Rating: Summary: I found it! Review: I had been searching for a quality book and this is it. Based on scriptures, this book helped me find my life purpose and I highly recommend it to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Searching Review: I liked the book but it was repetitive in a lot of ways. I guess we are all searching for an answer that will not be given until we are gone.
Rating: Summary: Very impressive book - definitely a must read Review: This book was recommended to me by one of our church leaders who in turn had it recommended to him by our minister. Anyone who is a bonifide christian and has practiced faithfully christian principles (not those who quickly pervuse a bible and few other religion based books to write nasty review and try to appear knowledgeable) will understand the value of this incredible book by Rick Warren.Other books I recommend are "The Traveling Light", "The Prayer of Jabez" and "The Case for Christ."
Rating: Summary: Not groundbreaking Review: I picked up this book upon the recommendation of many friends. This book might be helpful for new Christians, or those who prefer an easy to read, repetitive approach to Christianity. For those looking for a deeper Christian experience, or thoughtful reading that challenges you - I would encourage you to look elsewhere. Personally I like books by Brian McLaren much better (favorite being "More Ready than you Realize." I couldn't stand this book anymore after reading about 1/3 of it.
Rating: Summary: If you don't get it, it's because you don't get it Review: Rick Warren is a special messenger to an unchurched generation. This book was not written for the life long Bible scholar nor the 50 year Sunday School attendee, (though both were blessed by it in my church). Warren has written a wonderful and practical introduction to the Christian life for those who haven't had much background (most americans) or who are tired of the high brow vocabulary and elitism of many in today's church. His writing style is easy and warm. His sentence structure short and to the point. His use of scripture is topical and relevant and rarely forced. While he used a wide variety of translations, I find Warren's theology to be solid and well grounded. The book has sold more copies than Billy Graham's autobiography because it helps people to get a handle on what God is all about and why a relationship with Jesus Christ matters. If you are a long time Christian and don't understand why the book has been so successful, then you need to read it again through the eyes of an unchurched society. The Purpose Driven Life is reaching millions with the Truth in a way that many of our churches are not. We would all do well to try and figure out why God is so powerfully using what we would deem so simple. If you're not yet a Christian or new to the church, I would highly recommend this book to you as a wonderfully readable introduction to an authentic relationship with God.
Rating: Summary: A blueprint for christian living Review: The Purpose-Driven Life is a blueprint for christian living in the 21st century---a lifestyle based on God's eternal purposes, not cultural values. Using over 1,200 scriptural quotes and references, it challenges the conventional definitions of worship, fellowship, desclipleship, ministry, and evangelism. I have the book as well as the cd. This is a program that you will want to read and re-read, listen to and re-listen to over and over. It will be a classic treasured by generations to come. My personal testimonial is that I have been following the program for just under 40 days and feel renewed. Some people have written in their reviews that they have a problem with Rick Warren because he recommends going to church. Say what! People don't want to attend church? Any church? They can go to the movies, but can't go to church? Can spend hours on the internet bashing good, quality books like this one, but can't find the time to go to church? Well I think that speaks for itself.
Rating: Summary: The Bottom Line... Review: I'm reading these other reviews that people are leaving, and for those who did not find this book helpful or irrelevant to their life, or for the person who says they'll look to Islam, you've missed the point. sheesh, I guess you all must have reached nirvana and are living in a state of Godly perfection where there is no need for improvement anymore. (haha yeah right) What Mr. Warren is trying to get across to the readers is that basically we need to put God's work first (the purpose he set for each of us) before anything. If we take care of His business, He'll look after ours, and that goes for any denomination that has Christ as their Lord and Savior. Some people say that that this book is too easy and simple to read, and that's a problem??? God isn't some complex being that is unreachable or needs for us to dig deep and solve a cryptic puzzle to "get it". If He WANTS us to find Him and seek Him out why is he going to make it difficult to reach Him??? I'm sure Mr. Warren didn't plan on tongue-tying people's brains as they read the book so that everyone who read it would be discouraged from even trying to complete their God given purpose. This book isn't the Bible, it's only a tool, but it had alot of tid bits of information that are helpful to use along with it that can inspire you to live your life to the fullest and reap everything that God has for your life. (P.S. It's not impossible.) Read it and learn something.
Rating: Summary: It has helped me to understand! Review: I am not a new Christian, but I still have plenty to learn. I consider myself fairly intelligent but I admit I am still sometimes confused by the myriad of ways different people interpret the Bible and explain the tenets of the Christian faith. That said, what I like so much about this book is that it speaks clearly and simply about basic Christian principles, yet deeply enough that I feel as though I have enough of a big picture now to move forward from understanding to action. That (for me) is a breakthrough. To the critics: Even if this book does not offer as much to theologians and scholars as it does to lay people (and some pretty heavyweight theologians and scholars obviously feel otherwise), I think you would probably agree that there is great good in re-stating these profound beliefs in a way that helps a new audience to grasp and embrace them.
Rating: Summary: Nothing impressive here. What's all the hype about? Review: This book is nothing more than a self-help manual adapted to the Christian audience. His use of paraphrase versions of the Bible is annoying beyond words. Also, why do I feel like the book is being used as a catalog for the "Purpose Driven Life" merchandise collection? Score one for commercialized, warm and fuzzy pop Christianity. Perhaps Christians and churches will find their "purpose" easier if they stop chasing every trendy book and video franchise that comes along.
Rating: Summary: What is your purpose in life? Review: What is your purpose in life? Is it to make as much money as you can, have the best house, the best car, the best looking spouse, etc, etc, etc.... If this is your purpose, your life is heading in the wrong direction. What will happen to you if you lost all of your "best" things in an instant? Then what will your purpose be?? It seems when people are in their lowest of lows they begin to ask themselves this question: What is my purpose in life? Rick Warren's book assists in answering that question. Through the Holy Spirit, Mr.Warren is able to write a book that is sweeping this nation. Today our nation is searching for answers, searching for life, searching for a purpose. Through the 5 topics he talks about in the book he assists the reader to begin thinking about his life and questioning his purpose for existence. "You were created for a purpose," he says. If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord then YOU will miss what your purpose is in life. How much plainer can it get. This is an AWESOME book for the person who has never heard of Jesus Christ and for the person who has lived their whole life studying about Him. By reading this book you will grow in your personal life, spiritual life and physical life. This book will be one of the best investments you will ever make- and hopefully an eternal investment as well. So...what is your purpose in life?
