Summary: Wow! Had I only seen this when I was young
Review: As a middle-aged gay man growing up in a California suburb, I felt isolated and alone during my formative years. Had I seen a book like this and learned that far from being alone I was part of a rich and wonderful cultural tradition I think it would have made a huge difference. Thanks to the authors of this book.

Review: This is a good and useful volume, but the Booklist review errs when it says this volume represents a First. The First was the Encyclopedia of Homosexuality, edited by Dynes, Johansson, and Percy, which preceded this volume and was also published by Garland.
