Rating: Summary: Did not hold my attention Review: Reading "Abide with Me" was a little disappointing, in comparison with E.Lynn's other books. I think the main focus was suppose to be on Raymond's character, but Basil and Nicole kept my interest more. However, I felt as if Basil's lauguage was too foul; E.Lynn could have used other discriptive words to help express this character's emotions. Overall, the 350 page story-line was too-the-point; and easy to put down.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: E. Lynn Harris is a terrific writer; however, he should have left well enough alone. Abide With Me at times seemed to be wandering without a point. If you have never read Mr. Harris' books before don't start with Abide With Me because you may never read his other works which are not mediocre.
Rating: Summary: Fun, easy read but fairly predictable and not too deep Review: I enjoyed reading the book because the characters were fairly engaging and the plot somewhat interesting. The book however is not terribly complex and I didn't feel that I necessarily learned a lot from it because it was very predictable.
Rating: Summary: The best he has ever written Review: Many people say that this book his not his best work, but it is. This book is his finest creation yet!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: An eye opener with regards to alternative lifestyles! Review: This recent publication continues with the wonderful storyline with a few 'surprises' The beginning takes off, but slows to almost a crawl... However the last fifty or so pages was worth the wait!
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the Rest Review: Yeah I have to agree with other readers. This book did seem rushed at the end. And it ended with too many questions on what happened with peaches, Basil, Yancey, Nicole, Trent..we wanted to know more about what happpend. Does this mean it will be a sequel. Well it had its interesting scenes with Yancey and Nicole that was about it. I didnt like Basil character and I really could care less what happend to him to in this book atleast..anyway E. Lynn Harris your still an excellent writer keep them coming.peace
Rating: Summary: Abide With Me....very disappointing!!!! Review: I have read all of Harris' books and usually I can't put them down because they are so good. I end up reading them in a DAY! But this book took me about 2 weeks to read and I was in no hurry to finish it. Raymond's plot kind of left me hangin'! This book was ok at the beginning, but the ending seemed rushed and I felt as if there was no closure. THIS BOOK IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE OTHERS AND DON'T BASE YOUR LIKING FOR E. LYNN HARRIS STRICTLY ON THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT WASN'T HIS BEST. Some publisher probably rushed him into writing it. Oh yeah, without Kyle in the novels...things just aren't the same. Miss Kitty and Peaches cannot take the place of Kyle.
Rating: Summary: Good not great Review: It was nice reading about the old characters again, but most of the story was predictable and a little passe. Abide With Me has several good parts, but I think Harris' last novel was much better. Hopefully the next novel will be more up to par with what I've grown to expect
Rating: Summary: Definitely not E. Lynn's best work!! Review: I have read all of E. Lynn's books. Abide With Me is definitely not his best. However, it will be interesting to see where he goes with his next novel. I am sure the focus will be on Basil Henderson and Yancey Braxton. These two deserve each other. Ha!! Ha!!
Rating: Summary: A Great Try But Certainly Not E. Lynn's Best !!! Review: I hated ending this book, I felt as though I was saying goodbye to a good friend, and I wasn't sure when I would get a chance to visit with them again. Although I enjoy reading E. Lynn's novels, this one was less powerful than the others. What I mean by that is, the thing that I love about E. Lynn is his honesty. He gives us an honest view of a lifestyle that we may or may not be familiar with. Just As I Am & Invisible Life were so great because I believe that they were actual glimpses into E. Lynn's life(style). I am sure that "Kyle" really exists or has existed at some point in time. "Basil" I am sure is based on a real life person. This, honesty and realism, is what made the other two books so amazing. E. Lynn allowed us a view of his world. He made no excuses and didn't try to cover up anything. It was (for me) a beautiful experience. A life changing experience. It made me and alot of other people sensitive of our actions and reactions to Gay men.But Abide With Me lacked the conviction & power of the prior novels. My biggest gripe with the book was the mention of Kyle, it said the Kyle had succumb to Aids. Excuse me! If I read the book correctly and I know I did, he did not die from Aids. As the Creator of "Kyle" the author has to stay on top of things and remember what he wrote. My other questions are, explain Basil Henderson to me. What is going to happen to him? Are you saying that he and his last companion deserve each other? How did he feel being around Cade knowing what happened to him? (Did he feel a need to protect him? Or did he feel himself in his Uncle's shoes?) How did Yancey feel when Ava stood her up? Given the true relationship between Ava & Yancey I can't believe some of the explicit things that Yancey told her. This novel lacked the passion that vaulted E. Lynn's other stories into great novels. What happened to the loving relationship between Trent and Raymond? Is this what happens when love matures? There just didn't seem to be any love there. No real communication between them. There wasn't a sense of committment between them. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed reading this book. It just lacked that passion that I have come to enjoy reading in the author's prior books. I did however, enjoy hearing from Kyle once again. I thought that his visit was special. E. Lynn I just have two requests for you. 1. Give us a sequel to this novel. I need closure on that beautiful and cocky Basil Henderson. I want Raymond to be more sure of himself. At the end of this novel I wasn't sure of what he was going to do with his career, his life, his relationship with Trent or what he was going to do with Peaches. 2. Please come back to Cincinnati for another book signing. WE LOVE YOU HERE!!!!!
