I enjoyed watching Evan learn about himself and deal with the twists and turns in his life. I was eager to see how it all would turn out! All the main characters are extremely well written and believable - Evan, his mom, his brother and Hector. I was particularly fascinated and touched by Evan's brother Peter, and the contrasts in their own self-understandings and self-acceptance. I would certainly enjoy reading a sequel. This is a good novel on learning to accept yourself for who you are, and finding understanding for others who cannot accept themselves or others due to ignorance or fear. I recommend this book and intend to read more from this author.

Review: This book will give you the impression that all gay youngsters growing up in Florida have sex 24 hours a day. What about all us middle-aged folks in the rest of the country? The main character has few redeeming qualities other than to be young and cute and a optimistic hope that life will turn out better. His family is dysfunctional - the most realistic part of the book - and most of the older gay characters are messed up too. There seem to be gaps of months or even years in the narrative, during which time I would expect a teenager to grow emotionally, but that doesn't seem to happen.Overall, the book is fun. Just wish that more of the tale contained the positive spins found in the ending.

Review: When I started this book, I wasn't sure I would like Evan and didn't think I wanted to hear his story. He was just another mixed-up bratty kid who seemed destined to waste his life. After finishing the book, I'm hoping for a sequal. Evan grows up emotionally right before our eyes and, through several experiences, becomes comfortable with himself and learns to stand on his own. It brought back many memories, some good and some bad, of my journey to being comfortable with myself and learning to be independent. Highly recommended to anyone currently going through this situation as well as to those who have already been through it.
