Summary: Deliciously surprising
Review: A novel of extraordinary interest and scope, epic in the traditions of Mitchner and Stone, riveting and passionate and well researched. I will be insulted if it is not made into a major motion picture. I had difficulty putting it down each evening to get some sleep. It is about time that an intelligent book of this genre has entered into the mainstream literature of America. Suitable reading for those interested in learning about the conditions of life in the Mother Lode of California. As a student of California history I can attest that the events portrayed are not at all far from the realities of the period.

an interesting and engaging cast of characters with moments of true and unexpected romance that caused not a small amount of erotic response. Not a fan of drippy romance, I did enjoy this work and passed it on to friends

Summary: Good for a second read
Review: This two-volume book is a "must-read" for any one who is interested in gay romantic novels. I covered several emotional feelings in the first 90 pages. I found that the books held my interest, were titallating, and made me want to talk with the author to find out how he came to write all this. The book has an earthiness and ruggedness not often found in gay literature. There is a air of mystery too as I found it difficult to put the book down becuase I wanted to continue reading. I commend the author for his work and for giving me a good time and a chance to "escape" from the cares of the day.

Review: When I buy a book, I insist on a good story and eloquent descriptions. Stan Hill's "The Love You Leave Behind" is a wonderful read. It was one of those experiences in which you find yourself unable to put the book(s) down. The story is richly embellished with historical references which make the narrative that much more vivid. The characterization is captivating, as Hill draws you into the very soul of his protagonists. And the storyline, which is the central draw for any work of fiction, is dynamic and inventive. I can recommend this book without reservation as a great summer read.
