Summary: Rita Mae, step aside!
Review: I don't know how I missed this book the first time around. Chicken is witty, sexy, real and fun. It reminded me strongly of the Rita Mae Brown I once loved -- quirky characters and excellent writing.

It looks at lesbian life in a different way than the romance novels do, which provides for a rich story with a lot of breadth. Fortunately, even though I don't consider this book a romance per se, it's got plenty of the good stuff.

I am so glad this book was brought back into print. It's a slice of lesbian life and a delightful novel.

Summary: Martinac Is a Treasure
Review: This book is terrific, primarily because Paula Martinac, unlike so many of her peers can--get this--WRITE! It's funny, smart, sexy, not pretentious and carries you along page after page. However, if you're the type that gets all gooey over those lesbian romances that feature lots of over-the-top soap opera characters with names like Tanner Destiny or Amber Sabre, then this book is probably not for you. Or if you like your lead characters pierced in painful sounding places and addicted to snorting spray paint, then maybe look elsewhere. Thank Goddess somebody has gone beyond those stilted, humorless-YAWN-Coming Out stories and the self-published hooey complete with typographical errors that are everywhere these days. I believe that this is Martinac's third novel. I just ordered the other two. What a discovery!

Summary: mindless irritation
Review: this novel irritated me. it seemed like a lame attempt to publish lesbian literature - as if the fact that she was gay waas enough. the main character was simply boring. she was one-dimensional and her lame quest to fulfill the whole left by her long-term lover was just, well, lame. i wouldn't waste your money on this one.

Summary: Quick getaway, like a weekend in Vegas...
Review: This was a fun read. Entertaining, humorous, and a definate dose of drama for those like myself whose homo-love lives are teetering on the edge of mundane. It is a book with sand tucked away in between the creases of each page, and wrinkles and dog-eared pages left by all of those friends who have been hovering over the same copy for the past couple weeks. I recommend you get a couple of friends to pitch in a buck or two and make the book do laps. Hey, it's cheaper than going to the latest meant-for-twenty-somethings movie and you'll get the same satisfaction. Enjoy!
