Summary: Gotta Get Me a Pair of Brown Shoes
Review: I loved this book. Espcially the story "Brown Shoes" by Rita Schiano. Maybe I'm partial because I thought her book "Sweet Bitter Love" was sexy, exciting, and a real page-turner.Read This book....Read Schiano's book, too!

Summary: Loved it!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. The stories were well-written and very varied: some were sweet, others funny, and one so sad I just broke down crying. These are the kind of stories you will re-read and want to share with friends. Overall, very good! I read the book soon after my first lesbian experience, so I found the subject matter particualrly interesting, but many of the stories are universal.

Summary: Not very erotic if that's what you're looking for
Review: If you're like me and you like lesbian erotica, you might think this would be a great book. i mean heck, it's real life events, not fiction. Well, for the most part I found many of the stories to be almost... clinical. A lot she-said-she-said and they were woefully short on the descriptive narrative. If you're looking for a real erotic read, look elsewhere. I never even finished the book.

Summary: Sweet yet sexy look at the first time.
Review: It reminded me of the first time I made love to my best friends sister. Although I cried reading a couple of stories, I found most of them to very exciting indeed. I would definitely suggest this book to "curious" women before they act upon their desires.

Summary: Lesbians, you will know what I am talking about!
Review: Lesbians, you will know what I am talking about. By counting all of my fingers and toes, I would still run out of digits to answer the question asked to me by straight women and men and my gay boy friends: "How do women do it? " How does one answer this question? Or does the question deserve an answer? It is up to the lesbian.

One way to answer this question is to refer the inquiring minds to the book, "Early Embraces." It is a collection of stories by women throughout the United States, describing their first-time experience with another woman. This collection will bring memories back to the experienced and allow the inexperienced a look into the passion that is ours to share with another women. It acknowledges our feelings, including the sometimes awkwardness and often joyfulness of the lesbian lifestyle.

Seattle's Nancy Slick wrote the following excerpt:

The magic of our night together still amazes me. We curled up on my bedroom floor and talked for a long time. Her soft pink lips made me hungry to kiss her, but being new to this captivating attraction, I resisted. We hovered in silence for a few still moments before she finally broke the spell with, "So, how about that swim?" I was both relieved and embattled by the "should have's" in my mind, wondering whether I had missed my chance. Floating with her on a raft in the pool in the soft, fragrant June night, I knew it had been better to wait.

Facing each other, we coasted through the cool water, silent. I still remember the way the moonlight gently cast its glow onto her soft skin. Our fingers entwined, we gazed with amazement into each other's deep green eyes. Our foreheads gently rested together for a moment. Then, looking up slowly, our noses touched lightly and our lips, impatient now, finally kissed. Oh, the touch of her lips on mine!

To read Nancy's story, Not to Need Her Too Much, and others, you will need to buy a copy of Early Embraces.

I believe this book deserves a rating of all 10 of my fingers and all 10 of my toes. It receives a full digit review!

Julie L. Shaffer was homegrown in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and she has been recently transplanted in Seattle via a John Deere tractor. Apparently, Julie has a collection of wonderful implements. That's farm implements, you know.

Summary: Reader from Lousiania January 1998. It took my breath away.
Review: My best friend gave me this book as a Christmas gift last Christmas. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. This is one of the best books on lesbian love. I loved the way the author had plenty of sexual stories, but she also had the emotions added right in. It was remarkable. I highly suggest it to anyone who loves to read about lesbian sex. Give it to a friend who may be having a tough time with the thought of being a lesbian. They will realize that the emotional ties a woman shares when they have sex with another woman in unbelievable. I truely loved this book.

Summary: Insipid and boring
Review: My girlfriend gave me this book as part of my Valentine's Day present and I must say we were both disappointed. I didn't think it could be possible to make such an interesting and charged topic so boring. The stories are poorly written and about as compelling as dishwater. I realize this is supposed to be "real" women talking about their first time lesbian experiences but a little editing of both copy and content should be in order. The writing is often times painfully awkward, the stories themselves mostly mundane with a few on the freakishly odd side.

Some of the reviewers described this book as erotica. It is far from it. And while these tales certainly don't have to be erotic to warrant a book they should at least be captivating.

The only reason I didn't give this book no stars is because if nothing else it gave these women a forum to speak their minds... however, I don't think that forum made for a particularly good read.

I'm glad I didn't read this book before my first time with a woman as it fails to capture and properly relay the beauty, the nervousness, the longing and all the other gamut of emotions that can accompany this experience.

Summary: GODDESS, HOW I LOVED THIS ONE!
Review: Reading this caused a resurgence of memories. I revisited my childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, recalling feelings, sensations, looks, stolen glances, yearnings, achings--and all, at the time, without knowledge of my being Lesbian. Oh, what a pleasant ride I shared with all the contributors of the book. I laughed, cried and sought more and more revelation. I questioned myself and my spouse, about our past, present and future selves.Today, I relive my early embraces! Thanks, Lindsey Elder, for the ride!

Summary: Tender stories .. but ..
Review: suspicious since most of the accounts, IF NOT ALL, describe their first tender lesbian scene with peers ..... That I would believe is highly unlikely that of the 53 stories not one would entail a spring autumn relationship ..... Also seems to me that the author must a a mainline to lesbians in some college since many of the stories are very much college experiences ...

In any case the on to two page stories were sweet and sensual real life type of experiences.... the book certainly delivers on what it promised which is more than I can say for a lot of the crap out there today....

Sure would have been nice to expand some of the stories into full chapters size and delve into the eroticism of the moment rather than just that introspection that must hit everyone experiencing their FIRST lesbian experience ...
