Summary: Where Were Books Like These When I Was Growing Up?
Review: Allowing women to tell their own experiences, in their own words, about their "early embraces" makes for a wonderful compilation. Many of the stories are so well-written and touching that they bear re-reading and caused me to buy this book for others, including a young woman I know who is working through the coming out process.

I only wish this book had been available when I was younger. I would have embraced it completely--and early, too!

Lindsey Elder has done a nice job compiling the stories, and I recommend this book to any young woman just coming out or any other woman who is interested in revisiting that heady, confusing time of her first experience with love and lust.

Summary: It helped me understand
Review: An excellent collection of stories that help us all understand our "first". For anyone who's struggling with heartbreak (how many "firsts" end) or curiosity or interested in nostalgic memories. The stories are varied, many times touching, many times you'll say "that was me!" and invariably it makes you feel better...above all they're REAL.

Summary: discovery
Review: Based on the previous reviews of the book I was expecting so much more but was very disappointed. The stories were not any diiferent than what you can find off the Net, so if you have a computer, save your money and just scan the net. Also, the stories all sounded the same - quite repetitive. If that's what I have to look forward to, I'll stay celibate.

Summary: life-changing...bitter-sweet
Review: Early Embraces made me smile, broke my heart, and changed my life.

It helped me look at early relationships in my life with understanding, acceptance, and sometimes with threads of regret...for opportunities not taken and so many moments lost.

I feel a special sistership with the contributing writers of the book and with women in lesbian relationships.

Thanks Amazon.com! I plan to order some of the books on this topic on your suggested reading list.

Summary: discovery
Review: I bought this book because I thought I might be a lesbian and was desperate to explore material on the issue. This book was just what I needed! Not only did it help me confirm my belief that I was a lesbian, it also gave me an idea of what to expect, sexually.

My reactions to this book helped me learn about myself. Before reading it, I was a confused teenager who could not decide whether I wanted to fall into bed with a guy or a girl. After reading this book, I have little to no desire to be intimate with a man. But a woman? Yes, please!

Summary: Tender, touching, and enlightening!!!!
Review: I have never so thoroughly enjoyed a book as I have truly enjoyed this one! So much so,that I 've recently purchased a copy of Early Embraces 2...You mean you didn't know????? Well, yes of course there is another Early Embraces released just recently....Early Embraces 2 !!!!. It is just as well written and twice as thick. The stories are a little longer, but still a great read. Early embraces was so powerful that I gave a copy to a friend of mine who is just now coming to terms with her own sexuality. I couldn't think of any greater gift to give her than ...herself. I hope she finds the book as life affirming as I did!!

Summary: Thank You and Review from an author
Review: I just love to read the wonderful comments and reviews from those who have read Early Embraces. My story in this collection was my first publication with Alyson. Writing it helped me to come to terms with my own sexuality and the bitter-sweet joy of my first love. Reading it let me know that I wasn't the only one that felt the same way.

When I read the book for the first time I felt honored and joyful to be included among these women with so much passion and so much hope. I was moved to feel along with them their love, their discoveries, their fear and even their sadness and regrets.

As a lesbian, I recommend this book not just as one of the authors, but as someone who needed to hear these stories of women discovering the love of other women. Thanks.

Summary: I loved this book
Review: I just received this book as a gift and I could not put it down. Those warm, heartfelt stories made me realize who I really am. A lesbian lifestyle is what I really want and its who I am. Any woman who reads this will realize that this is the best lifestyle for all women. The next step for me is breaking up with boyfriend.
