Rating: Summary: Disappointing. Review: I have to admit that I perhaps anticipated too much from this book. I enjoy Mr. Phillips' work, but there seemed to be a redundancy in this offering. His work is playful, and suggestive in a very "innocent" way, however, I am of the opinion that much more could have been done with this title.
Rating: Summary: Joe Phillips comics all in one place! Review: This collects (as far as I know) every Joe Phillips comic strip in print. I don't buy XY Magazine anymore, so I dunno, he may've done more since this was released in Spring of this year. It falls short of five stars for a couple reasons. First of all, Joe lets on in the introduction that he and a few artist friends of his had to re-do some of the art due to loss of the originals. It's also implied that one or two of the scripts were cleaned up for this release. So why the numerous errors in spelling, grammar, and sentence structure? This isn't a huge deal. I mean let's be honest, most of us will be buying this more for Joe's art than his writing. Sloppy writing and lack of proper editing just bother me a bit. Ah well, Joe's imagination is fertile and he's strong in the humor department (I hope this is coming off as constructive criticism). Second of all, some new material may've been nice. Just a two-pager or something, I'm not asking for much. I can't complain about the lack of new content too much though, the book's fairly priced so you get your money's worth. And unless I'm not remembering right, I don't think I've seen the drawings on the front and back inside covers, those Joe Boys might be new.Very Good first effort, hope to see more!
