Summary: warm - fuzzy - sappy - dull
Review: Originally published in 1969 under the title _A Place for Us_, this work may have been a breakthrough in its time, but now its a giant step backward for lesbian fiction. The characters in this book, while touchingly in love, have not the realist punch necessary to keep this book going. MOre importantly, if we are to analyze this book from a socially aware perspective, it seems that the social interactions are poisoned by a ``butch-femme'' conflation of expression and orientation. There currently no shortage of far, far better novels out there, both lesbian and not.

Summary: An essential text for any enlighted woman.
Review: PATIENCE AND SARAH was an unexpected suprise to me. As an avid reader, it is books like this that continue to fuel the flames of my reading passion. I found this novel absolutely delightful as a romance story, and unquestionably important as a women's history text. This is an important book for all who consider themselves concerned citizens. The story centers around a lesbian love story but translates its message of sexual awakening, search for identity, and tolerance into a profound reminder of the difficulties surrounding all marginalized groups. I place this novel alongside Simone de Beauvoir's THE SECOND SEX as esential reading that inspires me and has changed the face of women's history forever. the face of society for all women.

Summary: I Love It!
Review: This book was lent to me by my first girlfriend, in college, and from the first word to the last, it is definitely one of the best books that i have ever read. It has everything-- humour, romance, sincerity, strength, and even though it was to have taken place a long time ago, it is very real and very true, even today...definitely worth it!

Summary: The Courage to Love
Review: This is a simply delightful tale of two women who have the courage to love whom they really love, despite societal pressures to conform with what was traditionally expected of women--often at the expense of happiness. I was struck by how sensual the book was, especially for one that does not describe much more than kisses. My only negative comments about this book are I found it disturbing that one of the women bit the other in revenge for something (and the characters acted like this was the right thing to do) and the ending is much too abrupt. There should have been at least another chapter. Why reach the summit and close your eyes before taking a look around?

Summary: A SUPER READ!
Review: This is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE books! I read it years ago and kept it. I still go back and reread it from time to time. I highly recommend this to all readers!

Summary: An Excellent Read!
Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read! It will transport you back through the years. You will become part of the story. I first read this book years ago and I still find myself returning to it again and again. It never grows old. It is such a sincere, honest, although at times, difficult story of life and all it's struggles and triumphs. Don't miss it!

Summary: Melting...A Classic
Review: This wonderful book used to be one of the few positive lesbian books out there. I know when I found it, years ago, I was comforted by the portrayal of two women making their way in a world that does not want them to be together. They lack even the words to describe their feelings for each other. When one describes her physical reaction to the other's lovemaking as "melting" I thought that was a perfect description for the book. It made all my cynicism melt away for a while.

It's a period piece and a well-written romantic tale that no true romantic will want to miss.
