Summary: Totally agree with "Reality, USA" reviewer
Review: this is one of Kallmaker's best; I wouldn't put it up there with "literature for the ages," but it is a very good, very well-written romance--all the more achingly effective BECAUSE it takes the principal characters so long to really start communicating. We may get frustrated for them, but I, for one, never found myself regretting Bree's winding journey back home--and it is Bree's story. I thought Kallmaker did a remarkable job of evoking the strange blend of otherworldliness, vulnerability, toughness, and, yes, intellectual passion in a musical prodigy. I've been watching classical musicians perform for over 30 years, and Bree's characterization as consumed by her calling absolutely rings true. Her "immaturity" is ocupational--she's also remarkably sweet, and unwilling to blame others (including those who hurt her without provocation) for her problems. This book extends Kallmaker's already impressive range.

Summary: Maybe next time
Review: Well don't bother reading the back of the book for what this book is actually about. I gave this story 3 stars because the writing is what you expect from Karin Kallmaker, even if the story is not. If you're looking for the traditional romance then Maybe next time is probably not for you. Instead try one of KK's other novels.

I actually found this book incredibly depressing in a lot of places.

Summary: Excellent Read!
Review: Well, it certainly kept me reading. These were not likeable people. I think too much is made over Bree's alleged self-centerness. She was not welcomed anywhere after her mother died. Her father seemed to be oblivious and her step mother did not welcome her. As soon as he died, she got rid of her only after getting rid of her violin. Jory was not welcoming either. She resented Bree's presence in her house & family. She made that quite clear. And she never even pretended to hide her resentment of the violin and even said how she hated it. I truly detest wishy-washy people. The come-here, go-away act got tired real fast. How do you come to tell someone you've decided to be with them while first saying that you are married (to someone else) & pregnant? So Bree is the heavy because she went off behind that? I think Bree gets the short end in the book & in most of the reviews because she is the easier target. But she never really hid anything about her true feelings for Jory. Jory, on the other hand, gets to act all superior for most of the book & the end. But it was a good read, which is pretty much what you ask of an author.

Summary: Heartbreakingly Romantic!
Review: What do you do when you grow up, in your adopted family, with the love of your life and they could care less? One woman, a child prodigy and now world famous violinist has pondered that question throughout her life. Never lacking for company, she nevertheless is always left with a feeling of "wanting". Who is it that she really wants - the woman she could never have or the woman in a long-term relationship? Sidelined by an injury, the violinist tries to figure out the answer to the question. Which woman does she truly love? Which woman would love her back? Will her decision place a long-term relationship in jeopardy? If she doesn't recover from her injury, how will that affect her future and will anyone want HER?

Karin Kallmaker is a truly talented writer who continues to treat the reader to wonderful tales of women as they travel the journey of life, love and romance.
