Summary: What a GREAT BOOK!
Review: Their have been books on relationships, but this book (along with his others) actually deals with the problems many African Americans face in relationships. Mama Cee kept me laughing throughout the whole book

Summary: Harris' writing shows growth;wonderful,superb,entertaining..
Review: J. Lynn Harris has definitely won my heart.I have shared the existence of the three of his books to at least 10 people. They have all purchased the books and love them as well. I have have been inspired to start a bookclub as a result of reading these books. Mr. Harris, you have opened up our world, to truth and reality, especially us "holier-than-thou" ones. We should not be so judgemental. The books also helped to strengthen friendships. The only criticism I have is that the books had to end. I really miss all of the characters in the books. Mr. Harris, please don't wait too long before you write another one. May God Bless You, and keep up the good work. Excuse me but someone just walked into my office who wants to know more about J. Lynn Harris' books.

Summary: Absolutely Great!! Wonderfully Written.
Review: I thought And This Too Shall Pass was comparable to Just As I Am and Invisible Life in that it deals with the many relationships that adults deal with daily. It brought people from different worlds and sexualities together and taught them to deal with common issues. My grandmother even read it!

Summary: The Characters draw you in
Review: This is the first book by E Lynn Harris that I have read and it was actually better then I thought. I just finished reading a book called Passion Marks and saw this one pop up on a search. I truely enjoyed the character Zurich on his quest to find himself while being engulfed in the homophobic world around him. Then I felt a conection with Sean for some of his views on being black and gay and having faith. Most of all I liked the character Mama Cee, she really bought peace within the book...plus reminded me of some of my older family members. I think this was a very well written book and I'm now about to order Invisable life and start that series.

Summary: I almost didn't finish it
Review: I almost gave up on this book, but I wanted to keep going, because I knew that my favorite no good character Basil Henderson was going to arrive and make me love him/hate him at once. I did become engrossed with Zurich's situation. I'm starting to read book number 4 "If this world were mine". I'll be reviewing that one too.

Summary: An Okay Book
Review: "And This Too Shall Pass" is the story of professional football player Zurich Robinson. Everything seems to be going perfect for Zurich until he faces the wrath of a woman scorned. I am a big fan of ELH but this is not one of my favorite books. Don't get me wrong, ELH does an excellent job telling Zurich's story, it's just that Zurich's story isn't very interesting. I do recommend this book to other devoted ELH fans. But for people who haven't read any of ELH's books, don't start with this one.

Summary: Great literature? No. Good trash? Absolutely!
Review: After hearing a radio interview with the author about his books, I thought this would be a substantive work of literature. Not so. It's actually a 'trashy' romance novel -- which has its place, it's just not what I expected.

I was underwhelmed by the stereotypes piled on, one after another, until I just gave up. Very few of the characters were well developed, but the author certainly expended a lot of energy making sure the reader knew the exact shade of each one's skin tone. I was offended by the treatment of gays in the book -- I felt like I was reading something written in the 1960s or 1970s, not the late 1990s. The straight and gay sexual 'encounters' were flat, as if being described by someone who is asexual and just guessing at what goes on behind closed doors. I'm not quite sure I deciphered the plot. Was there one?

On the plus side, once I gave up on looking for a deep meaning, I enjoyed reading it. This is an easy read and requires not an iota of focus or concentration. Take it along on your next long road trip -- as long as someone else is doing the driving! :-)
