Beautiful,naive young Amantha thinks at first that she is in love with Godwin Shenstone, a much older man.

As if turns out, Godwin marries her for a calculated purpose.

When Amantha meets the Countess Leonie de Brieux the two develop a deep friendship, and fall in love, but Leonie has a secret which is about to change forever the way Amantha has always looked at life.

My only compliant with this book is that the two women were so often apart from one another, and remain with their husbands thoroughout most of the novel.

Nonetheless it is very romantic and a well-written book.

There are some matters that leave the reader wondering just how certain things were handled after the book comes to an end, but the main characters and plots are wrapped up and one knows happiness is, finally at hand.
