Rating: Summary: TASTEY TRUE TO LIFE, AND JUST REAL ENOUGH TO FEEL!!! Review: THIS BOOK IS A SIGNIFICENT ACCOUNT OF THE BLACK GAY AND BISEXUAL EXPERIENCE. Mr Harris has defeated the stereotypes that society has placed apon the head of the those who chose to be homosexual. Once again as with invisible life he has touched that part of my manhood that was afraid to feel, and let those emotions come pouring out. This book will leave you asking when will the main character will ever get peace? A question that we often find ourselves wondering... KUDOS TO E.LYNN HARRIS*****
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT Review: The book is great. The way Harris describes the characters, you feel like you actually know them. You must read "Invisible Life" first and then "Just As I Am." When you stop reading for a second, your mind gets to wandering what is going to happen next.
Rating: Summary: this was an excellent book that kept you wanting more! Review: This was an outstanding piece of work by E.Lynn Harris! While reading the book, you felt as though you personally knew the characters. It was almost as if you could actually see the character while sitting off in the back ground!! This book also had an emotional effect on the reader. This book kept you wanting more!! I can't wait to read the last two. I hope more books are in the making!!!!
Rating: Summary: An eye-opener Review: Just like Invisible Life, this book's most redeeming quality is its upfront look at homosexuality and the effect it has on not only the individual, but everyone around him (or her). And for a middle-class white mommy, Harris' books have been my personal education on the unique challenges faced by black homosexuals. However, the part I enjoyed most about the book was everything and anything to do with Kyle, best friend to main characters Raymond and Nicole. Kyle's character -- with his biting yet incredibly insightful and honest comments -- made the book fun to read. Quite often I felt for him and his mother more than I did the two main characters! However, in the end I was excited for Raymond and Nicole and was overcome with an almost "giddyness" as I drank in the romance and warm friendships portrayed in the book. It was a slow start (although not quite as slow as Invisible Life), but Harris wrapped me up in his story again for an enjoyable reading experience!!
Rating: Summary: This book was a thoughtprovoking interesting type of fiction Review: I've never read such an interesting book before. It made me realize how much I take my bestfriend for granted. I loved Raymond because he was so romantic even though he was gay. Basil was an interesting character just being himself. Nicole and Delanany was an unique type of friendship that no one would be able to understand. I felt a little sorry for Nicole because she was faced with everyone's sexually and she didn't know what to think about herself or everyone else. Now last but not least, my favorite character with all the spunk and energy that some homosexuals will probably never have, Kyle. He was a trip from the begining to the end.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK THAT DEALS WITH AFRICAN AMERICAN MIDDLE CLASS GAY Review: GREAT BOOK....I'D TO SEE E LYNN HARRIS WRITE A BOOK WHERE BASIL HENDERSON IS THE MAIN CHARACTER...I'M A GAY WOMAN, BUT I CAN CERTAINLY RELATE TO THE CHALLENGES HE FACES...MIA
Rating: Summary: Vivid Characters Review: I bought "If This World Were Mine" after hearing Mr. Harris on a radio interview. While talking with a cousin about the book, she reprimanded me for reading the series out of order (I didn't know!!)and loaned me "Just As I Am". Of course now I am torn between re-reading "If This World Were Mine" so that I can connect the characters in the two books or just starting from the beginning and reading the entire series in order. I try to vary my reading material and had said I would wait to read his other books but I might just have to go on an E.Lynn Harris reading binge and get it out of my system.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I just read all four books of E. Lynn Harris outstanding work. A small group from CT started our own book club to discuss these books. We did not read them in order because as I was reading "Just as I Am", I discussed the others. We as a group would one day like to send in a review or comments. These books are very educational.
Rating: Summary: TIE ME UP AND MAKE ME READ IT AGAIN! Review: Mr. Harris you have kept me awake at night for the second time. I loved the way your book brings the story of Raymond to life in full living color. Keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: i loved it! Review: i laughed, and cried. This book as well as the first novel was outstanding. As a matter of fact..it made me look at my life...and had me wondering about myself and my sexuality. And if i can do like Raymond did...and come out of my shell...and have everyone except me JUST AS I AM. I loved Raymond...he was a strong black man, I fell in love with Kyle from the begining because he was happy with himself JUST AS HE WAS... This is truly an outstanding book, and is strongly recommended to people who are trying to come out of the closet. Maybe it will provide encouragement.
