Summary: Ill-written, but revelatory of an intriguing demi-monde.
Review: I read this book on the recommendation of a black co-worker who found it eye-opening. I thought it very sad. The main character seems to have no understanding of the forces driving his life and only seems to awaken from his self-centered focus at the end, when another character dies, a victim of the thoughtlessness all around them. Even then, there is little thought for where his life is leading the main character. Instead, the novel is just a series of unimportant events over the years, mostly described in terms that are materialistic and on the surface, of interest only because so different from the lives of most people. A disappointing experience.

Summary: This book makes women think!
Review: E. Lynn Harris is one of the best authors I have read. He really know how to hook you to a story line. Even though he may have a 'soap opera' writing style, it works! This book really made me realize that many men are bisexual and that they don't bother to inform either partner. I will certainly be more aware of the activities the men in my life particpate in. I am not anti-gay, I just think no matter what you sexual orientation is, you should be monogomous. It is not okay for bisexuals to have 'a taste of' both.

Summary: An real eye opener for those of us whom aren't homosexual
Review: This book was a real eye opener for me, as a heterosexual female it made rethink all of my previous relationships and look at future ones to come with a new cautiousness. I'm currently reading this for my book club so far it's the most interesting book we've had to read so far. I strongly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good read. Good from beginning to end. I look forward to reading the rest of Harris' books.

Summary: Very touching and thought provoking
Review: Invisible life really touched me in a special way. Never before have I read a book written with so much feeling and depth. It was as though the characters were there - sharing with you in person their personal experiences. E. Lynn Harris put his heart and soul into this novel, and one could readily pick up on this point as soon as the first lines were read. Raymond especially touched me in this novel. His pain and confusion of being a successful black gay man in this day and age was deeply felt by the reader. I commend E. Lynn Harris for coming out with this superb novel. I look forward to reading the sequel Just As I Am.

Summary: EXCITING, HEARTFELT, TRIUMPHANT, & CLIFF-HANGING
Review: First and foremost I want to commend E. Lynn Harris. You have done a great job in all of your works. I have read Invisible Life and Just As I Am and I loved them both. Invisible Life opened my eyes up to a new world. It made me restructure my life and it should me how to live my life to the fullest. I thank you for entertaining us and for making us want more. We love you and please, keep on writing.

Summary: OUTSTANDING, STRONG, NEEDED, HELPFUL
Review: Iread this book about four years ago and it still makes me think about the prejudices that used to plague my mind. I was completely taken in by the characters and the colorful way that this story was told. I forgot this book ws about gay men and began to see the love and pain as not having a gender. I hope that a movie deal will come out of this and the rest of E. Lynn Harris' great novels.

Summary: He writes like Keanu Reeves acts
Review: The start of something aweful. please please get beyond what he writes about and demand the topic be expored by someone who can write. who can explore with vivid prose not a string of tired, simplistic cliches. The subject is important and the characters help many to legitimize adn realize they are not alone, but the messages and voices are speech impaired.

Summary: OUTSTANDING, SUPERB, HUMOROUS, SAD, THOUGHT PROVOKING!
Review: I read Invisible Life about two months ago and since then I have been on a mission to read the others as soon as I could. I loved all four. Although the first two were the only sequels I enjoyed the way favorite (and not so favorite) characters were in all four novels. Although I don't normally purchase hard back books I will be waiting in line for the next book. Keep up the good work and thank you. I'd love to hear from other people who enjoy reading works by African American authors.

Summary: The book was the bomb
Review: This book was an eye opener for helping others to see the struggles that Gay or bisexual people have to endure because of their sexuality. I really enjoyed this book. It was hard to put down. Many nights I fell asleep reading the book.

Summary: A good read, but some cant read it....
Review: This is a good read, but some folks cant really deal with the subject matter. So you will feel enlightened or mad. Enlightened if you wanted to understand something about life as a black AND gay male. Mad if you are wanting gays to disappear, esp black gays. Harris shows a number scenes that will ring true to southern gays and lesbians of ANY color. But there are some things in the book deal directly with black gayness. Well done. Characters could be stronger. Esp the girlfriend. 90% of the comments will strongly reflect the readers background because the book treats this rather charged subject.
