Summary: Poorly written; quite disappointing
Review: I disagree with all the other reviewers. The plot is weak, the character development is non-existent and the writing is amateurish. Sexton can't hold a candle to either Roeder or Donaghe. I know it's his first book and allowance should be made for that but I'm suprised that Sexton found a publisher for this story. It's not worth the purchase price.

Summary: Poorly written; quite disappointing
Review: Just finished reading Jonathan Sexton's book, PIXIESTICKS. Really, really liked it. It's soooo refreshing to read good work from a good writer who's not afraid of gay teens having sex. In other words, REALITY!!! PIXIESTICKS is one of those books that I call a "Keeper". You know, one of those books I know I'll want to read again later. Jonathan, if you read this, please, please, please write more. You simply must - for I have spoken & ye shall obey... jjl

Summary: Pixiesticks: It has it all.
Review: The book has it all...endearing characters, villans that are hateful and hate-able, a shock in the middle, twists upon twists, stunning suspense and a resolution that only makes you beg for more. I would definately recommend it!

Summary: A Disappointing Fourteen Bucks
Review: This is one of those books you never heard of but buy because it turns up on those Amazon `Also Bought' lists a lot (way down on the second page) , and you figure "Hey, I'll give it a shot." This is a shot in the foot.

I have no doubt Pixiesticks started on a free story site; it reads like quite a few of them. It has an interesting premise and even opening scene, but doesn't explore any new ground or even handle old ground well. The writing style is strictly amateur and unpolished. Work even on the pay-as-you-publish route. The situations are contrived, rely totally on standard clichés, and character development is almost non-existent.

While some of the characters start off cute and endearing, they are never fleshed out and the text is riddled with continuity errors (among them a central character's age, which is actually crucial to what is more or less the main plot), shifting dialogue, typos, usage errors and misspellings which make this even harder to follow. The narrative takes long detours in order to pack in some sexual content that has little to do with the story and isn't handled particularly well. On the other hand, it pads out the text enough for Pixiesticks to qualify for the page count it takes to generate a book.

The author maintains a small website for his other stories.
