Rating: Summary: well worth the wait Review: As the reader from Newport News points out, this book far outgrows the conventions of the Uber genre, even if our main protagonists are a gorgeous, superbly athletic larger-than-life blue-eyed brunette, and a vivacious, intuitive, inquisitive green-eyed blonde. Ryan's figures have substance, as does the professional world (well, worlds, since Kaz is a high-level competitive golfer, as well as a powerhouse TV newsroom manager) they inhabit. The prose is graceful, lean, restrained, and especially sensitive in registering the emotional give-and-take between the sexy (but troubled) heroines. The tug of attraction between them, and their physical intimacy are very delicately handled, as is the wit with which they address the ironies of their situation. Ryan's skills are comparable to Melissa Good's but she avoids both cuteness and melodrama in developing her narrative of the heart.
Rating: Summary: Best of the genre Review: Don't let the fact that this book is another in the Xena genre put you off. Unlike so many of those books, you're not constantly reminded of the physical comparison and these people seem more true to life. They have to overcome real problems and they do it in a realistic manner, not everything comes out in their favor. Kaz is a particularly interesting character. Not everyone gets to the age of 30 and knows everything about life, terribly realistic. You can feel for Chris also as she tries to figure out this complex woman and has to readjust her own perceptions and behaviors to a woman who takes many things at face value because she has no other point of reference. My only complaint is that the type should have been a little bigger, but part of that is because I read it in one night, so it was a little hard on the eyes. Otherwise, this is a terrific book.
Rating: Summary: One of the best lesbian stories I've read in months Review: I finished the book over a weekend. It was very entertaining and gave me some interesting insight into the world of news broadcasting and golf. While I tend to question story lines that center around boss and subordinate business relationships turning into romance, Maggie Ryan does a good job of balancing the issues. The story line and character development is very good, I found myself liking Kaz and Chris alot, as well as a few of their friends. I recommend "The Deal" to anyone who likes the Xena fan fiction genre.

Rating: Summary: Much better than I expected Review: I picked this book up used and figured it would be an OK read. Was I pleasantly surprised! The plot is well developed and realistic. The characters were belivable and likeable. And the humor in the book had me laughing out loud at times. My one complaint is that it was a little difficult at first to remember who all the characters were. All in all though, this book was amazing and I would love to find more by this author.
Rating: Summary: One of the best lesbian stories I've read in months Review: I really enjoyed this book. The working together part actually interested me, as my partner and I worked together for 10 years, the politics are really there....What I really like was the way Ms. Ryan writes. She keeps the story going, and it's also steamy enough to really keep me reading. Her style reminds me of one of my favorite lesbian authors, who I think is underrated, Peggy Herring. If you liked this book check out To Have and To Hold or A Moments Indiscretion by Peggy...
Rating: Summary: Very good read Review: The story is very good, it holds your interest from the very first page. The characters are fun and seem real even if they get themselves into some unusual predicaments-- the author makes it work. This is a fun book that leave you wanting to know more.
Rating: Summary: Great Storytelling!! Review: This book a has a fantastic hook. I started out reading it as a diversion on a slow weekend and ended up with it nearly anatomically attached to my hand for the few days it took me to finish it. The characters are intriguing, having grown far beyond whatever uber-Xena inspiration may have birthed them. Kaz and Chris are fascinating -- and let me emphasize this -- new and better renditons in this storyline. The book also accomplishes the difficult feat of achieving a backdrop of suprising realism. You feel like you know these people, even the supporting characters. I really liked this book. I want the sequel!!
Rating: Summary: I happen to like Xena uber, thank you very much. Review: Xena online fanfic, esp. of the "uber" or 'real world' variety featuring incarnations of our heroines (based on the characterizations and physical attributes of the actresses who brought Xena and Gabrielle to life) has totally revitalized lesbian romantic literature and the feminist press publishing business. Thank the goddess for it. This happens to be one of the best of the lot because the author is a superb writer and storyteller. The newsroom milieu, the golf world milieu and the lesbian love story (the guarded, hardass Xena uber newsroom boss falls for her necessarily closeted on air talent, the accident prone, adorable Gab uber tv reporter) all ring very true. I just hope she gets around to finishing the sequel which is also posted online.
