Summary: Lyrically Profound ; a Triumph!
Review: This is one of the finest books I have read in at least 2 years. Jeff, the protangoist and a modern Everyman, captures the essence of being a gay man in the 90's. Each of the major characters becons to the reader to learn more about them and their journey in the gay world. They are palpable, their passions and fears are honest, and their individual growth as people make them all the more real for the reader. I ENTHUSISATICALLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. It speaks to the Gay Everyman with a clairty that will haunt the reader! THIS BOOK IS A MUST! I can't wait to begin Mr. Mann's new novel.

Summary: Give it a shot
Review: This was one of the first books I read when I was searching for gay literature. What surprised me was how much I could identify with Jeff & Lloyd's relationship. Yes, ther are many cliches here, and at once it is easy to cast off this book as a nother example of gay stereotyping.

What I loved was that you get to hear the questions in Jeff's head about how he is living his life. What truly makes him happy, how he feels, and how he truly wants to be.

The story is moving, and for those gay men living in Boston or have lived there, the setting is going to seem aty once familiar and pleasant.

I applaud Mann for his book. I hope more people give it a chance and do not dismiss it is another stereotypical gay story when it is much more than that. It rings true!

Summary: Not as bad as I anticipated
Review: To keep their seven-year relationship alive, Jeff and Lloyd have opened themselves up to seeing other people. Their love for each other has always sustained them, until Lloyd announces he feels no passion for Jeff anymore. The previous summer, Jeff all but fell in love with a young man named Eduardo, and he still laments losing him. Jeff's best friend Javitz is dying of AIDS, and wants to return to Provincetown for his last days. Alternating from 1995 to the previous summer and back again, "The Men from the Boys" charts the love lives of these men as they navigate their own definitions of love and family and friends. William Mann includes some sensible commentary about an aspect of gay men's culture, and creates a breezy story around these thoughts. I found myself not liking the main character, Jeff, because he was so obnoxious and narcissistic though, but I was curious enough about where Mann was going with the story to finish the novel.

Summary: ALMOST THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ!!!
Review: whether gay or straight, this book is so stark and real you can't help but be affected by it. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: self -absorbed protagonist speaks volumes
Review: While some readers may be put off by Jeff, the self-absorbed protagonist of this beautifully written first novel, others will find it, like I did, to strike a cord. Jeff seems to want it all-his lover Lloyd, the younger trick who turns out to be more, Eduardo, and the nameless men he meets at rest stops and tea dances. That one side of him is balanced by his eagerness explore his options, his psyche and his world. He has genuine love for the three primary men in his life and that love shines through. His relationships with his other family, his mother and father and siblings, are very real and telling. A terrific book that says a great deal about today's Gay world and about emotions and relationships in general.
