Rating: Summary: engaging gay amateur sleuth tale Review: Michael Starks informs his friend feminine hygiene products' copywriter Robert Willsop that he is in love and going to marry Max. Since Michael goes through men at a rate faster than a paid professional, Robert remains skeptical that this is just the flavor of the day for his promiscuous pal. When Robert meets the gorgeous Max he thinks of ways to kill Michael because he wants the hunk in his bed and not in that of a saddle tramp like his bud.Though jealous, Robert agrees to help Michael with the gayest wedding in the history of Manhattan. However, in front of well over a thousand guests, Max jilts Michael. Not long afterward, Max is killed with the obvious murder suspect being his fiancee. Robert and Michael accompanied by the six foot four inch lesbian Monette must find the real culprit rather soon. Fans of gay mystery tales will probably want to pass on SOMEONE KILLED HIS BOYFRIEND as the amateur sleuth investigation takes a major rear seat to the cast's lifestyle. Robert is the key player who keeps the plot moving forward. Readers, regardless of sexual preference, will understand his depression and his concerns many common to anyone not just gays. Michael's ego makes him somewhat obnoxious (except in bed) and don't challenge Monette in any sport as she'll kick your butt further than a soccer ball (stereotypes?). The three caballeros turn David Stukas' novel into an amusing romp that focuses on the lifestyle of the rich and poor gay. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: I laughed and wondered who! Review: Mr. Stukas has written a wonderful first novel of mystery and intrigue, but more so hilarious relationships that should never be. Michael and Robert are as mismatched as lycra and silk but somehow they add a belt and some accessories and make it a smashing ensemble with Monette. I take my hat off, or in this case a smart-looking chapeau, to Mr. Stukas. He has made characters I care about... and must I admit my fav is Michael, he is just so amazing in his dimwittery. Great read. I look forward to the next one. Laura
Rating: Summary: Zoom Zoom! Review: Pure Fun......a rollercoaster of a ride!
Rating: Summary: A Mystery Novel, It Ain't. A Fun Read, It Is. Review: The book, which purports to be a mystery novel, fails abysmally on that level. (How can one guess the murderer when we only meet him/her when he is revealed???) But as a witty diversion, the book is a fun read. Michael is a wonderful character among more or less stereo-typical denizens. But he is enough to carry the book. He is sheer fantasy (and so is the plot). If we suspend our disbelief, it's enjoyable. But, for an honest gay murder mystery with wit, read those by Grant Michaels. David Stukas should read him, too, before Michael Stark (hopefully) returns.
Rating: Summary: Complete Waste of Paper And Ink Review: This book is nothing more than a complete was of paper, ink and the time you may spend reading it. It's nothing but mindless. The characters are completley unlikeable and the book is nothing more than catty comments strung together. It's a total mess of a book.
Rating: Summary: What A Hoot! Review: This is a must read. Mr. Stukas has created characters in Robert, Michael, and Monette who are so endearing and amusing that even Mrs. Stark, Michael's Radical Republican Mother, could not refuse to love them. (she does refuse to love Robert in the book however - her loss). A WHODUNIT with style, wit, and creativity, Stukas weaves a murder mystery around P-town during the summer, and peppers it with humor that will leave the reader laughing out loud. Without Monette, I don't think even Hitchcock could solve the mystery. Have fun with this book. I'm sure once you have read it, you will read the rest of Mr. Stukas's books.

Rating: Summary: This is Definitely Not a Drag! Review: This is an extremely funny, smart first mystery--published in 2001-- by Mr. Stukas. There are three main characters here, the rich and spoiled, handsome and very promiscuous Michael-- the towels in his fashionable bathroom are labeled "His" and "Next"-- there there is Robert, his ordinary best friend, an underpaid copywriter, who describes himself as a recovering Catholic, and their lesbian friend Monette. These three set out to find the killer of Michael's "boyfriend" although he doesn't get done in until the novel is well over half over.
There are lots of laughs here, nothing to get upset about, a great way to spend an evening in bed reading, or you can take this one to the beach as well. But amid all these buffed, perfect bodies and endless parties, Mr. Stukas does remind us of one important truth: drag queens-- not the gym bunnies or the leather crowd-- stood up to the police riots at Stonewall. A lesson we should not forget is that these brave "ladies" made it possible for groups like, say, the Log Cabin Republicans to do whatever it is that they do.
Rating: Summary: Robert is Lucy Ricardo and Michael is Ethel Mertz Review: This is an I LOVE LUCY whodunit, with humor, twists of plot, and some surprises. Mrs. Stark, Michael's mother, must be related to Joan Crawford or Eva Braun. The story is quick, witty, and charming. Don't miss this one.
