Rating: Summary: And this too should have passed Review: I wasn't feeling this one. I couldn't get into any of the characters. I assumed this book would answer some of the questions left from the other. Instead, it started with a whole group of new characters with what I felt, was an unbelievable storyline. Mia, who no one in their right mind could feel sorry for, or like for that matter, Tamela, who acts like a spoiled brat after finding the perfect guy, then Sean, who wasn't "man enough" to tell Zurich how he felt, instead "acting like a little girl." Then there was MamaCee and all of her faith. I just wasn't feeling it.The one thing I'm starting to feel is that Harris must have had a thing for his own version of Basil, because I can't understand how he, of all characters, continues to pop up, and every man that comes in contact with him finds him irresistable. GIVE ME A BREAK! I think this is Harris's feelings for someone in his past. I kept saying... Why Basil? What is up with that Harris?
Rating: Summary: A great book! Review: This was the first book I read by E. Lynn Harris and, for me, it was the best. I really enjoyed Zurich's character because his thoughts and, at times, confusion were all very believable. I have a few black gay friends who also struggled with their sexuality so, for me, this book allowed me to understand at least a LITTLE bit of what my friends had to go through. This is an excellent book to read regardless of whether you are straight or gay.
Rating: Summary: Can't Relate Review: Being a former athlete and a current sports enthusiast I dove right into this book anxious to read a storyline with characters I could relate to. The story was fast and easy reading until I read the first romantic scene...male and female. It didn't ring true. Something was missing. As I read further and it dawned on me what was happening I had to force myself to finish the book. Reading one mans lustfull description of another mans physique left me noxious. Mr. Harris did an excellent job of developing the characters and it is a good story but I'm sorry, men lusting men is just plain disgusting.
Rating: Summary: Caution, Agendas Ahead! Review: This is my first Harris novel and wasn't sure what I was in for. I really appreciated getting a black perspective on life and found the topic of homosexuality an interesting twist. However, the agendas that being gay is biblically acceptable as well as the idea that you can be convinced that you are gay are definitely visible. (If your twin brother is gay then you must be gay too. How just is it to feed on someone's self-doubt and insecurity?.) In real life Zurich would have been straight. I had to roll my eyes at the ending. No doubt it couldn't have ended any other way with the agendas presented. Read with caution if you are straight. Definitely a fairy-tale for gays. No pun intended.
Rating: Summary: Very deep and moving-kept me reading 24/7 until I finished Review: Harris is very powerful. I enjoyed all his works. I look forward to others that he may publish. When I was in the processing of moving to the DC area, I had overheard that he was in town for a book signing. I listened to the interview and had longed to meet him in person. I hope that I get the chance if he ever comes back to the area. Harris, keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS A TOTAL WAKE-UP CALL!! Review: THIS BOOK GIVES YOU A LOOK INSIDE THE OTHER WORLD. THIS IS A WORLD THAT MOST PEOPLE TRY TO BLOCK OUT OF THEIR LIVES. BY READING BOOKS LIKE THE ONES E. LYNN HARRIS WROTE, A PERSON MAY RECIEVE AN EMOTINAL AND SPIRITUAL BLESSING.
Rating: Summary: E. Lynn Harris is fabulous author Review: I have read all five of his works, some twice. I just love this author. When I first picked up the first book, it was enlightening on alot of aspects, my eyes were open to things I never knew. I would like to thank him for letting us in on facts some of us we have never known. I really loved Zurich he was a great character and Mia was really missed up. I give this book the thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ Review: This book was not at all what I expected. Even though the bases of the book was not about the football player being acused of a crime he didn't commit, it was very interesting. I read the book right before my best friend "came out of the closet" so it really gave me some insight on homosexuality, and gave me the strength to support my friend; which I would have anyway. This was a very good novel and I highly recommend this to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Sexy, funny, and refined Review: My favorite of Harris' work. He reaches a new height with this story. I loved the characters! This is a must read!
Rating: Summary: it flows easily and the characters were seemingly real Review: I thought the book introduced some important aspects in the reality of gay life and the thoughts that progress in the minds of the real people and how they deal with their problems, lifestyles, and the loves in thier lives. Mr. Harris keep the feelings real and made the reader much more intuned with the characters by being able the empathize.
