Rating: Summary: A MUST READ!!!! Review: Once again, E. Lynn Harris has kept me up all night, reading while driving, reading on breaks at work and reading while under the dryer to finish the last book in the "Invisible Life" Trilogy. This final book is AMR (a must read) by all of Mr. Harris' fans. You will definitely not be disappointed. I couldn't put this put down at all!
Rating: Summary: Improvement Over Last Two Novels Review: I'm a fan but I was disappointed in Harris' last two novels. But Abide With Me is good. Basil is still his best character, the most complex and developed. I hope Harris will consider writing a novel with Basil as the main focus. We love him because he's bad, but we want him to work through his child abuse issues and find love in his life, hopefully without turning into a cardboard character or a saint.
Rating: Summary: SIMPLY MARVELOUS Review: Captivationg, entertaining, simply Marvelous. Bought three books on 3-17-99, one to loan, for for a co-worker I started reading the first book and going through until she had read all four. I bought one to loan and one for my personal Library.
Rating: Summary: Sad To See This End Review: I know with my caption and the three stars, everyone who reads my comments won't understand my sentiments, but here I go. Abide With Me was excellently written as with all of Lynn's books. The intricate story of love, life, and living with all his characters were wonderful to a point. I did, however, feel that this book was unfinished. and the trilogy should continue on. There were so many gaps that the average Lynn fan could decipher, but ones I would have loved to hear in Lynn's voice. Raymond's sexuality issues weren't cleared up in this novel. We visited a very loving relationship with him and Trent, but his expectations of 'perfectness' brought questions out that Lynn can explain (his previous books have done that). Also, BASIL! My favorite bad guy. I sure hope that Lynn plans to do a 'Basil' book because he is wonderful. The doctor sessions, the Yancy thing--come on now--got to have more of that. And lastly, the Jared and Nicole relationship. I didnt feel that Lynn gave me his all. She was all too naive. She wasnt ambitious enough to handle what she needed to do professional or personal. In the past, Lynn has given us in-depth heart gripping stories that just touched us in every part of our emotional beings. His account with family and spirituality was priceless in previous books, but I feel cheated. I will forever support his work and admire him as a writer.
Rating: Summary: ONCE AGAIN! Review: I loved it! And I didnt even buy at a discounted price. LOL. Now you know I must like some E. Lynn Harris. Well I was hooked from book one and continue to be hooked. Sorry to see it end but it was a great journey. Stayed up all night reading and enjoyed it. BTW..I believe "Invisble Life" will become a collectors item. Those with the original 1st editions..hold on to them...cause I am looking.Much Love.
Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING! Review: I read this book in less than 24 hours! Run, don't walk to your nearest bookstore and pick this one up! I'm only sorry to hear that this is the last book in the Invisible Life series. I will miss Raymond, Trent, Ms. Nicole, Jared and even Basil! Thank you E. Lynn Harris for creating such heart warming, yet very different characters that made me laugh and cry so many times! You have such a wonderful way of pulling the reader directly into the character's personal life, where you experience so much of what that person is feeling. I have read all of your books, and they just keep on getting better (if that's even possible!) I wish you the best of luck with this book, and I look forward to your next masterpiece!
Rating: Summary: A book that sizzles your mind, heart and soul. Review: There is nothing that E Lynn writes that I would not buy. If you have followed his books you will love the conclusion of this book. We as readers have become part of the characters. It can make you cry, laugh, lust in one breath between each written page. Like a glass of cold lemonade on a hot sizzling day you as the reader can not help but pick it up at each private moment.
Rating: Summary: Anything He Writes is The Bomb!!! Review: I recommend anyone to purchase this book. I have read all of his books and they have been awesome. You can really connect with his characters. He is an awesome writer and I encourage everyone to purchase his books and to also support all of the other African American literary geniuses out there.
Rating: Summary: I Can't Wait To Read This One! Review: I have recently started reading several books by up and coming African-American authors. As for Mr. Harris, he has definitely set the standard by which others can be judged. I look forward to reading his latest work; and for some additional dynamic Black writers, check out Lotita Files' "Getting to the Good Part," Joseph Green's "Pseudo Cool," and Eric Jerome Dickey's "Milk in My Coffee."
Rating: Summary: Romans 10:9-14 - confusion was not part of His plan. Review: I read Any way the wind blows & Not a day goes by before I read Abide with me. If you happen to come into the series of E. Lynn's books and want more of the scoop on Basil's problems with his past, Raymond's lifestyle, the true 'not-so-divafied' evil side of Yancey and they're mutual friends...then you should start with this one! It'll help you put 'two & two together' on the lives and backgrounds of all of the characters.
