Summary: Mmmmmmmmmmmm....BLE 2003!
Review: I just got the "hot off the presses" (so to speak) version of this annual; as always, it's an eclectic bag of tricks. I'm sorry, I just can't review without making BAD puns.

I particularly liked Carol Rosenfeld's "Art History 101" set (mostly) in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with deeper levels about the roles people play to get other people to like them.

Other topics covered are grrls who pack and pass (as boys), one transgender story, a historical erotic tale (with Queen Elizabeth I no less!) and a couple of hot sci-fi reads.

This year's guest editor is Cheryl Clarke, and she does a great intro, along with series editor Tristan Taormino, who has discovered some hidden treasures that will wear well.

Summary: Not the best of lesbian erotica
Review: I was looking forward to reading this book from cover to cover in one sitting but it was impossible to do. This book is certainly not the "best" of lesbian erotica. I would suggest that the editors cast a wider net than they have done to see what they catch. The experience and focus were too narrow, story structures too hackneyed, definitely not new. There were two stories that were exceptions that saves my rating from dropping to zero. It was a disappointing collection. The editors must try to step out more often into the world to see what and where truly innovative writing is happening and bring it to us.

Summary: If you are a lesbian with gender issues...
Review: I was very disappointed with this book. Patrick Califa-Rice should have chosen a more specific title for this book, such as "lesbians who don't like to read about lesbians and want their girlfriends to be men". A majority of the short stories deal with gender issues, and gender play in sex which is too broadly described as being aimed toward lesbians.

Summary: Not my idea of erotica
Review: I would say this book is more for the "butch" / "femme" role playing lesbian. It portrays every straight MALE's ideas of lesbians. Maybe i just wasn't prepared for this book. if you're about to buy this book hoping to fluff up your love life, forget it.

Summary: 2004 best set yet!
Review: Just got my copy of Best Lesbian Erotica 2004.
Another great set of hot and steamy stories.I have been a long time fan of Michelle Tea, and I feel her unique perspective was felt in the choices for this year's book.
I'm almost done and I think it is going to be my favorite yet!
I definitely recommend this book to all avid readers and their libidos...

Summary: Garbage?
Review: Somebody from San Francisco said that? Shanme! LOL! Not only was that comment NOT a review, it could be considered a "spiteful remark" as well.

Summary: So erotica!
Review: This book was the best book that I have ever read! Second to, "The Old Man and The Sea." I found it very erotifying. The pictures are fantastic, so are the articles. They are chalk full of sexxy details..and naughty secrets! It has succeeded to fulfill my cravings!

Summary: A little something for everyone
Review: This installment of BLE, as usual, has a tremendous variety of stories in all flavors, from vanilla (Bethany Harvey's sweet-but-hot "Breathing Water") to death-by-chocolate (Peggy Munson's set of short-shorts "Blowing Across America") to wild-and-crazy flavors I don't even know names for (the animal-fetish "A Bushy Tale" by Jean Roberta). Because of the wide variety, any given reader will probably find a few stories that leave them cold, but even the ones that don't turn you on are worth reading; they're interesting, engaging, and sometimes even funny.
