Rating: Summary: Mindless Drama Review: While I have loved some of E. Lynn Harris' other books, this one didn't do it for me. While there were a lot of stories going on, the story line development had holes. There was lots of drama but it just didn't seem to go anywhere. Everyone (his mama, his man, his friend, etc) seemed to know what Raymond was thinking all of the time --- bad writing or is the brother that transparent. It read like a soap opera with really weak characters. Also, there were attempts in the book to bring some wisdom to the story..."listen to your heart...". Borrow this one if you must read it.
Rating: Summary: BORING...... Review: I read Harris's previous books & was disappointed by AbideWith Me. It started slowly & never really got interesting. Thedialogue seemed fake & contrived. The only thing that even mademe try to finish the book was Basil & the drama between Nicole andYancey. And after I read the entire book, I was left confused by theending ... I'm going to read And This Too Shall Pass next. I hopeit's much better.
Rating: Summary: Loved It Review: Abide With Me had me on the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen next. I loved to hate Yancey, because I love the character Nicole so much. Yancey did what she felt she had to do for fame, even if it's ruining other lives. Raymond is such a good man I always love to see what's he's been up to. I hope he and Trent don't get back together in any future books. Raymond can do so much better. Basil is my boy, I hope he turn's Yancey out, because with that cliffhanger at the end I know there's going to be a sequel. The end of this book had me in tear's. I loved the character Kyle and the way he and Raymond's friendship was. I had to wipe out the pages of my book when I finished this novel. As I alway's say "If you want a good book, read anything E.Lynn Harris".
Rating: Summary: What Happened here Review: I fell in love with this author after "Invisible Life' and "Just as I am". So you could imagine my eagerness to read this book.I WAS TOO DAMN EAGER. It started out explosive. All the character I love in the midst of trouble and my favorite character, Basil dealing with life...hmmmm Then... I don't know what happened, but the ending came and I felt as if pages were missing out of my edition, becasue nothing was explained..Raymond deserves the best...the Trent issue is not dealt with at all....and as for Nicole and Yancy..hmmmm Mr. Harris can still write but i guess the pressure was on too much to come up with an ending. Still a good book though
Rating: Summary: Great Review: This book really held my interest. I read it in three days. This was the second E. Lynn Harris book I have read. Mr. Harris is a very good writer. I look forward to reading more of his books. The characters were great. He really made me feel like I want to go to New York to see a broadway play.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I enjoyed the book to the fullest. The book kept me turning pages. Readers will love this. I'm proud of Raymond decsion at the end regarding his career even though it took alot of thought and pondering. It comes to show all relationships aren't perfect no matter the situation may be. Basil, I love this guy, kept me entertain and laughing and I'm glad he was put back in this book, even though I did hate him in the beginning. The ending of the book was touching and it does make you wonder as to what Harris will do in the future if he so choose to continue the legacy. I'm proud to be one of his "Fan" and to all readers, like I said, it's a must read.
Rating: Summary: The best one yet by Harris Review: I have faithfully followed all of Harris' work starting from his first book about Raymond, and I must say that this last one is the best to date. His books just keep getting better and better. Even though this is supposed to be the conclussion, I would love to see further books focusing on Raymond & Trent and the rest of the gang. His discription of how a gay man must live through this sometimes cruel world is pretty accurate. I will be waiting on pins and needles until his next book is released.
Rating: Summary: A Better Understanding Review: I loved this book. I am a recent college graduate. I admit that I never ever completed a book in my last 20 years of schooling, but this one had me strapped to it's pages. I loved the evolving lifestyles of the characters. I found it captivating how the author kept me turning pages without losing interest in any of the characters. I now have a better understanding of homosexuals and too know that homosexual relationships can be filled with as much love, affection and quality as any other relationship.
Rating: Summary: Pure Enjoyment Review: I really enjoyed this book. The characters were so real, and the story lines were so deep, and touching that I could not put the book down. This is one awesome book. The story of Basil was a trip, he was my favorite character.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as previous books Review: _Abide with Me_ continues the story of Raymond and his family, Trent, Basil, Jared and Nicole that Mr. Harris started in his previous books. This is definately not the best of them; although it is still entertaining. The subplot with Nicole and the budding starlet Yancey wore rather thin. It seemed like it should have been obvious to Nicole what Yancey was about. Nicole never came across as really naive until this book. It also seems like there should have been more in the book about Raymond's lover, Trent. Basil played the best part in the story - but the ending was disappointing. Like Mr. Harris' other books, many of the characters came off as a little to perfect - too rich, etc. Overall, I would consider the book definately worth reading, but it should not be a person's first introduction to Mr. Harris' work. I would recommend _And this too shall Pass_ or _An Invisible Life_.
