Rating: Summary: I identified with the book Review: "What Color Is Your Scarf?" is by a man who came out late in life, has recognized his frailties and is attempting to make himself better. In the book, Brown tells you how he is attempting to overcome his imperfections. He has a plan and he makes the telling of it interesting.I see no reason why the wisdom Brown inculcates wouldn't be useful to anyone as a coming-out guidebook. I would recommend it, especially to people just going through the coming-out process, regardless of their age.
Rating: Summary: Glad I bought it Review: ... It hits a lot of points that are true, about what it is like to find Mr. Right and how many of us end up with Mr. Wrong. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating! Very highly recommended Review: As gay subculture continues to evolve, it develops its own myths, cultural heroes, stereotypes and sign language. For those just entering the gay community, or for those of us who simply seek understanding, books like WHAT COLOR IS YOUR SCARF? prove invaluable. At the age of forty, author Michael S. Brown was a late comer to the gay community. His candid account of his coming out and subsequent exploration of the gay community is extraordinarily enlightening. His candid descriptions of gay bars, personal ads and the internet will sound quite familiar to those who have journeyed before him. Like handkerchiefs worn hanging out of a back pocket, gay men are creating their own language and meanings to convey intent. Men exploring their sexuality and seeking an entry to an otherwise wildly confusing landscape will welcome WHAT COLOR IS YOUR SCARF? for its pragmatic, humorous, irreverent approach to homosexuality. Further, although I began with a fascination for a lifestyle that is completely opposite my own, I ended with the realization of the commonness of experience in the quest to find Mr. Right.
Rating: Summary: Definitely not a rental! Review: During my reading I found myself saying "Hey, I've been there." a great deal. It is a honest and humorous look at many aspects of the gay world. It is wonderful to finally see a book about what it is like for, let us say, a more "mature" man to come to terms with who he is. If you are gay I know you'll find yourself identifying with a great deal of what Mr. Brown is saying. If you are straight, you will get a good account of what the coming out experience is like and an insight into gay "education". I hope this is not Mr. Brown's last book!
Rating: Summary: Enlightening Review: I enjoyed reading the book. It was very enlightening and I learned a lot.

Rating: Summary: Places We've Been But Never Put Into Words Review: I found this book a quick and easy read and right on the mark..things, emotions etc. that we as gay men have all experienced but never bothered to put into words are here in print. It was an affirming read and would recommend it to all who have come out later in life...or at any time in life. All this is told in a humorous and anecdotal manner that makes for a fun and interesting read.
Rating: Summary: This scarf was a rainbow of colors! Review: I just read Michael Brown's autobiography, What color is your scarf? It is always interesting for me to read about other gay men's expierences with what life throws out at them as gay people. I had to first of all laugh at the title. Being a late bloomer myself, it took me years before I could begin to understand all the meanings of all the various colors of handerchiefs, or in this case, scarfs!! The book made me laugh. There are some very funny scenes described in this book! Like the heterosexual world, we have our differences, but I think any gay man who reads this autobiography will find Something he can relate to in his own coming out journey. I certianly found myself more then once smiling and thinking that I certainly can appriciate Michael's feelings about this or that, and, other situations that were totally different for me. The reading is so so easy, and at times it felt like Michael was sitting next to me telling me his most intiment secrets!.
Rating: Summary: Loved the book Review: I related to a lot of things that you mentioned. Thanks for the words.
Rating: Summary: This book should be required reading in Gay Man 101. Review: I related to many of the stories and situations, epecially about the internet. This book made me stop and look at my life and what I want. I found it very introspective and helped me to think about the type of person I am and how I want to be seen by others.
