Rating: Summary: Not Bad... Review: I have to admit that I stayed up all night reading "Any Way The Wind Blows." And it was a page turner, full of scandal and sex and adventures, but I wasn't feeling the characters--the fullness of their personalities. And the book felt like it was written in a rush. It had all this potential with the plot building up--Bart and Basil's mutual vengeance; Basil's bisexuality FINALLY getting revealed to the rest of the world; Yancey's career; Ava's involvement with Bart. None of this came to pass; this book was--as another reviewer pointed out--anticlimatic. And a lot of his books have been that way lately. It's good entertainment; unfortunately Harris' books are beginning to have less and less substance.
Rating: Summary: This book is the bomb! Review: I could not put this book down. A girlfriend called and recommended this, boy was I glad! Readers who enjoyed Not a Day Goes By, must read this sequel. Basil is up to his old tricks, but we find out his dark secret and also get exposed to a softer, more human side to this character. And Yancey, well her evolution takes a bit longer, but it is well worth every page turned in between. Alas, Ava returns with a vengance, stirring up more havoc than the law allows. I only hope E. Lynn Harris can bring her back in another book so she can get what she deserves. In any event this book is fantastic. You have to have this one in your collection. No doubt about it.
Rating: Summary: A Novel of Revenge and Growth Review: John Basil Henderson almost gave up his player card at the end of "Not A Day Goes By." In E Lynn Harris' latest effort "Any Way The Wind Blows," Basil is back with a vengeance. He is after any man or woman that he can possibly have. Basil is also contemplating whether he wants to take revenge on his ex-fiancee Yancy Harrington Braxton and her scheming mother Ava Braxton. All is going well for Basil until secrets and accusations begin to surface. Yancy Harrington Braxton, fresh from her break-up with Basil, which left her at the altar alone, she has once again reinvented herself. Now she is a rising 'Pop/R&B' and the song that's taking her there is very appropriately titled "Any Way The Wind Blows." The song details a woman's hurt when she discovers the man she loves in the arms of another man. When the song hits the airwaves everyone wants to know if this is why the marriage between Basil and Yancy never took place? Ava Braxton is also back and she is as scheming and as jealous as ever. Ava is out for blood; Basil's blood, and she will get it any way that she can, no matter how many people she has to hurt or use. Ava is also out to have a piece of Yancy's success, and she will try to get it at any cost. Bartholomew "Bart" Dunbar is a young, handsome openly gay man who wants to find love, and once he finds it he will do anything to keep it. Bart is out for one person, himself. "Any Way The Wind Blows" is a novel of revenge and growth. E. Lynn Harris has once again grabbed you and brought you into the middle of the story. On the RAW scale this book is a 5. Rating: Summary: Got me to thinking Review: Awhile ago, i promised i would never read another E. Lynn Harris novel, due to the fact that all the homosexual sex scences were more that i wanted to experience. But after searching the library for so long, and finding nothing i decided to try this. And this was a wonderful book! The characters are developed and have you thinking, "don't i know someone like this" and things focused on in this book are things i'm pretty sure are happening all around. though some things could have been more in depth, like the relationship btw. Basil and Bart. I still overall give it a high rating.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining and well-written Review: I enjoyed this book, unusual for me since I found so many of the characters unlikeable. It looks like it might be the end of the Basil/Yancey franchise (I'm not so sure about Ava.) If that's true it's right on time. I do feel that Yancey's newfound love seemed a little forced, but I hope the change in her ways is permanent. While I don't think I'd want to read another book with them as the main characters, I'd love it if the author did an update on them in a future book so I know how things worked out.
Rating: Summary: Basil Basil Basil... not just a spice Review: Another well written story from the pen of E. Lynn Harris. Has Basil Henderson finally reached his 'turning' point so to speak? Is the birth of his daughter going to make him realize that hes a mans man, a womans man, [or]bisexual ...? I just wonder if the issue should be 'whether Basil can decide if he wants a relationship with a man or a woman OR whether he can be faithful to either one.
Rating: Summary: Getting Better Each Time! Review: I have loved all of E's books from the start. I can't say this was the best, but it was just as entertaining as all the others. This time the instigators got what they deserved and some new characters were introduced which made it a little more interesting. The book was the perfect length and it didn't drag at all! I was glad that Basil and Yancey learned some valuable lessons together and they both had good endings. Now, someone needs to give that Ava a little chat or give her what she has been dishing out! What I liked most was that book wasn't totally predictable and the characters were real and believeable. E. Lynn Harris has a fan for life!
Rating: Summary: Too Soapy Review: Starts out running, with the story breezing along - a lot of sass and sex. Then it hits a wall. Every male character fits the exact same description, like they were poured from a mold. Stilted dialogue that sounds like a poorly written soap opera with huge declaritive statements that grate on the ear. Then everything is wrapped up in a preachy little bow, very unsatisfying.
Rating: Summary: ANY WAY THE WIND BLOWS Review: THE BOOK WAS EXCELLENT. CAN WE NOW GET AVA.
Rating: Summary: Time for Basil to retire!!!!! Review: I am a number one E. Lynn fan, I am in the store the day all of his books are released, however, this one was OK it was not one my favorites. Basil is getting old its time for some new characters. However, E. Lynn is still one of my favorite authors and I am looking forward for the next release.
