Summary: Good, but not all the way
Review: I didn't know what to expect from this book. When I began to read it, it was nice. Especially the stories of the men were sometimes kind of funny. The best tip of the book was to have a joined calender somewhere, as ridiculous as it may sound. The advice was something you get through expierences. Many things of the "asking for trouble" list I instinctly never did. The interviews make the book. Although I find that the autor pointed out a bit too much on AIDS. Perhaps because this book is written a few year back; although it is a revision.
That isn't all ofcourse. The chapter on Money and Insurance is from a capitalistic view. Everyone seems to be rich and has the needs to be wealthy. No communist mentoined there. Very American I suppose.
Secondly the chapter on Religion! The author only discussed Christianity. He gives an example of throwing rice at a ceremony. If he saw the 'Wedding Banquet'(a movie that deals with gay issues) he could have given also the example that in Asia, they let a baby jump on the bed to stimulate fertility. Besides that the chapter doesn't say anything else besides Christian gay spirituality. Many Gay people turned there back on Christanity, because of the negative statements towards gay people. Perhaps America is far away from the Vatican. There are also Gay Pagans, Wicca's, Hindoes, Boeddhists and Shamans. They are all left-out in this book. I found that a bit careless.
On the other hand you can put you or your partner in the shoes of the couples that are interviewed. He also gives a bibliography at the end of each chapter, which I find a strong point. If you're Christian, Gay and Capitalist: this is your book!

Summary: A must read for every Gay Couple.
Review: I have read other books by Eric Marcus and none of them fail to please. "The Male Couple's Guide..." is no exception. It's a great read. It provided a lot of good, timely information on the whole 'couple thing'. Marcus covers every angle from meeting to marriage. I learned a lot and enjoyed the personal touch that shines throughout. Taking a glimpse into the lives of real couples helps the reader understand all the dynamics that go into building a lasting relationship. Excellent resource for today's gay man. Finally something to go by!

Summary: Not Inspiring
Review: I read this after Kantor's "My Guy" - quite a contrast. This book is much less interesting, not quite as positive and outgoing, more a good housekeeping guide than an invitation to date ......I did not find this book well-written, and certainly not as interesting to read as Kantor's which I found quite exhilirating. Yes, I am disappointed......doesn't mean it is not a good book, just that the order in which I read them made it seem dull and uninspired.

Review: This is a great book to read for any gay person with or with out a partner. I just recently accepted my sexuality and have begun to come out. I felt that it was a great book and had a lot of great suggestions. Ranging from anything from how to make your relationship legal, to age differences, and even advice on who to come out to and who not to. Of course, none of this is set in stone, it is all helpful opinions. The thing I liked most about the book was how they let the couples tell their stories relating to each chapter. It actually allowed you to see it through someone else's eyes and how it relates to couples. It is a great book that I would recommend to anyone whether they have been out of the closet for 15 years and have been involved in 20 or more relationships, or someone who isn't even out of the closet and hasn't had one relationship. A great book for all. I give it a two thumbs up! :)
