Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very uplifting, but not informative
Review: This book is one the best I have ever read. It has the POTENTIAL to suit any readers needs. It involves you as the reader to relate and be imaginative in the ultimate emotion you will feel. I myself am very analitical, which is the only reason I felt it was a 4 star in my eyes. I always crave reasons and justifications to opinions on others. Rick Warren obviously thought of the reader as an average, which makes it readily availible to the public eye.. which was his goal.

The Purpose Driven Life may not be for the non-christian type. Most people who doubt God will question the teachings covered in this book. Though Warren gave some metaphors and justifications, most were not strong enough to persuade you to absorb more.
I personally got a lot out of this book, it has opened my mind to further find new ways I can life a happier and better life and please God at the same time! I highly advise this book to a reader who wants more out of a book that just a story. Personal involvement makes it so good.

Summary: Thank God! -- Literally!
Review: This is such an amazing book on so many levels. At first I was hesitant, always shying away from "self-help" books, but this one isn't in that genre and is completely different from almost everything else out there. And while it deals with the idea of an overall plan that God has for us and a sort of "six degrees of separation" idea, it's not a work of inspirational fiction like McCrae's "Bark of the Dogwood" or some of Karon's works. No, this is practical, no nonsense inspiration and beautifully written. Folks, there's a reason this is such a bestseller--it's just that good.

Also recommended: McCrae's BARK OF THE DOGWOOD and IN THIS MOUNTAIN

Summary: Inspirational
Review: Jerene Diamond,
Inspirational
'What on Earth Am I Here For'? I have asked that question of myself many times. Having come from an abusive situation as a child and then later dealing with Domestic violence, I had wondered why i was even put on this earth. The questions are answered with this book. It has helped me to have the knowlege and insight to look beyond the past that i have seen and move forward in to the future. I will read this book again and again as I grow and as time passes to reaffirm my resonings for being here. Very inspirational book!!

I also highly recommend: Abuse related,self-help books that show courage and determination where you thought none could exist: Nightmares Echo, A Child Called It and Running With Scissors.

Summary: Saddleback: The Money Driven Church
Review: As a longtime member of Saddleback Church, I must speak out. Saddleback Church had the potential to do GREAT things to honor God's word. As a member, I also met many, many wonderful people who were not your "Sunday morning Christians." While Rick Warren's message is usually enlightening, it seldom scratches the surface and is intended to transfer the "good-all-over" feeling to attendees - just like his book, "Purpose Driven Life." Unfortunately, the buck stops there (in the most literal sense). Rick Warren's church is designed for one thing and one thing only - to make a buck. (Remember, I'm saying this as a member....well, former member who attended Saddleback for many, many years.)

Read this poorly written book with caution.

Summary: What happened to the five star reviews here???
Review: A large number of five star reviews have been deleted. Why? Does this book bother people that much? Does Amazon not care about making profits with the second best selling book in America right now? Does Amazon only want 1 star reviews to stand out? (Or five star reviews written by the 1 star reviewer)

The Purpose Driven Life is an outstanding book. I highly recommend that you buy and read this book. Even if you buy it from Amazon who apparently knows nothing about integrity or fairness.

Summary: A real purpose
Review: Rick Warren helps each person to focus on the real purpose of their life on this earth. It is so very simple...we only need to pay attention.

Summary: A powerful, uplifting book to awaken your hungry soul!!!
Review: I have been trying to find my footing in the Christian world since leaving the Jehovah Witness religion years ago, have studied the Catholic religion and now learning about Christianity. This book was like food for my hungry soul. Everyone is trying to find their purpose in this life and this book will help you find the right path you should be walking on in this life. I know mine and that is to heal people soul's and lead them to God, so if I can find my purpose, their so lies yours, this is a journey that will lead to fulfillment.

The book covers all areas of thought and questions one may have one may have, like "what drives your life, and your life assignment, and what God hopes for all mankind." Even if you don't have a faith or belong to a certain religion, you will find this book uplifting and help you understand the purpose of what you are doing here and for what purpose.

So, my friends, trust in God and enjoy reading this book as everyone else has and I know you will find your life more complete with God in it and your purpose in this life, it's a wild ride, so bunkle up and enjoy the ride!!

Summary: jesus was a libertarian
Review: Just had to point out the ignorance of those that have posted before. If you take a close look at the teachings of Jesus you will discover that actually he was a libertarian.

Just another example of liberal ignorance.

Summary: Is this book Godly?
Review: Is this book Godly? It must be, as it's selling well. Perhaps God is helping it sell, like the movie Passion of Christ. I believe that is God inspired. But then there are books like "Conversations with God", and those books are so not biblical and I believe succesful due to Satan. And then, there are books in completely different classifications that don't get as much press, but seem Godly and good, yet aren't doing as well, like, "The Little Guide to Happiness", which is a wonderful book. Yet, it doesn't do as well as the demonic driven "conversations with God" or the Godly driven "Purpose Driven Life". I'm confused. Daddy want Ice cream now, mommy. Am I having a nervous break down?

Summary: Not a deep book, but a well meaning one
Review: Why does this book get three stars? Because it's probably suitable for 3 out of 5 readers. Why else? It gets two stars for a well thought framework, and one for an easy reading style. As for a sound argument, I can't give it any more.
Mr. Warren's premise, that our lives have meaning, and that that meaning can be divided into five God-given purposes, is well structured. The framework is solid as he lays the purposes out. We were designed for God's pleasure, formed for God's family, created to become like Christ, shaped for serving God, and made for a mission.
But while the skeleton is sound, the flesh is often more spam than meat and muscle. While he rightly says "We do not serve a distant and detached God who spouts encouraging cliches safely from the sideline." the same section is chock-full of cliches. When the author gets on a roll, the cliches begin coming so fast that the real biblically extracted words are lost in the flow. It becomes hard to tell one from the other. He picks and chooses from a series of translations which he then chops into pieces to fit his points better. The translations he picks from are, themselves, those which take liberties with the greek and hebrew texts in order to direct the reader toward a single interpretation to the exclusion of others. This turns the book into a more Southern Baptist monologue than a Christian exposition.
The disappointment in this book is that it does not deliver on the promise. The challenge of temptation is met with an exortation to memorize scriptures and throw them in the face of the tempter. If we take scriptures without context, as Mr. Warren often does, this can make us less understanding of the Word of God, rather than more.
This is more a book of encouragement, or inspiration, or perhaps proselytization, than it is a book of theology or exposition. It is too often eisegetic, rather than exegetic.
For those sound in the scriptures and able to separate the meat from the spam, this book is suitable. For those new to Christ, with time to correct future misconceptions this book may give, it serves as an introduction. As a bible study text, it is suitable matter for discussion. For the critic or the questioning, this is not the book for you.
