Rating: Summary: not too sure. Review: i would only recommend this book to people who know nothing at all about tattooing. i would have rather named this book "tattooing for dummies". if you're new to the tattooing community this book will definitely provide you with useful information, otherwise it just wont do much for you. too many generalizations, i feel. the language used is very much aimed at an american audience.
Rating: Summary: The one book to read if you're considering getting a tattoo. Review: I'd been thinking about getting a tattoo for ten years and still hadn't gotten up the nerve to do it. Reading this book did the trick--it explains everything and helps dispel the fears. The author has a great, straightforward style and obviously knows her subject. I'm buying a second copy of the book to send to my mother, who hasn't exactly come to terms with the idea of her middle-aged daughter decorating herself with stars. If you've ever even thought about getting a tattoo, if you're in the least bit curious about what it feels like and how the whole process is accomplished--this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: not what i expected Review: im a big fan of body art. i read and research alot about it. i also have four tattoos of my own and plan on getting more. i even dated a tattoo artist for a short period of time. i hung out at the tattoo shop every day and was around 5-10 artists at a time every day. i know my stuff. but by no means am i out writing a book on tattoos. with that said. this book was not the "total tattoo book" i expected. it mostly told me stuff i already knew, had bad pictures, and talked way to much about her personal experiences. i was bored and even skipped sentences at times just to finish it. but i did finish it out of respect for the author and give her two stars. 1 star for her efforts 1 star because its about tattoos
Rating: Summary: an overview on the entire tattoo industry Review: interesting insights on all aspects of tattoos from design to history to actual artists. although slightly dated, the book is very well written and a good read for those with a love of body art.
Rating: Summary: Do apples write books about oranges? Review: No. And Krakow shouldn't write books about tattoos. But she did, and it's nothing more than 223 pages about her and 1 page that *might* pass as useful information on this beautiful art. "Hey, give her a brake" "Maybe she's an insider?" "Maybe she has tattoos?" "Maybe her friends have tattoos?" Nope. None of the above. It seems these days, anyone can write a book about anything and have it sell quite a few copies simply for the beautiful cover alone.
Rating: Summary: A bit much about Amy. Review: This book isn't badly written, but isn't the "Total Tattoo Book" as she claims it to be. The book centers around New York's tattoo scene, and mostly old-school, male, tattoo artists. Amy claims to be an insider, but all she really is, is a convention promoter.
Rating: Summary: fantastic, insightful and up to date Review: This book was fantastic. I am really interested in tatoo art and this book provided alot of insight and information into the world of tatoo art. It was also very helpful for research... Thanks for the great book.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read 4 Tat2 Lovers Review: This book was hard to put down, even though I had homework to do. It has a wide variety of categories explained in plain english for newbies w/ pics. The center has a nice layout of color and b/w photos. It also has a partial directory of tattoo artists in each state (where legal or not).

Rating: Summary: Great Tattoo Ethnography Review: This is a great guide to Tattoo culture, history, styles, effects upon society, et al. Also included is a listing of Tattoo shops all-over the world. Of course, this listing is outdated, but should give anyone with Internet access all they need to get started. For instance, "Tattoo Charlie's" is a famous Louisville, KY based shop that only had a few branches, when this book was written. Now, however, Tattoo Charlie's has spread all-over Louisville, Southern Indiana, etc. At the time this book was written, Tattoing was illegal in IN. Now, we have numerous shops available, which can be found by a web search, or asking-around. Although this book is out-of date, it contains a concise history of the Tattoo, the people who get tattooed, various methods of tattoing, many black and white photos, and a middle section of Full-Color photos. This book is loaded with pics and includes photos of famous tattooed individuals. At the time this book was written, every other Holllywood star did not have a Tat, so it was interesting, circa the creation of the book. Consider this a "Pre Dennis Rodman -era" Tattoo book. The Total Tattoo book even covers the implications of "Cosmetic Tattooing."
