Rating: Summary: Excellent overview of the19th century gay movement Review: I certainly enjoyed this brief overview of the gay rightsmovement during this time frame. This certainly blowsthe idea that Stonewall was the beginning of the gayrights movement. The political activities and numbersof the time are a surprise. The European basedorganization provided visibility to society as a wholeand more specifically to the German legislature. Theiractivities were successful until Hitler et al reduced theirlibraries and buildings to rubble. Also, Justin Kaplan'sbiography of Walt Whitman (I think it was Kaplan's)provides some exposure to Uncle Walt's resistenceto acknowledge their praise of his writings as homo-erotic. Actually, I think he flat out rejected their praise asdisgusting interpretations of his works. I have (had?)5 or 6 hardcopies (no longer available I believe) - most(if not all) have been given away. I recommend thisto anyone interested in the gay rights movement (pastor present), especially for comparing to the modernday gay rights movement - puts it in perspective
