Rating: 5 stars
Summary: "Growing Pains"
Review: In The Diary of Baby Chulo, author Frank Barrera illustrates a young gay Latino man's quest for happiness. Along with prose, the novel includes beautiful poetry. The poetry can stand alone by itself. What makes the novel so enjoyable is the courageousness and truthfulness that jumps from the pages as I read. The author and I are the same age, and from reading the novel I was reminded that everything in life is all relative. Since I am Latina, I also enjoy the way Barrera describes his Latino household. It is amazing how different yet the same people can be and how this author uses his literature to illustrate that point. This is a great read!
