Rating: Summary: Purpose,,,Read SB 1 or God by Maddox Review: Many people today say this is a passing fad, others unaware say this is divine, I say,,,Jesus said that in the last days false prophets would arise in all shapes. Sure there is considerable Bible qoutation in "The Purpose Driven Life". However the purpose and motivation of this book deviates considerably from original scripture. The publisher "Zondervan" has been around many years, and in the past has been highly permissive of biblical deviation. That combined with the price of 12 to 20 dollars for a mass market book which normally sells for 7 is indicative of taking advantage of the ,,,,,last days. Read SB 1 or God by Maddox for a real treat concerning TRUE meaning.
Rating: Summary: What a dissapointment! Review: According to the writer of this title provoking book - before we were even born God has planned for us to hold and read "The Purpose driven life" later on the writer carries on and says things about GOD as if he has interviewed God or as if God has confessed to him. It is maybe not that nice to say but there are so many contradictions and so many inaccuracies. If God is LOVE which HE is and if GOD doesn't want to hurt us (as the writer himself claims) and at last if GOD knew before we were even born that we're gonna be reading Rick Warren's book how come GOD who doesn't want to hurt us, how come the LOVE allows tragedies such as 9/11 and wars like the one in my country Kosova, where civilians not soldiers are targets?? I am all lost - but don't tell me I am a wanderer nor that I don't have a purpose in my life because if I didn't I would've quited my life ages ago after all the things I went through in my most wonderful world which has so many idiots and killers in it. What I am trying to say is that GOD is LOVE and creates people with love but doesn't guide anyone who is guided by evil mind thoughts and actions basically An inventor of a thing creates a thing but how that thing works is not 100% up to the inventor even though he may have the idea what a thing should do and shouldn't. Same with the GOD he creates us first as babies and what we become it's all up to us and of course The Almighty is always our fair and square and the sweetest Parent who rewards and punishes us according to what we have done.I am so sorry if my opinions offended any of Rick Warren's loyal readers but I hope whoever that is understands that it wasn't my intention to do so or to put down Rick Warrens valuable time he spent on this book. After all it was great fun reading it and I have definitely learned something from it and what I have learned is "To read a few pages before I purchase a book"

Rating: Summary: OK book, but I'd recommend a skeptical read Review: I was curious about this book, having heard so much about it from friends and relatives. I'm glad that I did read it, but I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone. It's good to understand the church growth movement and think through related issues, but I personally didn't come away with much for myself. As others have said, I was troubled by all the different Bible translations/paraphrases he used. At times this obscured his points for me to the point that I had to go look them up myself. Then when I did that, I often found myself disagreeing with his use of that particular passage. I also found it to be a little too "self-help" in tone. Focus on Christ is what the church should be about. Measuring ourselves against Him, seeking answers for our problems in the Bible, encouraging others in Christ -- these messages are there, but sometimes it seemed a little foggy and self-absorbed. On the back cover the publisher says this book is "in the tradition of Oswald Chambers." I would disagree. I have a hard time quantifying this, but Oswald Chambers goes far deeper into my soul and stirs me much more than Rick Warren. Rick Warren didn't stir me.
Rating: Summary: A BOOK WITH A GREAT PURPOSE Review: the purpose driven life is a really wonderful book and so needed for our day and time.the writer shows the reader or readers through Gods word that everyone is special and does indeed have a special purpose on this earth and that God knew each and everyone of us even before we were born.this book is special to me because it letsme know that no matter how things are around me I know God has some plans for me and thats comforting and this book"the purpose driven life" by rick warren is very special . my church is studying this book and we have had alot of encouraging discussions from this book.
Rating: Summary: Market Driven Christianity Review: . The spiritual insights are dynamic, but the commercial emphasis in this book is overwhelming. It cause one to wonder if the author is writing from a perspective of sincerity, or is he saying the right things to advance his religion business. Quite frankly, I don't know. But the marketing angle is obvious and distracts from the message. The Apostle Paul noted, "whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached. And I, therein, do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice." Books with a clear, undiluted message would include anything by CS Lewis (Mere Christianity is a classic), The Case for Christ and The Prayer of Hannah. All are available on amazon.com.
Rating: Summary: Transforming Review: I found the arguments against the Purpose Driven Life to be specious and overly critical at best. I found it especially sad that the detractors completely and utterly missed the point! This book has transformed me. The Lord has used it to draw me toward Him, to surrender myself in obedience to His Word. Each page has confirmed for me my need to truly trust in the Lord and set aside my flesh in order to give myself totally to His purpose. And make no mistake; I am a serious student of Scripture. I have never approached God as a "seeker"; my deepest desire is to know and be known by Him as well as be obedient to Him without question. And I happen to agree with Pastor Warren's assessment of using various versions and paraphrases in order to better understand through the Holy Spirit what the Lord has to say. For stubborn fans of the King James Version I say that the KJV was one of many versions that were circulating at the time of it's first publication. So to be stuck on one translation as the best is a matter of mere human pride as well as a discouragement to weaker Christians who wish to study the Word but have difficulty in understand the archaic language. I personally have owned at least five different versions of the Word and have studied each one. And as I have grown into wisdom the Lord has revealed to me the deep secrets of His Word. Add yes, sometimes He has chosen the KJV but He's just as likely to use the New Living Translation or the NIV. Because the Word of God transcends mere language. The Lord has proven that He will reach people where they are and speak to them in a language they will understand. To criticize Pastor Warren for his use of Scripture shows a lack of understanding and completely overlooks the purpose of the book, which is to bring Christians into a deeper relationship with the Lord. And how can that possibly be wrong?
Rating: Summary: An Answer With Substance Review: Rick Warren has done a fine service as a Christian Soldier in helping Christians to focus on the meaning of their Christianity. He gets Christianity out of the box of Sunday worship and makes it all practical. http://www.practicalpundit.com
Rating: Summary: nice title but.... Review: It's just another fundamentalist interpretation of the bible. According to the book: It is wrong to find the truth within you. When we have things like these .. "The Kingdom of God is within You"... where did I read that? "Be still and realize that I AM your god".... another one Apparently he also enjoys paraphrasing Einstein but he only puts whatever fits his purpose and forget this: "It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." If you believe you're nothing but a clone that enjoys being told what to do and how to live your life (with fear and guilt) then this is your book. If you live your life by unraveling and questioning everything and with that, making the human experience more than just "believing" (somebody else's interpretation of the truth) but a trip where the self-realized human being is more than just a mere possibility then do not even bother with this book.
