monkish, and is clear as he describes that we live in this world.

He covers:
* Worship
* Fellowship
* Discipleship
* Ministry
* Mission

Unfortunately, the book is limited by its workshop tone. Like so many other self-help books, it seems as if the writer is promoting his seminars and brand name. In fact, the book is widely available for use in post-seminar small groups. This distraction, however, needs to be set aside as the reader asks the question, "Do I know who I am, do I know why I am here today, and do I know where I'm going?" Warren helps sort through the muck, and guide the reader toward discovering both the need for a purpose, and the purpose itself. This stuff matters, and this book can help get you there.

I fully recommend "Purpose-Driven Life" by Rick Warren.

Summary: Clearest description of the life God intends for all of us
Review: This is an absolutely phenomenal book. Clear, convincing, and full of conviction, this book is the "Mere Christianity" for the 21st Century. It is filled with biblical wisdom on real worship, discipleship, fellowship, salvation, service, and mission. Rick Warren's simple and straightforward writing style presents profound truths in very understandable terms. I wish every Christian, every seminary student, and every pastor could read this, and more important, apply its truths. I intend to make it required reading for all my students.

Summary: I am compelled to be a more productive person...
Review: because of this book. I just could not put it down. It told me that the more I learn to care about myself and strive to understand my purpose the more out of life I can get. This book was very enlightening to me. Another book that has a similar theme is Dreams: Gateway to the True Self. This book focuses on a direct relationship between your life, your dreams, your desires, and your actions being a catalyst for you next productive step in life. I loved both and recommend them to anyone.

Summary: I wanted to give it 5 stars!
Review: I have been waiting for years for this book to be written. I knew that Warren, or someone else, would write a book with this title and with this focus. Not only had I been waiting for years, I had hoped it would be a great book. However, it is not all that I had hoped it would be.

Warren has given us some very good information, but it is not all good. In fact, one item may be tragic. In the reading for the seventh day, Warren shares what is required to become a Christian - at least he tries to do so. He quotes one Scripture and directs the reader in a simple prayer. Then he proclaims that the reader is now a Christian. The sadness I felt came from the fact that Warren excludes the necessity of repentance from the salvation experience. This message, although probably unintentionally, does not match the clear teaching of Scripture. In this instance, the reader may be misled at a most crucial juncture in life. If you were thinking of giving this book to a non-Christian friend, please do not choose this book.

I sincerely hope that Warren will revise this section in subsequent editions of this book.

I really had hoped this book would be worthy of five stars. I cannot, with good conscience, give it more than two stars. I would recommend J.I. Packer's book "God's Plans for You" as a good alternative to Warren's book.
