Rating: 5 stars
Summary: DOUGLAS SAYLOR RULES
Review: With a clear definition of "homotext" Douglas Saylor takes you on a thorough and well researched, scholarly tour of "homotextuality" in Sade, Balzac, and Proust. He writes with the fluidity of Edmund White in books such as THE FAREWELL SYMPHONY and MARRIED MAN, and has the sophistocation of Paul Bowles' SHELTERING SKY. Douglas, a dynamic person in the flesh, is a vibrant scholar and provides both a fast paced, in-depth look at the topic, but also provides such a thorough bibilography that other scholars will use this work to build upon for decades. If I were to be offered one book to read that would give me the sense of the origins of "homotexuality" and gay progress from ancient origins till now, I'd pick this book because it would quickly propell you into the heart of the matter.
